My Unpopular DbD Opinions
Here's some of my opinions that seem to get a strong reaction.
1. I like vsing Bubba and Myers (when Mikey brings the good stuff). They scare me which reminds me of how much fun beginning DbD was.
2. NOED hurts both survivors in the short term and killers in the long term.
3. NOED and DH are both used for the exact same reason; overpowered compared to other perks, low risk high reward, and have a low skill ceiling to get maximum effect.
4. The game should be rebalanced to make camping, tunneling and gen rushing all less effective. DbD is the most fun for the most people when there are multiple hooks and chases.
5. Nurse and Blight represent standards of effectiveness to which weaker killers should be buffed. At the very least, weaker killers should be buffed to be closer to Artist's and Spirit's level.
6. Solo survivors need information buffs to bring them closer to SWF level. Then killers can be buffed to SWF levels. I don't know if this qualifies as unpopular since the devs are planning this one but I put it in anyway.
7. It's okay to lose a game. It's not a big deal.
8. Most players will never be as good as someone like Otz who is naturally gifted and does this as their job. That's perfectly fine; people don't need to overly take pride or worry so much about their skill level in a video game. It's just a video game.
9. 50% of the frustration and complaints with Dbd would disappear if the developers would do things such as put a one second delay on the second crouch animation and remove flashlight macros.
10. There are legitimate complaints about gameplay for both the killer side and the survivor side.
How about yours?

Here are some of mine:
- The game has overall a pretty high skill floor but a really low skill ceiling
- Demogorgon is A tier
- SoloQ is fine, it's bad Survivors that are dragging it down, not SoloQ itself being weak
- Artist is fun to verse and to play as
- Hex: No One Escapes Death is mediocre Perk and gets easily countered
- Camping, slugging, tunneling show more game knowledge than going for 12 Hooks

Hmm. Let's take a look.
- Bubba and Myers are fun, as long as they aren't camping or abusing TSP.
- Eh. NOED could go away and I'd be happy, but if you play smart it's much ado about nothing.
- How is that an unpopular opinion? That's...fact :)
- Camping yes. Tunneling...you've already got a team and multiple perks to help with that. Genrushing isn't really a thing outside of very specific and expensive SWF builds.
- Maybe not Nurse and Blight. Both of these killers are mostly fine, but have addons that are disproportionately powerful. I'd reckon Plague and Demogorgon are examples of nearly perfect killer design.
- That's coming, yeah.
- Sure?
- I think a lot of people could be as good as Otz with 8.5k hours. The problem is that if you aren't getting paid for it, that's an absurd time commitment to a single aspect of a hobby.
- Teabagging...whatever. You do it, you die. You teabag me at the gates, I'll remember you. Beyond that, I don't care. Flashlight macros can actually cause physical discomfort for players and it's astonishing that a company as 'progressive' as BHVR have allowed them to remain a thing.
- Sure?
Now, for some actually unpopular opinions :)
- SBMM is better than ranks were in terms of matchmaking.
- About half the killers in the game need a substantial buff.
- Splitting the playerbase into Ranked and Unranked queues is a terrible idea.
- We need a 'game health' patch, even if it comes at the expense of a new killer.
- There needs to be a bigger penalty for regularly DCing or AFKing.

- Spirit is the most fun killer
- Spirit is in a great spot
- Spirit needs no basekit changes
- I like the design of boon totems (COH is the exception)
- Nurse’s skill ceiling is massively overrated
2 -
- Deathslinger is still fun to play strength low after his nerfs? well yeah
- Lerys is the most balanced map imo unless of course you are a power like hillbilly or blight lol
- Legion is fun to play against
- Infectious fright is unhealthy
1 -
- Mikey is not the worst killer in the game. Not by a long shot. He definitely needs some buffs but he is not a contender for worst.
- SWF is fine. Its the balance of the game like maps, perks, killers needing buffs etc that make it tough.
- Its not the killer's job to make sure you have a fun match. And vice versa.
Btw I don't think finding Mikey fun to verse is unpopular. Quite the opposite I'd say.

