People only look at steam numbers but forget all other platforms numbers. Dbd isn’t dying at all.
26 -
If that number is accurate, that would mean that, at it's peak, Steam players accounted for 5% of DbD's playerbase.
I know they GAVE THE GAME AWAY FOR FREE for a good while there, but that seems a bit off to me. Hey, if they're getting 2 million people playing it across all platforms, good for them.
8 -
Yep agreed.
8 -
They've had so many free weekends, 50 million players total doesn't surprise me-- especially with all the other platforms.
Two million logins a day though.. that's impressive.
10 -
Indeed it is.
1 -
If DbD seriously have 2 millions login daily, this game is sooooo far from dying. So this mean Steam is small part of full community?
5 -
People really seem to forget how easily login numbers are manipulated along with how many free accounts the game has.
Remember its still is a free game on game pass and the whole free weekends/login rewards/epic games fiasco makes logins an unreliable metric.
Plus to further prove the point login bonuses one person can be counted multiple times for claiming the rewards on various systems counts as a new login for each one.
So just because 2 million login doesn't mean anywhere 2 million play.
9 -
People who say its dying secretly want the game to die.
Channel your anger somewhere else and stop playing.
11 -
Yep game is also on xbox game pass which has a shitload of subscribers

Gonna play devil's advocate here. Where's the proof that 2 million people are logging in daily? All the article says is that BHVR 2 million daily logins, but there's no image, stat tracker or a link of any kind in the article to actually prove that number is real. Also, does is this the number with or without the free weekends they've done. Is it possible that many people login daily? Absolutely. But we can't just take BHVR's word at face value.
7 -
I can agree somewhat as to what you're saying, but if 2 million logins per day is true, there's no way to manipulate that unless you did free logins for an entire month. Regardless that's Impressive.

1. That's not what "playing devil's advocate is" that's just being untrusting.
2. As much proof was given as they have on kill rates or anything else, a picture doesn't make the data more accurate, after all.
3. Unlike the kill rates and other internal metrics, number of players is something they would have to show to get financing, certain tax incentives, show prospective license holders to gain more licensed characters, and also to keep shareholders happy. To put it simply, it's the worst thing they could pick to lie about, as it's literally the only metric they can be sued for lying about.
4 -
I...hate to tell you this, but that number isn't really indicative of the health of the game.
All that '50 million' means is that, at some point in time, 50 million (and that number sounds...prima facie absurd, but let's assume it's correct) people gave the game a try.
It doesn't speak to how many stuck around.
2 -
The point isn't 50 million, we knew they'd hit that, but 2 million active logins a day that completely shuts down all the game is dying posts. If true of course.
2 -
With the content every 3 months it wont die. They fix the grind and they can grow even more. Cant imagine many new players stick around these days.
1 -
There's something...a bit sus about that article, looking a bit deeper.
None of the bigger gaming sites are reporting on it, and the handful that are, are all obscure clickbait/tagfarm sites and most have the exact same article copy+pasted verbatim, or very slight variations on it.
What is interesting is that some sites parse this as 'up to 2 million', which implies that this was the absolute peak not an every day occurrence.
Without seeing the alleged email, there's no way to tell what's going on here.
3 -
Yup 100%
However, they can present the data so that number of logins can show better numbers than active users.
For example, rn there's a daily login of 70k BP and shards. I can't play everyday due to real life, but logging in and getting 2 matches worth of BP takes a few seconds.
My usual queue does vary, but at worst is always relatively quick with crossplay on (I play on Switch). My killer queues time is similar to my Splatoon 2 queue time for regular matches (8 players). Splatoon 2 (or even 1 ftm) is still really active and both games came out 5 years ago
1 -
Splatoon is probably the best Nintendo mp game to compare it to, I play a lot as well, and it's crazy how active that game still is.
1 -
I thought it was Sus at first, but it seems legit, it could be fake, who knows, but for him to have an exact employee number information on the dates of the board game kinda made me believe he knows somewhat what's going on. Hopefully Behavior officially confirms if the Article was written with good intentions or fake news.

Can I get some links to the copy/pasted articles?
I'd like to read them.

Yeah it's interesting though. Splatoon game purchases almost equalled switch purchases in Japan. This meant almost every Switch user in Japan played Splatoon 2.
The fact that it's a single platform system vs. DBD shows that these type of endless multiplayer games can survive. There's no official end game and there are different weapon loadouts toix and match certain games
Granted the grind is so much better on Splatoon 2. One idea that DBD could adapt from Splatoon 2 is to "reroll" bloodwebs. Spend 5k BP to reroll bloodwebs.
Once Splatoon 3 drops I foresee a significant drop in my DBD playtime. I wonder if this will apply to other Switch players since there is a significant crossover.

