indeed. a more accurate statement is "wait to have fun/win" as you gotta wait for shrine to refresh. you can get an A-Tier build on both surv and killer for free within a couple months of playing tho

A decent amount of characters are locked behind paywall to its also "pay for variety"

but def not pay to win

I wouldn't say you need licensed perks but I am not a fan myself that I have to buy characters for them. Especially the ones I don't really want to play.

Unless I am going to wait months and years for perks I want in shrine of secrets.

It is how it is tho. Although perks like ds should be made available for everyone imo.

I wouldn’t say it’s pay to win some of the best stuff is free like chili man said.

But it is pay to progress faster. Want bbq and chili? Well gotta pay 5 dollars to get it. Or what about the shrine of secrets? Well tuff luck it’s a 2 out of a mountain of perks chance for it to appear there. Even with free survivors/killers we gotta play like over 120 games to unlock a character and get them to level 30+. I’ve been calling out BHVRs crappy aggressive economy in Dbd for a while. Literally the game should be F2P.

    Um... no.

Lethal's a noob perk or a meme perk at most.

Nurse has the best power, and all the best perks are unlockable through shards.

    Lethal pursuer isn't op

Its an information perk, its strength is showing you how ######### spawns are

Some of the best stuff is free, and some of the best stuff is paid. Objectively. Not even sure why this is a debate, people on here talk trash about the game and the devs, but when you say that it is pay to win, everyone dusts off their armor.

Speaking of which, can we get a Knight killer? Would be pog and apparently quite relatable.

    Nurse is free

    Dead Hard is free

    "The dullahan"

But i guess it would be quite problematic selling head cosmetic with him.

OR they carry their head under the left arm and use it to bash in breakable walls or pallets XD that would be hilarious.

i'd usually just say "ok" or something like that to this kind of post but honestly you really don't get all that much in the base game. if you didn't spend any money on the game at all besides the base price you'd be bored of your mind before you were even close to getting enough shards for a new character.

i wouldn't call it p2w because what is in the base game is enough but i'd call it boring as hell if you're not shelling out more money than you really should be spending on a video game.

i guess thats an issue with modern games overall rather than just dbd

jesus christ we live in the worst timeline

Pay to win doesn't mean Pay to play. Pay to win is when you can use real money to earn an advantage in the game. So having the ability to purchase DLC to unlock specific perks/characters faster than waiting for them to appear in the shrine, or purchase those characters with Shards is pay to win.

Also CHAPTER III: Of Flesh and Mud isn't free for steam players.

    McCree: “Nuh-uh.”

STBFL, Deadlock, Decisive Strike. All licensed content that can be pretty game-changing.

Hey and we have another new player who got the facts wrong, or someone who is just trolling.

Pay to win means you can buy your advantage which you would get otherwise.

Like in fps for example where you buy a gun that you can't get buy playing the game.

It might look like a normal gun but instead if fires faster and does more damage than the normal gun.

That, my friend, is pay to win.

DBD is definitely not pay to win cause every perk you can get buy playing.

    Dennis_van_eijk Member Posts: 1,704

Exactly, which i believe only works for 9s and then the rest of match you play with only 3 perks.

  • WesCravenFan

I am trying to imagine any perk in the game that lets you "win" by having it and nothing is coming to mind.

The closest I can think of is Dead Hard, and that is literally on a free character.

I got 6/7 full pages of perks and not once I paid for a DLC.

I got them from the shrine of secrets and leveling up free to get characters.

To be fair we live in the world of I want it now with out doing anything for it.. Shrine of secrets is not the most reliable but can give you perks you need.. I use it for killer perks because the thought of going through the process of leveling all my killers like I did my survivors makes me just want to quit. I know they are thinking about the grind and will do something just hoping it is soon.

    Pay to lose*

You can earn most things through in game currency and the strongest killer is free.

But you can Buy ash and be the loudest survivor if youd like

  • Pukenplag
    Pukenplag Member Posts: 1,454

Pay to win means you can pay to gain an advantage. Unlocking things MUCH faster is an advantage.

