Hidden Grades

I think the current state of grades being hidden for this week’s/today’s experimental should be permanent. So many people here & the devs say Grades are just indicative of time played and not skill (I disagree), so leave them off.

Seeing the teammate who crab walks in the corner and farms players off hook, is a Bronze grade II in post game- on the 10th of the month, is triggering (for me). Why is it triggering? Because we went up against a Red Grade I huntress with godlike aim, further perpetuating the stigma that matchmaking is dog water, and grades at the VERY LEAST, DO give an indication of skill. (Let’s not have a back n forth on the grades equal time played thing- agree to disagree).

So I say leave em off permanently. There’s no reason to see each other’s grades. Who cares right? I really do like this change.

what do BP and perks have to do with this?

Grades are now mainly used for grade rewards on the 13th of a month. It literally doesn’t have another point. You can easily pip up without any skill and you can be highly skilled but are low grade because you haven’t played for a short while. What’s the point of others knowing your grade? And if it means so much to you you can screenshot it and share with friends/social media.

Only thing I know about it,

The 13th of every month, everyone turns into a noob. Now that grades are hidden we won't need to suffer anymore.

there is no way to distinguish skill levels with the current grades. It wasn’t really possible with old grades either and it’s not really possible if you could see the MMR score (though at least that one is used for matchmaking).

having perks and addons is also not really related to skill? It’s more a system to have something to unlock/play for. You may get more/faster BP if you are higher skilled but it’s not necessary to be high skill to get BP at all.

Names are kinda needed for reports.

and it is pretty easy to pip as killer. Since you can’t really fall down a grade anymore it’s really not that hard.

It is relatively easy to pip as killer. Trust me. I am awfully bad as killer and get pips or at least black pips consistently.

it may be not as easy to hit iri 1, but that’s just a matter of how much time you play before the reset.

sorry. But the current system with the full reset each month is not a good indication of skill.

dude. Don’t assume you know what kind of matches or opponents i get. I am not playing in low ranks, I am currently gold on killer and that while not really playing much. I have been iri before.

its not hard to pip in general. I am not saying it’s easy to pip in every single match. And we were not talking about getting double pips.

You are exaggerating and overestimating iri grades in their current form.

edit: oh wait you are actually agreeing with me that it’s not hard to reach iri 1 as killer. Well. Nice try though.

agreed. leave them off. they don't mean anything and they cause confusion about "skill" and matchmaking.

instead, please replace them with character portraits. i never know who was who in the results screen.

I won’t give you my profile info.

i have all achievements unlocked. If you don’t believe me then why on earth would you believe me by showing a profile which could just be not mine?

sorry. You are clearly new. Just keep playing and you will notice that it may seem difficult in the beginning but it actually isn’t.

(and you literally commented in that that thread it wasn’t hard to get to iri 1 but it was not fun)

I actually agree with removing the display of grades, there is very clearly confusion in the community, I very commonly see people referencing their grade as if it was used as an indicator for your MMR. I think in the post game they should put your devotion + player level where the grade was, that actually gives you an idea of how experienced your opponent(s)/team is but not how good they are.

Yes please, remove them! So tired of seeing people complaining about SBMM with a screenshot of the grades as if it meant anything... The devs have made it clear it is not an indication of skill so it really suprised me when we could still see them. If they want to show us the "skills" they could show us the players' MMR (i do think it'd lead to more people being sweaty but that's an other topic), showing grade has no purpose.

I wish they would show us the character's portraits instead, I never pay attention to the usernames and it's bothersome when i want to check someone's build.

It's just an excuse for more toxicity showing badges.

As long as I get my bonus BP I don't care.

I could be a noob at one killer but it shows me as top grade I got with another. Roll on the abuse.

Not that I care one jot anymore BTW.

Grade's achieved as survivor rely somewhat on your team so what's the point of them either.

I only suspected one subtle speed hacker yesterday which is a lot less than normal too. Touch wood.

And it’s easy enough to just use someone else’s profile and still write fiction - which you would accuse me of anyways judging by your behavior in this thread.

i have my profile set on private and won’t add you as a friend just to proof I got the Iri 1 killer achievement. There is enough people here on the forums already having this done and still agreeing with my point that it’s easy.

    I lean the other way.

Look, games have shown ranks, emblems, and tiles for EVER.

    Black Ops 2.

You see the player's current rank. You see their emblem. You see their Tag. You see their banner.

Open up their profile with a button:

You see their Score Per Minute. You see their favored weapons. You see their every basic statistic.

The ranks aren't the problem. The problem is that there is a definitive LACK of clearly personal flare, and clearly INDESPUTABLE information.

When you see a private in BO2 and a Grandmaster in BO2 - you understand the difference in how much time was spent acquiring those levels. The Private is a noob who probably just bought the game, the Grandmaster has around 500 hours, perhaps more. True, some privates CAN be good... true, some Grandmasters CAN be boosted.

Dead By Daylight you can have a prop player in Ash, you can have a dweeb in IR1. It's a complete crapshoot.

In BO2 the emblem and the banner are custom to the player. They can make their own emblem and can choose from SEVERAL HUNDRED Banners. It is clear that some Banners or emblem options are more difficult to acquire than others, but they are purely cosmetic and are not indicative of player skill outside of certain regalia.

Dead By Daylight has no customization. The information shown is purely informational. However, it is not at all reflective of the truth in any such way.

The ranks / Emblems in Dead by Daylight do not at all paint a clear picture of a player's skill, a player's experience, or a player's exploits. Yet, they are brandished as some sort of badge of status.

They are status symbols with no status behind them, and nothing to symbolize.

This unapologetically horrendous design choice has made ranks a lose-lose. Players will get frustrated when they see disparity in these symbols, because they have nothing else to look at. But on the other hand, the emblems mean NOTHING. They aren't even good as bragging rights anymore.

Either rework the emblem system to MEAN something and reflect actual data on the player, or make it a cosmetic choice. Otherwise, don't bother having it in the game.

In reality, the post game lobby should have the survivor and killer picture on the side so that it is easier to recall who is who in the post-game chat without having to go to Options/matchsettings or whatever just to see which one was the Claud and which one was the Dwight.

Until you convey actual, legitimate, and concrete information with your badges - or make the badges cosmetic. Designate that area as character portraits.

    Do the smart thing.

it doesn’t even matter if I have it or not. There are plenty of users here who got it and agreeing that it’s easy vs you who is definitely in the minority, pretty new to the game and only got it once and that during matchmaking testphases 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I love the hidden grades too! It takes away this placebo effect of grades being ranks. But instead of this generic symbols just show character portraits.

Matchmaking was amazing balanced this evening/night (EU, PS5). Winning and losses. I'm a casual player. No op killers no op survs, no baby survs, no baby killers, no toxic at all. It felt very balanced. And the fun was back without too much sweaty gameplay.

Damn. I see that it is really hard for you. Luckily there were those tests that probably made it easier for you 👍

i am not the one that needs to cope with reality

Educate yourselves. Ranks are no more. They are called grades now and function different to what ranks were
