MMR is still so bad.
MMR is individual to each killer, right? I just played the clown maybe for third time ever and got a super try-hard SWF with expert flashlight use, deep map knowledge, and incredible coordination. I get how I can face those teams with my Artist or Doctor, but that shouldn't be happening on killers I have practically never played.
Btw, it's not just that people aren't playing. I live in Japan and we are on the middle of Golden Week. Lots of folks online, and I am getting quick matches. But wildly bad ones.

Nothing new, SBMM has always been bad, my hope is that at the anniversary stream they finally announce that is getting removed

MMR has been a ######### up since release. Not to say ranks were good but why make a new system if it’s basically just as bad?

A couple things to keep in mind:
The softcap was lowered quite a bit with the most recent MMR update.
Your lowest killer MMR is going to hang around 200 points of your highest. Even if your highest killer MMR is average-ish 1500 and your Clown MMR is 1300, that puts you well within the 350 range of survivors near the 1700 softcap.
Which is why I kind of chuckle when players bring up matchmaking. What matchmaking? There's almost no functional difference between being at the top percentile of players and being completely average. You're going to be matched with the same players.

It's awful. I took a long break from DbD and recently returned and as a killer main, I just can't play the game. It's absolutely miserable. Just nothing but sweaty, toxic survivors, clicking flashlights, infinitely healing (thanks to CoH) and DHing, teabagging and gen tapping so ######### all my regression perks. It 100% sucks. BHVR has killed the killer experience.

That’s not quite right, the devs confirmed a bit ago that while your initial setting for a killer you haven’t played is based on your average ratings from your other killers, from that point on each killer MMR does change independently of each other. So if like the original poster you’ve only played Clown 3 times you starting MMR will be on par with your other killers, but the more you lose the lower it will go, it won’t “hover”.

If it goes from 0-1700 wouldn't 1300 be on the high side rather than average?

nothing feels different between any of my killers.
I literally had never played Twins until this week, matches do not feel any different than killers I 4k with regularly

It doesn't go from 0. When MMR first permanently launched, a fresh account started at 1200

Another reason is that the game lacks killers. So if a killer isn't available for a group of survivors, they will throw an inexperienced killer their way regardless of mmr, and they'll get bullied.

The MMR has become worse since the last changes a few days ago.
That changes only benefict the top players, but the mid MMR killers are put against tryhard squads too frequently.
I expect more changes and I hope the devs see this problem in the global results.
In fact, the streamer I follow, which have 9000 hours have way more relaxing games now because of the reduction of the top cap and put against worst survivors than him.
Sumarizing: The last MMR changes benefict 1% of the player base and harms the 99% of the player base (at least in killer side).

funny enough, I didn't have a problem with MMR until the last decision they made with the tests and stuff.
I even defended the system here on this forum, but now I get it, every match is the same
Dead Hard, Adrenaline, DS, BOON, Unbreakable.
The strategy don't change either, you can be sure when you down a survivor, you'll have the 3 other body blocking the hooks. Every match is the same. It wasn't like this before the last changes.
This will be the first month since I started playing the game I won't be getting rank 1 cause I'm bored with the same thing over and over.

The MMR is so functionally broken (and has been ever since it was introduced), that there is no meaningful distinction between a completely randomized matchmaking and SBMM.

The low-quality MMR has only gone downhill. I didn't think it was possible from where it already was, but my Solo Q games yesterday opened my eyes to just how much its quality has actually gone down. I understand getting new, inexperienced, trolls, or just flat-out bad players every few matches, but now it's almost every game. Getting paired with people constantly d/c'ing on first down/hook, or just killing themselves and they don't have a queue of their own, nah they get put right into your games. BHVR hides player ranks too so now the one in-game thing that you could at least sort of use as a measurement for how long someone has played is gone. It's almost as if the system doesn't even try to filter out anything in this survivor cesspool.

