Pretending?
It's not Ranks. It's Grades.
It's not MMR. It's SBMM.
There is no pay to skip the Grind. You can just pay for DLC to have the perks available to you sooner. You can just pay for the DLC, so you can spend Iri on perks in the Shrine for Bloodpoints.
It's not pay to win. You can just pay for the DLC to have the perks than waiting 4+ months for the perk you need to appear in the shrine.
The community isn't Toxic. It's Entitled.
So in Hockey...
(Wanted to open a discussion asking why are we pretending?)

SBMM is the system. MMR is your rank within that system.
26 -
Maybe it's Maybelline
26 -
What are you talking about?
12 -
Why is there so much stuff in this community that we lie and pretend about? SBMM is just MMR (I've even seen Dev's refer to the MMR as Skill Based Match Making Rank). Grades is just Ranks. The game is pay to win. There was a lot of talk about the community being toxic before, and a bunch of Fog Whisperer's started to tell their communities "It's not toxic it's entitled" (wonder who told them to do that).
0 -
Okay well ...
You're just flat out wrong about sbmm. Mmr is the number that affects sbmm. People just say mmr because that's easier.
Complaining about ranks being called grades is stupid. They changed the name to make it so people stop aquaiting your rank to matchmaking.
The game isn't pay to win, the only perks that are any good are on original killers that you can unlock with shards.
And literally no one saying that the community isn't toxic. The only thing I've seen people say is "I've seen worse" referring to games like LoL or CoD
7 -
I honestly thought they were two terms being used for for same thing.
0 -
The game isn't pay to win, the only perks that are any good are on original killers that you can unlock with shards.
BBQ & Chili, STBFL, Deadlock, Plaything, Lethal Pursuer are definitely good perks. Others might be more niche but still ok.
9 -
All of which can be found in the shrine eventually and none of which are required to win.
7 -
The game is pay to win. You can either wait 4 months for a perk (if you're lucky) or straight up buy a DLC. I promise you won't be grinding for months if you do.
0 -
I was addressing the ‘only good perks are on original killers’ piece.
1 -
Good perks but not even remotely as good as dms, pain resonance, pgtw, ruin, undying, corrupt, tinkerer, starstruck.
Hell, the original killers themselves are miles stronger than any licensed one.
My point still stands, the only good perks are on og killers
3 -
🤷🏼♀️🧟♀️
8 -
SBMM is the whole system, MMR is the personal score that you have within that SBMM.
Ranks are not Grades - they were changed to make it clearer that rank is not used for matchmaking and also made so that you can't go down a grade
Game is definitely not pay to win, especially when the Nurse is a free DLC - even perks are on the Shrine of Secrets.
The grind exists whether you have a DLC or not, you still have to level up characters to get the perks
The community is the community, it's also a PVP game so there's always going to be friction - that's the very nature of these types of games.
11 -
Ah.. so BHVR knows that Nurse is good too
0 -
Saying that because the shrine of secret exists, the game doesnt have p2w mechanics, is pretty weird.
Remember Clash Royale? You could get all of the cards by playing, but that would take extremely long, while people who use money to get the cards faster were wiping the floor with f2p players.
While not on the same scale as CR, DbD still has this unfair mechanic of people paying being able to unlock winning tools much easier (seriously, with 4 perks/week, out of which 48 are base game, it could take years until you finally see the perk you need in the shrine)
2 -
Do people at BHVR even know what pay to win means?
1 -
pretending? Yessir i am

Ahhh my cutie Bugo girl I give you +20 Internets for posting that pic

You are entitled to your wrong opinion.