The shrine of secrets is pure garbage. 48 perks are from the base game characters, while another big chunk is from unlockable characters, and only a small portion is license perks.

Look at DS: it hasn't been in the shrine for 4 months. Any new player that joined just after it left has been waiting for 4 months already to unlock ds, and they might as well need to wait a whole new year, based on luck (or should I say, lack of it?)

This is so wrongnits actually funny.

I'm playing on a new account on my ps5. Went from Xbox to PC and now PS5.

On my PS account, I have used actual currency to purchase one survivor (Ash). I have all the survivor perks I really want or need between all of the default available.

For killer, on Xbox I was a Ghostface main but when I switched to PC and PS, I picked up Hag. Still playing here, still doing well enough.

Though I will say I wish we had cross progression

I think you got it backwards there mate.

Pay to win is giving you the advantage to of winning by paying, just as i explained.

You buy something that isn't available in the game by normal gameplay.

Say for example a perk for a killer that increases your movement speed by 20% and gives you the ability to insta down every survivor you hit.

Or for survivor same concept but makes it so the killer has to hit you an additional 2 times before you go down.

That there my friend is the concept of pay to win.

Dbd doesn't have a concept like that, yes they have a massive grind concept, but not a pay 2 win one.

Yes the shrine of secrets it's a matter of waiting for a certain perk to arrive, but it will come there and you are not forced to buy it with real money.

Sure you can buy the DLC with real money, but no one is forcing you to do so cause you can win just as easy without the dlc as with it.

The reason you must buy licensed dlc with real money is due to the fact that the license holder has to be paid, that goes for every game that has license characters in the game.

No killer, survivor or perks in DBD will guarantee you wins when you buy it.

Yes some perks are really good or strong if you want to argue, but still they don't guarantee you the win if you buy them early.

  • Pukenplag
    Pukenplag Member Posts: 1,454

So you are telling me that getting stuff faster isn't an advantage, my friend?

My friend, if you, my friend, can pay to unlock an op item that otherwise you could only get through let's say 200 hours of gameplay, isn't that pay to win?

By your logic my friend if they add an item that costs 100K iri shards that allows you to press e to automatically kill everyone/escape, but you can also get it with real money, it isn't pay to win, because you, my friend, can still get it through playing.

  • Dennis_van_eijk
    Dennis_van_eijk Member Posts: 1,704

Were is such an item in dbd?

Yes unlocking things faster by paying is an advantage but, and yes there is a but, everything can be unlocked by just playing the game.

There is not an OP item, perk, killer or survivor in this game, so there is no pay to win.

You can play without perks and win, you can play with perks and win.

You can use nurse and win or you can play Myers and win.

You can play Nea and win or you can play Lori and win.

Nothing in this game will guarantee you a win over others who don't buy it.

I already explained 2 times now what pay to win means and that DBD is not a pay to win game, if you want the explanation then just read my previous comments

Friends, the way I see it is if Dead by Daylight was truly pay to win, why is there not the option to buy bloodpoints? Where is the option to buy Killer/Survivor packs with random teachables/add ons/items and the chance at a rare skin that isn't available elsewhere? When can I purchase the express pass to shorten queue times and match with lower MMR opponents? How can I get a new account and get my beloved Ace Visconti fully perked out without playing the game?

Yes, there is a massive grind and, if you want to be a completionist, there are some options to pay to reduce it but to call it pay to win is hyperbole designed to anger people. If Dead by Daylight is pay to win, then Civilization is pay to win because they have DLC. Those DLCs have certain characters and powers that could be really good and you can't even unlock those by grinding in game. Dark Souls III is pay to win because there are certain weapons only found in the DLC that could help with PvP (plus possible experience farming areas to help with leveling up).

There is a difference between having DLC and being P2W.

    Valik Member Posts: 1,274

    You grind the good perks.

And if you want to get to high MMR, you have to grind anyway.

    Also, i

    It's not even a full $60 - Chapters are only $7 U.S.

The game is $20. If you can't find the pocket change to get the Texas Chainsaw DLC for BBQ - you have bigger fish to fry than worrying about the game's grind.
