Caught another console hacker (need advice)
I just happened to be streaming when it happened so I'm waiting for my stream to end before I clip the occurrence. It was an SWF but only one of them was low-key hacking. First I noticed that they were extremely fast which I chalked up to perks, but then two gens popped simultaneously when three Survivors were being chased (another red flag). Finally, the one survivor walked right behind a very thin tree and disappeared. There were no structures around and I searched thoroughly even in the two nearby lockers. I'll upload the clip in a bit, but I want to go through all of the proper channels to make sure this person gets banned. Any guidance would be appreciated.

If they are on console then they cannot be banned I am afraid, as the support team will likely think that you are lying as cheating on console is not possible. The person you played against most likely was a PC player who happened to get into console cross play.

I'm trying to organize the clip so that everyone can see the Survivor visibly vanish. He's still messaging me on PSN just laughing.

I tried my best to get it up here. The actual chase to watch is at the 30 second mark. Shortly after, you'll see he disappears.
1 -
OK, I see it, but how do you know they are from console?
1 -
See the way he's sliding across the ground and bounces off the tree? You lagged out and so when the server finally managed to tell you were they actually were they "teleported" to compensate.
Its not a hacker, its your internet being #########.
10 -
It's not my internet. He literally vanished and he's bragging in my PSN messages about doing it to Bubba's.
0 -
It's whatever at this point. I submitted a ticket to Behavior and I also sent the clip to PSN. If Behavior doesn't ban him, PSN will do it for sure.
0 -
Sorry bro, but that was totally your wifi. At the top it's literally red, not to mention you can see him switching around for a split second. He probably is pretending to hack for attention. Or, he somehow made you lag.
3 -
That's your WI-FI, I think.
You can even see your Network Connection warning (iirc) go off in the top left.
She wasn't cheating.
2 -
Nobody is going to convince me that this guy wasn't hacking. His entire gameplay was SUS and I don't like that this issue is being downplayed. This is why so many people have been getting away with low-key cheating on console. Let's call it what it is, an exploit. Even if by some miracle it was true and he did make me lag, there would have been visible scratch marks in the area, not to mention that it's very easy to hear a survivor breathing.
2 -
That was his friend messaging me about tunneling. My PSN messages won't show during a stream. And I'd be more inclined to believe it was my Wifi if the dude didn't brag about doing it to Bubba's.

Look in your upper left corner during that time frame. That's a ping indicator and at white it means 150+ ping and red is 300+ ping. Your internet had a hiccup for a few moments which is why that happened.
2 -
That red symbol means your ping is over 300 ms iirc. That's extremely high and it's a miracle you didn't get forcibly disconnected.
Considering that you basically just told someone else that you weren't gonna listen to them and that you were right full stop, I think I'm done here. They aren't cheating.

Thanks for uploading a video though. Not enough of these are posted when people talk about hackers. I like seeing proof.
It's good to see what people think is hacking or when it's just a mistake.

You can cheat on console but it is not something casual as it is on PC.
1 -
I've never had this problem on DBD before. I've also never seen someone just disappear the way he did. The fact that it was during a chase is extremely SUS not to mention that he was standing next to a tree.
0 -
Exactly. Sony takes it very seriously from my understanding because it goes against their TOS. If someone is hacking on a console, it means that they bypassed the actual system which is a big no-no.
0 -
I get entire games of 1100 ping, I really wish the game would kick me out on those days
0 -
Same here. I'm still convinced that he was outright cheating since he was bragging about it in my PSN inbox (specifically he says that he targets Bubba's). It's possible that he lag-switched me as well to make it look like a connection issue. This has never happened to me before and I've never seen anyone just disappear.
0 -
I'm not sure how the ping works but I also know that Lag-switching was a very common form of cheating (it's happened to me in the past but not recently).
1 -
Sorry, I missed your comment. He has a PSN profile and was responding back and forth about how he targets Bubba Killers specifically. He sent me screenshots of some of his past matches (which is disgusting).

This plus the connection symbol in the top left corner. This is obvious lag, happens all the time lol
0 -
The problem is that he's bragging about cheating. I'm not sure why he would lie about something like that.
0 -
Well if you're taking the word of a cheater as truth, then I don't know what to say about that, but I will say this-- If someone accuses me of wallhacking or lagswitching or if some bizarre anomaly not of my doing, happened in game... I'll "admit" to it 100% just for fun. It's not hard to be convincing if the other party even remotely suspects something.
0 -
With the clip you've shown, yeah nah thats just you having a bad connection. You even have the little indicator at the top left
1 -
I saw the clip it looks sketchy, but as someone else pointed out u cant hack on console
0 -
So I get from the other comments that this was mostly a lag issue, but I have actually had legit cheaters in my games before, only I've always seen that they were PC players... So my question is, is it actually possible to hack on console as well?
Because I assumed that was exclusive to PC, and if not, I've given far too much credit to some folks who I was suspicious of in the past...