Mine is that hatch should be replaced with a better endgame mechanic.

Unpopular opinion
huntress is boring
pinhead is fun
Sadoku is boring
boon totems are fine just need a cool down
pyramid heads got the best chase music
Claire Redfield is the best legendary skin
jill Valentine is the best survivor in the game
feng nea and Claud are overrated
Blight is fine and doesn’t need a nerf

100% this, yes

Hmm
1) STBFL may be one of my fav perks but I don't like how trivial it makes camping, many killers who I see using it will secure stacks early on then use it to make hook trading for someone being camped impossible
2) I don't think basekit BT is as completely necessary as some people make it out to be, although I can def see why some people want it.
3) Map RNG is probably one of the biggest factors in deciding which side wins a match. Certain realms are more guilty of this problem than others
4) DBD content on YT/Twitch has gotten incredibly stale even though I still enjoy playing the game myself. I feel like there's too much whinging going on to simply enjoy watching.
1 -
Definitely a good point there dbd has been boring to watch since the silent hill chapter tbh
2 -
One of the big things that puts me off is the attitude of the streamers/their chats
Be it they can't take criticism, their chats encourage a very hostile environment (Insulting the streamers opponents, encouraging them to BM and so on) and generally the arrogance of many of the DBD content creators. For some it's no longer just playing a video game to entertain, it's about proving they are better than everyone else or something like that
The only DBD content I watch these days is stuff like Benjo, dumb clips that showcase the funny moments of the game instead of the frustrating.
Maybe it's just me though, I'm sure not everybody sees it that way.
2 -
Hmm, I agree with most of those. As for mine, I'd say the real only unpopular opinions I have is that I think Legion is one the best designed killers from a power, aesthetic, and lore standpoint, and that Nemesis was one of the worst picks for an RE killer.
2 -
Agree
2 -
- The general design of boon totems is a big problem, not just COH. They need some baseline changes or the perks will never be able to be good without being broken.
- Detective’s Hunch is lowkey busted.
- The game could use an entire chapter focused only on game health and QoL updates that has no new killer or any other new content.
- Deathslinger is mostly fine now. He just needs his smaller TR back.
- The changes to Spirit overall were handled well and her basekit is fine. She just needs some addons changed.
- Gen regression perks for killer and things that speed up gens for survivor should both eventually be nerfed after basekit regression is slightly more impactful and the early game gets revisited to help prevent corrupt from feeling as necessary as it currently is.
- Artist is fun to play and play against.
2 -
I agree with deathslinger he's still fine to play in my opinion it's just that monitor and abuse feels mandatory now
1 -
Yeah, I usually run it on him now.
1 -
Honestly you hit most of my opinions. You just made me smile.
1 -
Don’t diss Claud.
3 -
She sucks im sorry bro
1 -
Nea I will agree with.

They are my kryptonite😅. I had one match against a full resident evil team and for some reason Chris dced. Maybe because I was playing pinhead but I just memed with the Jill and the Claire.
Just a few highlights. I remember once I was playing killer and I was like, “I’m about to go full tryhard and kill these gu..” then someone switched to Claire and I was like “oh maybe we can chill in this one”. A full team means I’m letting them pallet stun me all game
3 -
Don’t worry she’s down there too she’s awful
1 -
Yes. Claud though, she’s a queen.
1 -
no Claire is a queen, Claud is lame
1 -
The real queen is obviously though. Her name is Rin Yamaoka.
2 -
YOU TAKE THAT BACK! SHE IS A QUEEN! SHES THE BEST! YOURE JUST JEALOUS!
MEANIE!!!!!!!!
3 -
I’ll give you that one but she is a killer😭
1 -
Actually pretty reasonable opinions that I think are probably more popular than not
1 -
The entity twisted her. I will go to the realm and save her if it kills me.
3 -
Insert Freddy’s laugh*

Not sure how much of this is unpopular but here goes.
- The game could use more indoor maps.
- The people that hates dbd as much as they claim to do and who are done with the game yet are obsessed with seeing it dying and having it's playerbase leaving it for another game in some attempt to get back at BHVR needs to get over themselves.
- Grade Rewards is one of the best things to come to the game in general.
- There is no good or bad lore stories, only what we subjectively like and dislike.
- Meme addons adds variety to killers.
- MMR isn't perfect by any means, but the emblem system was way worse.

