New MMR Changes
This is just my own personal experience. I started playing Killer and Survivor again during the recent MMR tests because I can't rightly criticize the system if I'm not willing to try to fix it. I continued to play once it was confirmed that changes were implemented, this is my experience.
As Killer:
My matches before the MMR changes were very hit or miss. Sometimes, they were incredibly sweaty and extremely unfun. Other times, the Survivors were clearly below my skill level. Post-MMR changes, it feels like the first few weeks of MMR. It is consistently awful and sweaty. This is the least fun I've ever had with a video game. Likewise, my queue times as Killer have gone up for some reason. They used to be instant to 20 seconds, now they're anywhere from instant to 2 minutes.
As Survivor:
Extremely long queues. Upwards of 10 minutes prior to MMR changes. Matches were completely random. Sometimes we faced a certain well-known Nurse player, other times we faced a Killer with one perk. Post-MMR changes, we have not won a SINGLE match. Every game is filled with horrible teammates and good Killers. The only game I escaped was a facecamping Bubba who just barely didn't get me with NOED. Queue times are still past 10 minutes, our longest queue was 14 and our shortest was 8.
All in all, my Killer games are unplayable so I'm not going to be continuing with that, I'm giving my feedback and quitting, as it were. As for Survivor, my SWF is getting fed up with constantly getting stomped, horrific teammates, camping Bubba's, hard tunneling Killers and two of them are pretty much at wits end with the game.
My suggestions? If you aren't up to admitting MMR was a mistake, dedicate your resources to fixing the game at a fundamental level. That includes camping, tunneling, gen rushing ect. These are all extremely unfun parts of the game that have NEVER been addressed and will need to be if MMR stays.

I don't feel any difference since the MMR changes. Honestly the changes are not even really big because the core MMR "win" issue is still the same. The main problem that people complained about was not adressed, just tweeking some numbers. That's it.

I'd love if you could edit in your region server and the time you played. I havent played since the changes yet so I cant comment (probably try it in a few days). My games as killer definitely couldn't get worse though

NA East and all over the place.

My Killer matches became FAR sweatier, so whatever they did seems to have sent my Killer games into hell itself.
My Survivor games could be bad luck. It would be weird, but it could just be luck. It seems unlikely though.
Either way, it's pretty clear most people aren't enjoying the game.

Appreciate it! If I remember I'll come back and share my experience as I'll be EU off peak. My expect outcome is easier killer or just as horrible as normal and survivor can only get worse teammates so will be interesting

I have had enough Urban Claudettes and Megheads for the rest of my life.
3 -
What about crossplay?

My survivor experience has been the same as yours. I'm not sure whether it's the double xp weekend and maybe all the people playing have thrown things out of whack, but I'm going to see if it's still the same during the week. Killers have been really skilled, my chase times have become woeful, and I'm getting terrible team mates leaving me until second hook. It's definitely been an off weekend.

I gave another chance after the blog post to try the new changes, quit the same day, is sad to know that i have all the killers and can't play them and survivor is too boring for me to play more than 2 games a day, but yeah same experience as before, sweaty killers and useless randoms
2 -
EU, playing survivor anywhere between 07:00-17:00, playing Killer anywhere between 17:00-22:00.
Both Survivor and Killer que times are fast, at maximum 1-2 minutes. Outside of those times, they increase to 5 or even 5+ minutes.
Survivor games are an absolute abomination, almost every single game the Killer is significantly more experienced than me or my teammates and even if we do a couple of gens, the only escape is a lucky hatch one. I started at Silver 3 1pip yesterday morning and now I'm Silver 3 0 pip.
Killers games are as sweaty as always, even if I have slightly less experienced survivors that go down without making to multiple loops the gens fly by, though admittedly, I don't tunnel. If I snowball, I usually 3/4k, otherwise my average is 1 kill if I find a survivor that's on death hook.
TLRD: SoloQ is noticeably worse, Killer is about the same.

Well they tightened the search ranges but also lowered the soft cap which means anyone who was already at the soft cap won't see much difference (aka sweatfest) but if you were somewhat below it you're now more likely to encounter the sweaty SWF/Blight/Nurses because they don't want them to wait in queue too long.
0 -
You might be sitting around the soft cap.
I'll say that while the skill of my opponents didn't seem to change too much after the fix, it's definitely been more consistent on both ends. Note: I dodge all 'ready to go' lobbies due to the backfill issue.

