If you need to disconnect mid game, please leave dbd instead of ruining everyone's fun

Yes, we get it, there are some startegies or builds that you do not like to go against. But if dbd is lacking in fun to the point where you just dc, why are you even in this game in the first place? I am sure that you could find a game that is fun for you and would not require you to leave. You do not need to ruin 4 people's game.

kinda like when killers dc after you've looped em too many times and they wanna save face.

if you can't take the humility, try a new game.

I am of the mind that some games I will get killers I do not like. I will get Survivors who are good players, I will go up against meta builds, I will get a map i don't like, but you know what I do? I play the game.

I like a challenge. Some games I win, some I lose. At least I tried. If you don't want a challenge then go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure where the most challenge is growing strawberries or something.

Win or lose with dignity. It's just a game.

funny to see how some people think they need to decide for the owner of a product how they should use it or even better....stop using it.....

Since, I'm on console, I'm not familiar with how steam names work -- are you the only person who can have that name on steam?

If so, then I'm pretty sure I went against you a little while back (I'm not 100% sure -- my memory isn't what it used to be, lol, but I think that was the name). I was streaming, playing one of the killers I struggle with (Huntress), and I laughed when I saw the name. I brought a green Mori just for the person and did indeed get the Mori on them.

If that was you, I do remember that everyone played well, it was fun, and I hope you had fun as well. If it wasn't you, I never run Moris and have a pretty good supply of them on everyone -- I'll make sure to bring one if I see you, lol. 😁

The problem is; some people use 'I bought it!' as an excuse to ruin other product-owner's fun. IE: Disconnecting, or hacking.

'I bought it!!' is not a valid excuse when your actions are ruining the game for others via breaking the rules. (IE: DCing and hacking are not allowed. But 'You are ruining my fun!' is not a valid excuse for VALID things, like running perks or using allowed tactics like camping, tu nneling, slugging, or t-bagging.)

On steam you can change your name whenever you want and there can be multiple players with the same name. I'm mostly playing Yui, so if you'll see me, say hi xD

Lol, it's a multi player pvp game. Part of the social contract of playing games is to follow the rules and not to just quit mid game for whatever reason.

Ever play a board game where someone just quits? It basically ruins the game for everyone else. So yes, people are going to make the suggestion to quit playing all together if your skin is so thin that you can't handle a little adversity in a 10 minute video game.

  • Saitamfed
    Saitamfed Member Posts: 1,622

There is no such a thing like social contract. People can quit even on a board game, get over with.

  • HexDaddyissues
    HexDaddyissues Member Posts: 328

hey man. if my girlfriend is feeling frisky, i don't care how well the round is going or whos match im ruining, no "social contract" matters at that point.

also: there is no social contract. If people wanna quit, they have every right to do that in just about every facet of life. Video games, board games, jobs, living in general. theres no fine print anywhere that states you HAVE to stay.

If there is no social contract, go cut in line sometime and see how that works out.

Or better yet, invite me to play swf with you and see how many games you play with me when I quit at any whim. I bet at some point you would probably stop playing with me.

Just because you don't want to follow the social contract doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  • AngyKiller
    AngyKiller Member Posts: 1,838

Wrong. There's a reason quitting gets you punished. When you log into a MULTIPLAYER game, you have a duty to NOT ruin it for your fellow players. I mean, unless you're completely self-absorbed and selfish and don't care about anyone but yourself.

Wrong again. See my above statement. When you log into the game, you have a duty to not be a jerk. Hence why people get punished for griefing, cheating, and DCing in most multiplayer games.

Social contracts are a real thing. Also; try getting your friends together for a board game night every weekend and quit playing when you begin to lose every time. I bet, in short order, they'd stop playing board games with you.

  • Saitamfed

You don't have a duty or whatsoever. You get punished just because people can't get the fact that others will decide to DC if they want to... besides if I play a bit of devi's advocate. Aren't you doing the same thing? Calling other people selfish whene you want them to play just for OTHER people's sake?

    so·cial con·tract

    /ˈsōSHəl kənˈtrakt,ˈkäntrakt/

    noun

    1. an implicit agreement among the members of a society to cooperate for social benefits

For example: Agreeing to NOT DC like a baby, because it ruins the game for others. They make the same agreement so that your own game is not ruined by THEM DCing.

How are people unable to understand this? Social contracts are not someting you sign. They are an agreement.

Kind of like the social contract to not murder each other because it would make the victim's family sad.

Or to obey traffic laws because that's safer for the complete strangers in the cars around you. Unless you folks are telling me you'd slam into other cars, speed, run over foot traffic, and run red lights if the law did not prohibit it? Because you don't believe in social contracts?

An agreement is something that is agreed in both parties. Did you ask every player? No? Also, if we are starting to talk about it. That's called circumstancial evidence... it means it only works from your point of view. Who are you to tell those players didn't have an issue? Who are you to say that those people are not suffering from illness and the click click actually hurts them? Oh no, because FOR ME those people are crybabies, then it must be so.

Also, social agreement has nothing to do with murders, those are laws, if you break them, you have a punishment for doing so (laws are rules made in order to being able to live in a society)... that's not social agreement. You're mixing apples with pineapples.

The agreement is implied by logging in. You agree to not be a jerk to your fellow players. This includes:

    1. Not treating them like crap
    2. Not being racist, sexist, etc.
    3. Not DCing because you're losing.
    4. Not being a sore loser or winner.
    5. Not cheating.

Why are people so thick that they can't understand this? Instead, people sit here and go 'Whaaa! Whaaa! Only I matter! Show me where I have to be nice to everyone else! Show me where I have to care about anyone but me!' 🙄

If anyone feels legitimate fear, anxiety, or fury from the game - they should 100% DC.

It's just a video game. Their life is more important than a silly match, we can all get along just fine and it's good that they stepped away.

There are some bad will actors who jump out at the earliest inconvenience, and they should probably re-evaluate their behavior.

As it stands, though, nobody should feel compelled to stop playing the game.

If they enjoy the experience, that's the one thing that we all have in common - a passion for the game.

The only time someone should feel encouraged to leave Dead By Daylight behind is if it is having a negative impact on their life in any way.

Unless someone is feeling emotional turmoil, our job as a community is to welcome them and steer them right - not push them away and tell them to stop enjoying something that we all love.

just because you have no other hobbies doesnt mean everyone else has to adhere to your ideals. people dc all the time and wait for teh ban to lift then join again. there is literally no requirement to say in the game, yes there is punishment for not doing so, but no, social contracts are not a real thing. good try though

I had a day when i played vs 5 basement babbas in a row as surv in soloq. I understand why they exist currently and i am even somewhat favorable to know they are out there to give the most toxic survivors a headache but these days i would probably just dc when i see one, i dont care about bloodpoints, i dont care about rankings or mmr, i only somewhat care about my own fun aslong as the trial is interesting and i can witness skill and nice plays with the 5 people involved but these matches are generic and it feels like you play vs a bot with 0 skill. Some people suggest to just rush through the gens and leave but honestly not even that is worth the time and energy in my eyes, i rather wait for the next game, switch back to killer or quit the game for the day. Theres just nothing to gain from such a match no matter if you win or loose.