Hornet meets Hornet to see who has gotten good
0 -
Hornet has.
Uhh huh, and let’s give the ost a listen shall we? Or story? Or art style? Or gameplay?
1 -
Sorry, but...what did I just read?
I literally have no idea what you're getting at.
No, I'm still not following you.
Are you complaining about semantics?
Almost all the good perks come from killers you can buy with shards. About the only exceptions are BBQ (and we're looking at a grind fix, I'm guessing for the anniversary patch) and STBFL.
The rest are a mixture of useless perks and gimmicks like Plaything.
At very worst, it's pay to skip. And this game isn't all that aggressively monetized at all.
0 -
DBD its not pay 2 win you can literraly unlock killers/survivors for playing the game you can get shards and dont spend them in anything and get 9.000 shards and thats a free killer surv unlocked yes you can them to unlock them sooner and faster but you can be patient and get shards by only playing you can buy 2 killers/survivors 18.000 shards just be patient
0 -
You can’t buy licensed DLC with shards though.
1 -
I forgor💀
1 -
Seriously.
I'm honestly proud of the devs for keeping a pattern of making licenced characters B tier or lower. (The video game characters being A tier as the exception)
0 -
See, can play to unlock doesn't mean there's no p2w. As I said in another reply on this thread, take Clash Royale: can you play a lot to unlock the op stuff? Yeah, it will simply take a VERY long time. Can you pay to unlock the op stuff, without having to wait months? Yes, and it will help you swipe the floor with the other f2p players.
Just because you can play 50 hours to unlock a character, it doesn't mean there's no p2w. You can either spend 50 hours to unlock the OP character (e.g. Mikaela for CoH), or you can spend money to quicky unlock them and ease your matches.
But it gets worse with licensed characters, where an entire part of the game is locked behind a paywall. If you want a certain perk (e.g. DS), you have to pray it will appear in the shrine (which btw, contains 48 perks that you can unlock base game)
1 -
That are available to everybody, even eventually being made free on the Shrine. Having to pay for DLC isn't pay to win. Do you honestly think the devs should be supporting this game for free? Like every chapter update should cost nothing? Imagine the price of cosmetics in that situation. No thanks.
Those are all decent to good perks. Are any of them absolutely necessary? Not really. There's plenty of info perks that show auras like BBQ, they just don't have the bloodpoint bonus. It isn't necessary.
1 -
Decisive Strike hasn't hit the shrine in over 4 months.
So you're saying that if a player BUYS Myers DLC right now and then with their 1m bp and/or banked bp pump Laurie to 40, to get the decisive strike teachable, then put the rest in their main survivor that already has all the perks available to it. So in 3 pages, gets tier 3 DS.
compared to a player that nets MONTHS into the game, just waiting for DS to appear in shrine, which btw hasn't been for 4 months now, other Meta perks LONGER. Assuming they are holding the bp to level for it when they get it, but oh wait every 1m you reach you have to spend it because there is a BP cap - so you are wasting BP by not buying DLC.
You think this isn't pay to win? Because it is the literal definition of pay to win. Pay to win is when you pay money to have an advantage at the game. Gaining the strongest perks faster is an advantage.
1 -
Not really. If you needed to buy dead hard, bt, ub, iron will, or coh, along with ds then yeah, it'd be pay to win.
Fact of the matter is, og characters perks are miles better than any strictly paid ones. And again, the shrine exists so you still can get them for free. You'd even skip a ton of grind getting the perk from the shrine since you don't need to level that character.
You're just hopping on to that "hate bhvr" circle jerk
0 -
Pay to win is when you pay money to have an advantage at the game. Gaining the strongest perks faster is an advantage. People can argue the strongest Killers, but "Nurse is Free" is not an excuse to putting most good Killers behind a paywall as well.
I don't hate BHVR, I like BHVR. Actually I commend them on their keen ability of marketing, and ability to manipulate their player base.
0 -
Genuine question. Do BHVR devs have to grind to unlock stuff in this game or do they have it unlocked by default? Because you guys either a) dont play your game or b) don't deal with the grind in the game
0 -
The strongest perks are free though. You named 1 perk that you """"""need""""" to buy that's strong.
0 -
Gann I'm sorry but I have to say Hollow Knight is better ... Last time I played Valorant I was harassed until I quit because I was a new player. It's has more toxic players per Capita than DbD
0 -
Fair but honestly I really wanna get better at it because it seems so rewarding to improve at.
0 -
Pay to win is when you pay money to have an advantage at the game. Gaining the strongest perks faster is an advantage.

The strongest perks are free

The game is lowkey pay to win because Bubba isn't free. I had to buy him. And all of a sudden I started winning against players MUCH more skilled than I. Take that, my 5 dollars was worth more than your 5k hours. Gg ez, baby survivor.
2 -
I play the game and unlock everything the same as you do, as do the other developers I know.
0 -
So you grind iri shards to unlock characters, or do you buy the dlc?
0 -
Pay to win is when you pay money to have an advantage at the game. Gaining the strongest perks faster is an advantage.
This List is just opinion, but to deny that many of these perks are strong perks you're just lying, and I am sure other players can argue why perks I didn't include in this list should be on it and consider them strong.

Dude, the strongest perks are on characters that you start out with for free. Everyone has access to the literal best possible perks available from the start
0 -
You have access to Barbeque and Chili, and Decisive Strike at the start? That's news to me. Man I should make a new account on the Epic Games store because I start with Dead Man Switch, and Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance. Got to love starting the game with Pop Goes The Weasel.

No, but you do start with adrenaline, unbreakable, iron will, bt, dead hard, kindred, sprint burst, wglf, spine chill, inner healing, bond, prove thyself, ruin, tinkerer, jolt, devour hope, and nurses calling.
But oh no! Other good perks you have to buy with in game currency that you can obtain even by afking the whole match! Even though you have all the necessary perks at your disposal to make a normal meta build, it's pay to win because I need something to hate bhvr for!!1!1!
Notice how you're no longer using your other talking points because people pointed out that you were wrong, you are also dead wrong about dbd being pay to win