Yes, I have it on.
Turning it off sent me into a 45 minute queue back in December 0_0
0 -
I hadn't considered the 2x XP weekend affecting things.
0 -
Yeah, Survivor has been getting steadily less enjoyable.
An abomination is a pretty apt description
2 -
That's brutal.
Do you notice a difference when queuing up as solo Vs swf? That might be another possibility.
1 -
Not any consistent differences.
0 -
My queues are longer and more sweaty.
I don't know how BHVR did MMR worse lol
5 -
New mmr will just adjust to the new stats and we will be back where we started.
They failed.
5 -
People thought mmr tests would be something actually substantial and would require effort. You know, change how it is calculated. All they did was shuffle some numbers and call it a day.
4 -
Well they didn't change the actual system in terms of what makes players skillful.
In time the SBMM will adjust to what is was before the change. If they really wanted to change how it works they need new criteria instead of just escapes/kills.
I'm still in belief a grade system is better if you remove resets, safety pips and then give killers separate grades
1 -
They can make a million tests for MMR but nothing will change. Because problem is not MMR, it never was.
Problem is "balance". Game did not balance around good survivors. Most of killers are not viable becuz of that. They need to focus on balance and fix but no. Let's waste our time with MMR.
Yeah, this makes game almost unplayable. My mmr is pretty low on survivor, i can not play game as solo anymore. I am just playing survivor with my friends now for having chance.
As killer, more wins = more sweaty survivors. I am not against facing with good survivors. They are challange. But most maps are ridiculous.
We are not playing against Meg who is dropping every pallet without looking behind or Claudette who is healing at corners of map. We are playing against survivors that who knows how to loop. But game is balanced around this Meg and Claudette.
7 -
Who decides what is balanced though? The current iteration of the game is what the dev's perceive as balanced because of some useless non contextual number sitting near 50%
I know people won't like it, but they need to hire streamers that play both sides and can show evidence of the issues with their solution and put it to a vote. Then they need to pretend console doesn't exist for a while and update PC only so they can do fast tests to see what works and what doesn't.
AFAIK they need to pay sony/ microsoft per update and that is what slowed everything down.
You can't balance a game you don't understand by looking at numbers.

I'm assuming you have several thousands of hours in the game.
The MMR is supposed to be better for the average player. Both extremes may have a worse experience.
I'm planning to go back to the game after the next patch but now I feel I'd be better off progressing on my accumulated games queue.
0 -
There is no new MMR. Its still the same garbage as implemented. Grades are just hidden, thats all.
2 -
MMR doesnt work for me either. My random mates are still getting dumb and dumber. I play with people running to my hook in threes, even though Bubba is facecamping me and I'm using Kindred. People who destroy totems and loot chests and don't touch a single gen until the killer has at least 6 hooks. People running in a loop in pairs and cockblocking each other. People who are getting chased for 10 sec., refusing to drop pallets or jumping fulllife into a locker. It is hard to escape with those big brains. They are more of an imposter than a survivor.
On the killer side Im lowering my MMR here and there, cuz I refuse to sweat every single match. That means I dont kill more than 2 persons. This is the only way for me to hav fun. I don't play after 9 p.m. because I only meet Chuck Norris and friends anyway, although my MMR shouldn't actually be that high. Camping and tunneling is the only way to win against those teams.

They had such a great game years ago, why they're on the verge of throwing it away is beyond me.

