The reporting system in DBD is THE WORST I've seen in ANY online game
It's embarrassingly poor.
Sometimes I forget for a few days, but back to back to back cheaters (no recordings, so you know, no punishments) reminds me of why things are in the state they're in.
The onus is on ME, the consumer/player, to PROVE to BHVR that someone cheated in their own game that apparently has anti-cheat AFTER reporting them IN-GAME? Cringeworthy.
Instead of providing constant excuses and spaghetti-code memes, add actual checks and balances that prevent people from blatantly cheating.
At this point, and with the frequency I'm facing, I get the feeling that they just don't care T_T

you forgot one thing. It doesnt work. Those few buttons are dummy.

It's completely defunct. Never on any other game I've played have I seen a report system that required you to record your own evidence and then send it externally. Like I've never seen a game that didn't have the tools to see what was happening on its own platform. From card games to MMOs, that's just not a thing; it goes unspoken that you're able to do your own housekeeping and track what players are doing. And the inefficacy of using the in-game report function isn't even transparent, so players don't realize they're just yelling into the void when they report anything other than chat offenses using the in-game system, or that they're actually expected to be doing something else, unless they're active on the game's social media communities.
This is a big part of the reason there's such a hacker issue in this game - you can play 100 games while cheating blatantly, and you might get 200 reports out of it, but each and every one of those 200 reports will be thrown away unless someone takes external action (which the vast majority players either don't understand they need to do, don't have or know how to run the necessary programs, or just can't be assed to go through that much legwork for something that happens over and over again.) That the game isn't able to verify this stuff internally is embarrassing enough on its own, but people should be flagged for further investigation if they rack up enough reports in a short enough period of time and this really doesn't seem to be the case. Every player is bound to get the occasional report for cheating from confused or salty opponents, but if someone gets fifty reports for cheating in one day, they're probably cheating, and should at the very least get moved up in the queue.

The mods on the forums say otherwise. Say they’ll only review reports if done in-game. But yeah, not my job to police their game for them.

Facts. I've legit never ran across a more incompetent system. BHVR should be embarrassed and let that motivate them to do MUCH better because they aren't even doing the bare minimum at this point.

Don't forget that their "report" system is literally non existent if you are on console. When I run into a cheater, I have to save the game footage, upload it to Youtube, go to my channel, pull the video, go to DbD, fill out their form and ALSO hope I remembered to record the cheaters in game number ID cause if I didn't I'm screwed, attach the video, only for BHVR to tell me they can't accept the video file.
It happens every time. But hey, wonder what cosmetic recolor set they'll release this week? Obviously that's the priority

I've reported multiple hackers recently the long way on console. I'm still going through with it even though it is a bit time consuming because OhTofu says they actually do ban people with the proper evidence. I upload the video to my generic youtube page and then fill out the additional report on the DbD website after I clicked the in-game report button next to their name. They've responded to my tickets but they won't tell me what they end up doing unfortunately. Wish they would tell us if they banned someone. Anyways I'll keep doing it but yeah it needs to be improved for sure

according to mandy from last year, it only “flags” the match. Yet you need to upload video and fill out the form.
Then again, if as killer you close the hatch. And survivor obviously doesnt escape via exit gates, there is no way to determine if he escaped via teleport or did (s)he got the key from chest. Since items survivors obtained in the game, are not shown in the end game screen.

Yeah I don't record my games because it wrecks my performance which is sad because that means every hacker I meet will be able to go on and keep playing until they happen to run into someone who does record their games.

The extra fun part is that there's a hack to crash your game and/or spam you with text (that renders the button inaccessible) if you try to use the report button, so even if you do record and send in evidence to the support website against someone using such a hack, it'll get discarded because you weren't able to flag the match.
The whole thing is a clusterfuck. The two-part system would be a terrible idea even if it didn't require so much specific effort on the part of the reporters.

CoconutRTS has used Steam game bans to guess if someone was recently banned from DBD. If the hacker is on Steam (most likely), check their Steam profile for a recent game ban. Also, there's a ticket review page that Coconut has shown, maybe you could find and review that every so often?

How can you search for someone's profile? Can't you just constantly change your Steam profile name? I'm on console...

If you are on console, you can try to look up the person's current Steam nickname and then find their Steam ID. Every Steam account has a... Steam ID, I think, and these numbers never change. This is used for reporting accounts that are hacking.
Ignore the TF2 specific bits and this should suffice, it links to sites like SteamRep which Coconut uses, I believe.
(Sorry staff if this link isn't allowed, it goes to a Steam guide so it's safe)

I believe they tell you to use this 3rd party site to get their Steam ID...
There's no way to know if the "Mr.Sniper21" that you found online is the same "Mr.Sniper21" you were just in a match with, though. There could be hundreds of them...I'm assuming they can use the player ID to differentiate....I hope....

That's a dumb thing to say. It's an issue with all console games having next to no report function, it's not in anyway specific to dbd.
I'd argue that the system works, it's just flooded with toddlers spamming reports against people who press buttons in a way the don't like.

It's literally just there to make you feel good about yourselves. IIRC people who do packetsniffing and reverse engineering stuff found that it doesn't even send back packets to the server.