"Dissappearing behind a tree" doesn't really fit with any cheats.
It does fit with what happens when you're lagging.
It's more easily seen in the chase a bit earlier than that, where the survivor runs into a wall and just keeps running in the spot, then all of a sudden 'teleports' around the corner.
Because your ping is so high, the game doesn't have regular up to date information about where the survivor is and whats they're doing, so it's just assuming they're going in the same direction they were in the last dara packet received and extrapolating that route.
In reality, the survivor wasn't running into the wall at all, they were always running around it, but you only received information about there movement briefly before and after they encountered that wall.
Likewise, the survivor likely never even ran behind that tree at all, but the trajectory they were going in at your last received data packet would have put them there.
The game 'caught up' at the moment they appeared to run behind the tree on your screen, and their actual location was updated.

It's TECHNICALLY possible, but you'd have to mess with the console itself which is a big no no for Microsoft and Sony. They take it very seriously on newer-gen hardware.
For the amount of time and effort you would need to put in, it's not close to worth it. You run the risk of being reported with evidence, detected by whatever anti-cheat BHVR has AND via Microsoft or Sony.
Theoretically possible, but completely impractical.
Lagswitching IS possible and far more practical on console than big time cheating. DDoS is also very common and pretty much foolproof.
3 -
It's the wifi. The same thing happened to me when I was playing blight. The survivor and my wifi were really far away for each other
It's impossible for console players to hack. The red circle above the left hand side proves it was WiFi.
1 -
Agreed. Between this guy's messages, etc. I'm still betting on lag-switching. The lag-switching hasn't happened to me in a long time so I didn't assume it at first, but I'm finding it hard to believe that it only occurred with this specific player AFTER he realized that the flashlight wasn't going to do anything.
1 -
Despite what some people say, yes it's 100% possible but it comes with a lot of risks and penalties. Sony would have the individual(s) banned in a matter of hours and that would be the least of the cheaters' worries assuming they aren't fined.
Part of the issue is that some people jump on the "No it's impossible to cheat/ hack on console" bandwagon and it downplays the seriousness of the issue. It's rare but it does occur. From my understanding, lag-switching is possible on console and a much more likely scenario because it's harder to prove even with a recording.
Take my scenario for instance. The player is a PSN user but between the video and his inbox messages with him bragging about purposely targeting Bubba Killers, it's very likely that he did something (why would anyone brag about it if it wasn't true?) I've had issues with lag-switching in the past when coming into contact with only specific survivors. You'd have to watch the entire game on my Twitch but that Red Icon only appeared once during that entire match. It was after I started chasing this one survivor and shortly after he noticed that the flashlight wouldn't have any effect. Almost any other scenario and I would agree that I had a connection issue but the timing was far too convenient. Again, the dude is still messaging me even now. At this point, I'm just saving all of his messages for evidence if this goes anywhere.

In my two years playing, I've had more issues with being Lag-Switched than DDos-ed. The DDos has occurred at least twice and it pretty much locked me out of the game for 24 hours but that was over one year ago. I've had less issues after turning off cross-play but some people make it their life to find loopholes on different platforms.
Imagine going into a match and being targeted specifically for the Killer you chose. Imagine getting death threats just because you chose to play Insidious Bubba and didn't allow an SWF squad to bully you. And forget about the messages if they notice you have Lightborn...

I'll take a look, but it's entirely possible he was just trolling you when he said what he said.
3 -
Cheating on console is possible but HIGHLY not worth it as the respective console company can just disable your console from getting online services.
0 -
Much appreciated. I wish more players had your level of common sense instead of just dismissing it. I'll be the first to admit if I was wrong.
0 -
Like others have said, this doesn't look like cheating, but there are sometimes players who have the globe next to their name who are cheating. I would guess they are Epic Store players?
0 -
He's definitely on PSN but it's possible that he's lag-switching. I submitted a ticket just so Behavior can look into it.
0 -
It's your internet.
2 -
That's what I say , if you're on a wifi connection then it's definitely the problem, console hacking is impossible specifically with this game because it involves modding files that Sony or Microsoft can immediately detect don't belong when you go to boot the game up and they will hardware ban your console from logging in to the game, this isn't the old COD days where you could mod things and then reuse it on a flash drive it doesn't work like that anymore because they got smarter about that and you have to wipe the drive to get on a PC because it has to reformat, I'd say this guy had a situation where he was on wifi and the ping was already not so hot that's really all it takes to have some crazy looking problems in this game

What can I do to address this issue in the future? I recently changed providers so my internet has been pretty good.
0 -
I would get a wired connection to your router, no matter how you slice it a wired connection will always be better than wifi when playing games that rely on consistent connection to a server, that alone should solve the problem but you should also run internet tests and make sure you're getting what speed you pay for because companies are notorious for throttling your speeds, if you have downloads going in the background or updates then stop them when playing the game and always make sure you have sufficient space on your system because it runs better when there's less on there so if you have unused games you don't play anymore delete them and reinstall later when you want to play again, as a last resort on consoles you can look up internet settings and manually adjust connection settings that other users claim gives them faster speeds

Hackers can fake what system they are on. I ran against one last week that was legitimately teleporting everywhere, ended up being a bot killer. Showed up as an XBox player, but you can't program or use 3rd party programs to cheat on console. But hackers and spoof what system they are playing on.