I’m pretty sure you aren’t “most people” based on your post count and presumably extremely high MMR. What you’re describing is basically the matchmaking putting you against equally skilled survivors versus random people when you are a very high level killer. That’s a good thing in fact, it’s just apparently you don’t like the high level meta as much as playing totally random weaker players.
So it’s not MMR that’s the problem, it’s shaking up the meta at high level play. Address a couple of things like Dead Hard and buff some of the still too weak killer perks to make more loadouts more effective at high level play and that would probably address your issues.
2 -
High post counts mean Pulsar spends more time on the forums than in DBD 😃 At least that's the case for me at the moment 😅
1 -
Glad it's not just me who noticed. I didn't even realize something was happening with the MMR (busy irl), but I'm not surprised. I play once a week now. Yesterday evening was just abysmally miserable in Solo Q. My trend was the same as yours; matched with team mates who didn't seem to know what they're doing, and the Killer is obviously very experienced.
One match I was the fourth lobbied with a 3 man SWF ALL running No Mither (I would have lobby dodged, but put the dog out before I saw their very similar names). They lasted a combined total of 5 minutes. I didn't touch a gen. I was running from hook to hook saving them as they couldn't even wait until the Killer left the area to save each other. Total sh*show.
On the end screen, in many of my matches, I outscored my team mates by well over 12k Bloodpoints. Insane. It's not a boast. I'm not a great survivor. I'm competent, I'm a good team player, but I'm not going to be making a channel showing off my skills anytime soon LOL.
So yeah. Something is completely messed up.
4 -
Lol, maybe but I seriously suspect Pulsar is a top tier killer. Just a hunch. 😉
(P.S. And I only play a couple matches a night so I probably spend more time on the forums than in the game myself.)
1 -
MMR worked best for me when it was rank based. I've had the most fun matches in the green and purple ranks.
5 -
I'm pretty sure Pulsar is. I can also absolutely understand that Pulsar doesn't want to play at High MMR. If you play Killer with the intention to win (3-4 kills), then you won't be able to avoid sweating. Even if you win such matches, it's usually not fun. That's why I also lower my MMR by killing a maximum of two survivor (and I only play at certain times). Otherwise I wouldn't want to play Killer anymore.
0 -
It's gonna take a lot more than that to fix
0 -
Yeah, to be fair to Pulsar, I’m not trying to tell him he’s “wrong if he isn’t having fun”. Him having fun is totally subjective. And I can definitely understand if he doesn’t enjoy high level meta play, a lot of people complain about it being a bit stale. My point is just that it isn’t MMR that’s causing him not to have fun, though, it’s that he doesn’t enjoy that meta. MMR is actually fine, he honestly should be facing higher skill players most of the time. Whether he actually likes even matchups is a different question.
3 -
I agree totally, but as others have said on this thread the main issue is with the MMR mechanics the changes have changed it a bit, however it is the core problem making the game unenjoyable and in some cases unplayable.
0 -
I am a terrible Survivor. Like, seriously awful. If I have high Survivor MMR, we should burn the system down.
3 -
When I was playing a lot I would spend my queue time on the forums so that's basically right
0 -
I have played in the same lobby as Otz and Hens, needles to say I'm the Meghead going down in 10 seconds in compilation videos, so I have absolutely no clue how I've climbed my way up there. Especially since I keep getting sweaty nurses and blights annihilating my random soloq teams.
1 -
I gave it a go.
Havent played game since january or so.
My personal opinion of dbd in single word. trash.
4 -
I'm rather torn on even match-ups. On the one hand, it's some of the least fun I've ever had in a video game. It's absolutely miserable but I'm still 3K'ing in 85% of my matches. Winning isn't the issue, it's that even though I am winning it's miserable.
On the other hand though, I don't feel right de-ranking to purposefully ruin other people's matches. I will absolutely not do that to someone else.
3 -
I played against Tofu a couple times recently.
Needless to say, I did not perform very well.
0 -
As already said.
One of the main problems is the MMR score on kills/escapes.
The system may match perfectly but your MMR score doesn´t reflect your actual skill in the game. So the matching can be completely irrelevant.
They wrote that the team result should be taken into account. That maybe creates better results.

I pretty much stopped playing more than say 2 or 3 matches a month but tonight I decided to play a few games in a row.
I have to say so far my games have been far more enjoyable than they were before I stopped playing. I feel like I am getting a mix of both gods and potatoes as team mates and also as opponents when playing killer.
Overall I think the changes have improved the game, a pleasant surprise
0 -
As killer, since the MMR changes I've mostly had matches that felt too easy, with a couple balanced games mixed in and one where the survivors were significantly better than me, except I still got a 3k because they hard threw at the end.
I didn't notice any significant difference as survivor on the first day of the changes, but the second day was way worse. Pretty much every match (with the exception of two games which felt reasonably balanced) either featured decent killers and bad teammates, or good teammates and killers that were clearly not on our level and didn't stand a chance of winning (but more of the former). Ironically one of my only escapes on the 2nd day was against a 3-blink Nurse.
Haven't played at all since then and likely done playing for 2.5 weeks or so until after finals are over.

I feel that. Both the finals and miserable Survivor games.
Finals my freshman (and only) year were absolutely brutal for me, good luck!
0 -
How are you winning though? Its easy if you focus down two people or camp and tunnel. Have you tried going for 12 hooks?
0 -
Thanks, hope you get some better survivor matches in the meantime
0 -
I think I average 10 or 11 hooks per trial.

Even with legion?
