Wow, the Dead by Daylight subreddit banned FNAF as a topic due to the Scott Hawthorn controversy
I woke up this morning to check on r/deadbydaylight and I'm met with this message on the top page.

what controversy?

Apparently wrong think.

Scott donated to people who are anti-lgbtq
Which wasn't a surprise seeing as he was and is religious & conservative, two things which usually go hand in hand when it comes to being anti-lgbtq. Yes, he might not be explicitly anti-lgbtq himself, but he still gave money to someone who is, because of his beliefs.

That's great um

I did some googling and the only thing I found was he donated to Trump and Mitch McConnell's campaign and was possibly an islamaphobe.

you are begging to get this thread closed

Donating money to individuals with power/organisations is quite different to having "wrong think" opinions/beliefs. Bit of a stretch of the concept.
4 -
Guess FNAF is off the table :D
4 -
I mean... who cares.
People like his games not the person who makes them.
MJ can be called a predator the next hundred years, but his music is still great.

FNAF went the way of Jeepers Creepers it looks like.
2 -
Lol what are they gonna do if FNAF actually gets added though?
2 -
OMG. IT MUST MEAN IT'S REALLY COMING TO THE GAME. (FNAF fans)
3 -
Same concept applies to HP Lovecraft. People love his work, but his political views were considered racist even for his day
8 -
My point exactly.
Trust me, looking at Blizzard, Riot and many other AAA companies, I can assure you that most of the people who make great games are bigots.
6 -
He’s a republican.
in my opinion people really blew it out of proportion
10 -
Yikes, well that means no more FNAF in Dead by Daylight, since BHVR supports LGBTQ+

Cancel culture really shines brightly in 2022 doesn't it? Cancelling anybody's opinions just becuz they disagree.
The dude has all the rights to believe LGBT is wrong. The same way I believe HE'S wrong. But no.... people don't want public discourse anymore, they care about their feelings 24/7.

Lets not get into the political discussion on this platform either please...we've had the same issues here, that people struggle to discuss the concept and it turns into a political fight, if this thread goes the same way - I will close it.
7 -
During his time period, his political views were considered normal, he died in 1937. The 60's was really the big shift in views in America.
3 -
thanks both of you :)

I’d admit I don’t see any other way this thread can go given the controversy around Scott being explicitly political.
3 -
If you think closing this thread is inevitable, then I suggest you do it before things get out of hand.
The topic literally discusses about someone who is politically controversial. You can't possibly think that this won't get political.

I don't, it always does. I don't think there's ever one FNAF thread that doesn't get closed because people cannot resist the argument aspect of it.
I am the eternal optimist though and I live in hope!
6 -
Good luck, than.

Their post says they've banned it because people keep bringing up his views and obviously arguments are breaking out and they don't have time to moderate them all. It's not specifically due to his views, it's because of the redditors fighting amongst themselves and creating too much hassle for mods.

People can have complex beliefs and contradict themselves too. Take the ridiculous cancellation of Tchaikovsky for example, because of the Ukraine-Russia situation. The man was gay, anti-semitic, but cancelled because he's Russian. Yet he also defended Jews he knew and gave a scolarship to a Jewish violinist.

If his views are that detrimental to the point it affects people's perception of the games themselves, they need to stop playing all games altogether.
There are many things I disagree with BHVR, Blizzard, Riot, Square Enix, Tencent, Bandai Namco, Capcom, SNK and etc, but I don't stop playing good games just because I disagree with their viewpoints.
Actions speak louder than words.

And there we go...yet another one closed due to political chat.
