Using a VPN for Ping advantage
It's legit cheating isn't there a way to work with VPN services to find people abusing it. I understand why people are using them (Behavior we haven't forgotten) but people are actively using them for a ping advantage. It doesn't show their ping being high until you enter the game, meaning it's an unfair advantage and by definition of your own rules it's cheating.

How would you know its people using a VPN and not the server matching you with people from the wrong area?

I mean yeah... sorry but everyone has servers to connect to. Millions of players do it without an issue or need to be on a server way out of their range.
Other games stop people doing it (halo) and its certainly for the better, VPN just results in bad gameplay and that can happen for either side.

There are ways to detect someone using a VPN and there are ways to find where said persons location or region is you would have to work with VPN companies though.

There are ways of detecting abuse while using it so technically you can but question is does Behavior care about those abusing it for an advantage.

I once had a lobby with people from Thailand, USA, Russia, and Japan (at least according to their profiles). While i sit in Europe.
I wasn´t using a VPN and i doubt they did all use a VPN.

Thats not possible with dedicated servers now things are region locked so if you're getting people from other countries they are indeed using a vpn.

Yeah sometimes the servers dont work as intended.
A month or so ago i ended up on a USA server. Everyone had a ping above 200. Terrible experience and yet again, no VPN used on my side.

Chances are super high it's a VPN user. Region Lock is there for a reason.

You're underestimating how many people use them in this game chances are yes, but my question is was this before or after dedicated servers? Before is very possible, no, but with dedicated servers without a doubt yes they were using it. You're not connecting to a different server outside of your country unless you're using a VPN. There was a time briefly where it happened but Region Lock was added.

Yeah it does! If you hop into a call with 14 streams going on at once you can increase your ping artificially.

no, full stop. Pretty much every VPN remotely worth their salt use privacy and security as a selling point and many people would see a VPN service doing something like that as a massive reasson to use any other VPN.
That's also assuming they even CAN. Many VPNs are logless and have absolutely zero data on you. NordVPN for example only has your email address and billing information, that's it.

Except they do collect the server you login to as well as where your regional location is, they all do it. It might not showcase what you're doing, but they collect said data and that's the extent I think Behavior should be looking to acquire if you're logging into a US server from China, they should know since it's openly giving you an advantage.

They don't though.
They were audited by an independent third party, a company called PwC Swizterland to be exact, and "their conclusion was that they saw no signs that we had in any way violated our no-logs promise"
Obviously when you're actually connected to a server, that server has to know where your are connecting from but none of that is stored anywhere or accessible to any employee at nordVPN. They are based in a country where they are not legally obligated to retain ANY data.
In fact obfuscating your location is a massive selling point of many VPNs, so even if BHVR asked VPN providers and they COULD actually provide, all of them would say no.
Region locking is done by making it so you can only connect to the region you purchased them game in or making your select a region on startup that is difficult to change but it would still be possible to connect to a different region that way, wouldn't even need a VPN when playing, just to initially get region locked into a different region and bam, you play in that region even off VPN. Now you don't even need a good VPN, can use a slow one.

That's literally a way to artificially control your ping using Discord. A practical, real world example is not a strawman argument, since I'm not attacking a made up villain here. My point is that I don't think it's feasible or reasonable for them to disable VPNs, as that would also screw over high profile streamers that bring them free ad revenue.
If you stream and regularly get enough traffic to get a payout from Twitch, you NEED to be using a VPN.

I mean, it's just like the stretch res situation, people defended it no matter how much came out to disprove the claims, right, but the difference here is Behavior does have security issues which I get, but people connecting from Asia servers or Russia etc, who have 1 million ping but it doesn't show it bad in lobby until you get in game is indeed a problem.
It's weird how we're picking and choosing what's cheating in this community. If we're gonna call things out for cheating, we should be ready to call it all out not a small % of it.

It is a Strawman you didn't disprove my prior point you used something that is completely different that's like saying well people can just put a switch on their router to lag it seriously we know this already but the difference is there's things that exist that are far easier to do vs load up 20 streams on discord you aren't being practical you are grasping straws.

It might not be compatible with dbd I just know VPN's work Streamers use them and so do many users. Dead by Daylight wouldn't be causing your issue something on your end would be though.

well sometimes you just know... i always lose against bad nurses but played againt a 6000 hour killer who played nurse we got out well 3 of us did... but i can face a 800 hour nurse and get clapped and unironically they always have ######### ping...

Every time I play with someone from Europe my ping is super high and i get hit after I vaulted a window like 5 seconds later lol no way people do this on purpose in the hopes it's the opposite

People do actually do this on purpose it's common since servers came out accessing other regions became harder without a VPN, many people have friends in different countries and wanna play together but there's also those who just want the advantage the ping gives them. regradless of the situation, it's cheating plain and simple. A Killer with bad ping is instantly better than a Survivor with good or bad ping keep that in mind.

that's what im saying, its not always an advantage having high ping, at least for me its always a disadvantage because hit registration usually happens and you get it later. It might happen the other way around as well where they cant hit you cause high ping, but to me it seems like a gamble, and not even worth it. That sucks man

I don't consider myself a revolutionary but I do have the guts to bring it up knowing there's gonna be people who are gonna instantly jump to "but what about ddossing" when in reality a VPN doesn't fully protect you from that either there's workarounds. If your in a different country connecting to a country you're not supposed to be on, it's cheating.

Sry if I sound dumb but does having a bad ping give you an advantage in Dbd? I know from lol and wow that I am the only one suffering from a high ping.
If so would it be a simple solution to make some kind of ping border. If you connect and you have x ping then you get kickt in the loading screen

Your lag causes the entire match to lag because the survivors connected to a masked super laggy lobby meaning anything they do is gonna lag and your hits even on ranged Killers will look insanely laggy. Point being, it gives the Killer a super advantage while putting the survivors into a laggy mess that they have no control over.

Okey then my idea doesn't sound so bad if your ping is to high you can't connect. Sure some people will say they have bad internet and what not but you can't put that burden on the other players. Same as when people complain about dc penalty cause they have spotty connections

You can't, but you can assume based on the color of the ping indicator, anything above 100 is gray, and red is 200+.

Your hits do connect, but they look insanely bad on the survivors end due to them lagging due to the connection. Also, if Behavior added a way to see who's using a VPN (Yes, it's possible some games have done it) and base reports of lag with proof of a VPN, that's enough cause to assume cheating as you are supposed to be connecting to your closet VPN, server to begin with. Also if they really wanted too, they could add a log that logs all pings throughout the game, so if someones got 200+ its logged and even have a spread sheet of their ping throughout the match it's not hard the server is consistently pinging anyway.

They could just show the Ping of the fellow team mates and you decide if you wanna play it. done.

Except they do that when you hit esc lmao. Also, you can't dc, without a penalty and it's not like your team can't just bum rush hooks to unhook you. See why it would be easier to tackle the problem at the source. An even better idea is show the Killers ping.