I may be repeating others sentiments (and some of what I might think "unpopular" might not actually be), but here goes:
1) While the ability of Boons to continuously be relit is, IMO, bad balance design, I actually don't have problems with COH (or any boons) in the vast majority of my matches, and the changes made to COH make it a perk I can work around almost all of the time.
2) While I hate going up against a Bully squad that displays BM'ing or poor sportsmanship (though I love when those squads end up all dead on a hook), I DO like going against sabo/flashlight squads in general. Both flashlights and sabo are game mechanics, and if I go against a really good team that plays that strategy well, then it's a challenge I welcome. Usually, over-altruism ends up being the death of them. I think there's a difference between a team using that strategy to try and win, and a team using that strategy to try and bully an overmatched opponent to get their laughs.
3) I actually have come to like playing on RPD, either as a killer or survivor. It's a gorgeous map, and now that I've started to learn the layout, I don't have the issues I did with it when it first went live. Other than the well-documented issues with the library and lack of hooks there, when that map ends up in my match, I'm fine with it either way.
4) Speaking of indoor maps, I miss Hawkins. I hate seeing ANY content removed from the game, and while I couldn't stand Hawkins when I first started playing DBD, I came to know the map well over time and was fine with it in either role.
5) The game's balance isn't as bad as people make it out to be. There are plenty of issues, 100%, that need to be addressed (buffing solo survivor, buffing certain killers and the killer QOL in general, and something to address the elephant in the room of the advantage of playing SWF), but I rarely feel completely overwhelmed in either role, and my results are solid in both. I enjoy the game, and I'd make the argument that it's in a better place than it was when I started during Chains of Hate (other than the hacking, which is something that NEEDS to be addressed).
6) I enjoy playing killer, and I don't feel the dislike I know so many people do in the role. That may be a "me" thing -- I like playing iconic horror movie characters, I enjoy the wide range of powers, I enjoy always having something to do (unlike playing survivor, which can get more tedious after a while). While I think QOL issues with the killer role need to be addressed, I don't think it's as bad as some people make it out to be.
7) DBD may not be a "competitive" game, but I don't mind admitting to being competitive when I'm playing -- and I don't think anything is wrong with that. Playing fair (as in, no cheats or hacks) and trying to have fun doesn't mean not trying to win. I try to win every match I play, either as killer or survivor. If I do, that's great, and if I don't, it's okay -- you don't win all of the time. Being a gracious winner and a good sport when losing is more paramount to me than anything else in a match.
8) I don't have an issue with people running "meta" builds on either side. The perks are there -- use them! For the most part, I don't think there are any perks on either side that are so OP that they need to be changed dramatically (Dead Hard is probably the closest "problematic" perk I can think of. The constant posts of people wanting to nerf [insert name of perk here] always strike me as people simply complaining instead of adapting to something challenging to face.
9) I don't think any killer needs nerfs (though some could use QOL buffs). When I play survivor, I LIKE going against a really good Nurse or Blight. It's a challenge, and escaping against one feels better than 4-outing a 1-perk Trapper with 10 hours in the game.
10) SBMM doesn't work -- or at least not the way it should -- but everyone forgets how BAD the matchmaking was before it was implemented. There was literally multiple threads on here every day about mismatches and people who wanted to give up playing because of them. The biggest problem is with the imbalance of people in either role at a given time and the prioritizing of queue times above everything else during those times. What we have now isn't better than what we had, but it's not necessarily worse either.

On point 2 I like going against that when they aren't bming it offers a nice challenge and a change of pace