I'm...reluctant, as some of these sites feel a bit unsafe. Take a sentence from the article and paste it into Google and you'll see what I mean.
I'm not sure. My guess is that the 'up to' phrasing is the key aspect here.
0 -
When I start to worry, is when I start seeing the same people in my lobbies. And it is happening more now then ever before.
2 -
I mean, it's possible you've reached an MMR only a few players have, and maybe that's why you're seeing the same people.
1 -
Yeah, I see what you're saying. I did this myself on google, something does feel off, but I'm not shocked if it's been ripped from the Gamepur writer, possibly some sites steal others articles all the time. I sent this post off to a Mod just incase for confirmation that it's true or false; we'll know soon. I don't want to be posting anything fake so I'm waiting on confirmation.

I did.
"The landmark was reached recently as Dead by Daylight is now available on a wide selection of platforms, including the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), and even Google Stadia. Behavior Interactive also confirmed that Dead by Daylight has up to two million players logging in every day."

Type in "Dead by Daylight 50 Million Players"
You'll see 7 or 8 articles pop up.

Pretty easy solution to this:
The articles all explicitly state that this information came directly from Behavior.
As such, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for clarification to avoid possible misinformation.
@MandyTalk or a different mod - If you could clarify? Sorry for the tag, but it is completely related to information that is stated to come directly from BHVR.
1 -
I messaged her already waiting for confirmation as well. If it's false though I hope Behavior seeks to have the article removed because claiming information directly from a company is bad for their Image if untrue.
1 -
Awesome :D
0 -
Does it go that low? 😆 🤣
0 -
😂lmao
1 -
lmfao yeah 50 million players but how many of those 50 million still play the game?
That seems like a exagerated big number to make it seems like wow,so many players in this game.
0 -
ladies and gentlemen this is why we keep crossplay on
1 -
50 Million players isn't the point. It's the 2 Million Logins per day. It's easy to get 50 million with free weekends.
0 -
2 million over all platforms including mobile, also just because someone says there's 2 million active logins everyday does not mean its true, some people just log in but dont play also
0 -
And you're right to some extent but that's impressive non the less and would mean the game is far from dying if true waiting on Behavior to confirm or deny.
0 -
Haters are gonna hate. It's what they do.
0 -
If the information is genuine it's a good thing. That many people playing means more money and hopefully better patches.
However, id like to point out that a large player basis does not mean the game is healthy. Dbd has always had a retention problem. Movies that turned out to be complete flops and hated by the audience still managed to make a profit opening weekend. Superman vs batman, last jedi, captain marvel. Just because they made a chunk of money quickly doesnt mean they were successful in the long run.
2 -
'Up to'.
That's an important qualifier.
This could simply mean that, at the absolute peak, 2m players logged in. Probably during the massive anniversary spike last year.
2 -
Just FYI the 40 million and 2 million numbers are from a footnote in the Behaviour press release about the Sadako DLC. How accurate or old that blurb is I have no idea but that’s where it’s coming from.
About Dead by Daylight
Created by Behaviour Interactive, Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer action horror game of hide and seek, set in a dark fantasy and drawing from all corners of horror, where each match is a different experience. Dead by Daylight boasts more than 48 million players both globally and across all platforms. On any given day, up to 2 million players step into the Fog, whether on PC, console, or mobile. Since its release in 2016, the game has become a place where cult classic horror survives and thrives, having welcomed legends from TV, movies, and video games. 1 -
I think that means Steam players make up like 5% of the total playerbase.
That seems a little suspicious.
3 -
Good call out. Wondering if this is a rip off from the official one now.
1 -
There's a difference between loggin in and playing. I log in for free bloodpoints, but i dont play at all. I think alot of ppl do the same
0 -
If there's 50k people on at max peak during the day, that means there are tens of thousands of people dropping in/out on an hourly basis...It's obviously not the same people logged in consistently.
Console probably still outweighs them, though, as it has been given away on XBL, Game Pass, PS+, etc...
EGS is probably the lowest of the two (despite the giveaway), given the brief window it was available for free.
0 -
I don't think DBD was ever a Games With Gold game but it was given out for free on PS4.
0 -
Probably right!
I may have confused it with an XBL free weekend or something.
0 -
This and also does it count UNIQUE logins or do ppl who's game crash or simply restart also count towards the 2 million?
0 -
I don't think they want it to die. I think they love the game but it isn't going in the direction that they want, so they're just trying to fear monger Behaviour into reconsidering some of their decisions. Otherwise, if they wanted it to die, why stick around?
0 -
Exactly, dbd will die when people will stop complaining because they dont care anymore.
They day they wont have a reaction anymore is when a game dies.