He makes some really good points in this. There is no "high MMR" where every survivor is a god. It's just as much of a mix in skill as any other MMR bracket. If someone is actually hundreds of points above the softcap and into the 2000s, they most likely feel like there's little challenge in terms of skill. There are always one or two survivors who are extremely out of place in that match. Not to mention, there is a massive difference between someone sitting around 1650 and someone at 2000. Those two players are not at all the same.
MMR hasn't suddenly made the game competitive. It's just as uncompetitive as it has always been at the public match level. Whoever wants to win will usually win if they use the right tactics and loadout. It's actually my main complaint on the survivor side. If you're going to rate me, then match me with players around my rating. Don't match me with a player who doesn't look behind them and is only there to cleanse dulls.

Funny thing about this thread. Guys, I know the problem is MMR. Because I didnt have this problem before the MMR changes. Now I do. It is genuinely puzzling why so many folks here spend so much time and energy trying to convince me that the simple explanation isn't true (or that it's all somehow in my head). I guess I could understand the reaction from the developers, but they aren't reading or replying. Seriously, Yiu can just tell me, "Huh. I don't have that problem" or "I have a different problem" and it's fine. You don't have to monopolize every conversation into making it about your thing. Truly.

MMR is working great. The last test run with the bilateral changes were a big success. I'm Iri 1 and most of my matches are really fun. Now this varies greatly on time of day and weekday vs weekend because you can't expect the player pool to be filled with the same kinds of players 24/7 and sometimes I'll get a group that just was not prepared for a killer like me in any way but that only happens occasionally,
I'm seeing a wider variety to matches than before but in a good way.
I think these videos are a good watch because I think the whining about MMR is overblown and people use it as an excuse the second they have a bad match.

I understand the matchmaking for an asymmetrical game like this can be complex but surely it cant be that hard to keep brand new players separated from players like myself with thousands of hours, it makes for bad gaming experience for all concerned, when i was a new player back in 2018 for the most part i was with my fellow noobs having a blast getting to learn and play the game

So what you're saying is that people that practically play the game for a living with multiple thousands of hours who have extensive experience with matchmaking going over the actual technical results of the SMMR tests, and speaking to how its less the matchmaking system and more the perks in play can't possibly have actual insight into these systems?
Your lived experience is what it is. You just lack objectivity.

I have about 2,000 hours in the game. About 1,700 of it is Survivor (solo queue), and about 300 is in Killer. I don't enjoy playing killer at all. My experiences playing killer before MMR were dreadful, but now? They're even worse. I get that I have a lot of hours in the game, but my killer is pretty mediocre, and I don't have that much time in it either. I'm consistently going against survivors who are so much better than me, and it's not fun constantly getting stomped all the time, so I don't play it anymore.

Btw, not that I buy into your whole "argument to authority" thing, but did you actually listen to Dowsey on this? He fully admits that mid level players are going to get fed to higher level ones because the developers think it increases enjoyment for the higher level players and the mid-level ones are less likely to quit than newbies because of it. Your own source says this, man.

I find that it comes and goes in waves, as always. But I certainly hit a definite wall at a some point, and any kill I get is going to very sweaty for a while.

MMR feels... reversed. With killers I play all the time (Slinger, Twins, Bubba), I'm mostly playing against baby survivors that crouch in corners, dead hard into walls, let teammates die on first hook, never do gens, never drop pallets, ect, ect. Needless to say, I usually kill them all unless it's one of those huge maps where you lose simply because each survivor spawned on a separate continent, or some map with many god pallets or safe areas.
With killers I hardly play at all... not gonna say it's sweat squads, 'cause it's not. But it's usually SERIOUSLY good survivors playing efficiently. I want to play against top-tier survivors as Slinger, not as Clown or Pig. I want a reasonable match, not "perkless M1 killer vs multiple BNPs."

Yes, and he also says while it was not an unmitigated success things are going in the right direction and overall the changes are good. I didn't say it was perfect, but the new bilateral changes are a huge improvement. Things are going in the right direction.

MMR is sadly too random. I sometimes lobby dodge as killer to have a more chilling experience ( i dont sweat for kills often and only against annoying swfs) and i some how get different groups. Its kind of odd and probably shouldn't be a thing (hence how the sbmmr still too volatile. Ill say though its way better then before... only few more tweaks are needed and id take the wait time hit if its needed (and i think the sbmmr needs it as quicker games mean more blow outs)
However, this could be a situation where swfs should be treated as teams and be in a separate que.... because it really all comes down to the swfs and not.. but then this splits the playerbase. Yeah its kinda tricky
