Can Thrill of the Hunt and Undying have their abilities back?

Boons have existed for a while, we don't need any more test time with zero possible interruption. Could we get the notification back on Thrill and the auras back on Undying to protect totems? Not just protecting against boons, but hex build would also be less vulnerable again. What do you guys think?

Hex builds are still potentially very powerful, their whole deal is that they're supposed to be high risk, high reward.

my headcanon is that BHVR feared the power of Thrill on Pinhead and Artist

Oh I just meant the aura reading on hex totems. The respawning was busted

I was talking about the aura reading and it was on the normal totems that gave the aura reading.

Well sure it could be a problem with artist but that's just how it is. I think to often people say perk x can't be buffed because killer x but we have 27 killer and if a perk could get a good buff that helps 26 of them but could be problematic with one you change the one killer but that's just my view

To be fair the only reason a lot of perks are held back is because of nurses existence. It's just a matter of not being able to change something beloved without backlash. Like NOED and Dead Hard are terribly designed perks that desperately need changed, but people have already latched onto them, so changing them would be harrd

Old Undying just gave too much info. No reason to show people cleansing your hexes. That was what Thrill did, at the time.

I'm pretty unhappy about the changes to Thrill, but I see why the old version was changed. Like, everybody used Thrill as a hex protection perk (now it's a boon preventer perk), but you still had to cross the map to get to a loud noise notification, and there was counterplay via distracting and even bodyblocking. It would be literally impossible to cleanse a hex against Artist. No matter where she is on the map, she can send birds, and the second bird hit will always knock you off the totem. She can defy bodyblocking by shooting from unpredictable angles or with her Severed Hands addon. There's just way too much power there with Devour Hope or Ruin.

It's not a coincidence that Thrill was changed/nerfed right before Artist came out.

Yes, add aura reading back to Thrill. The change did THOH almost as dirty as pig for EGC.

The only thing I would change about undying is remove the warning that survivors get when their aura is revealed by a dull totem. No other perk besides retribution (which should get the same change imo) does this, but these do presumably because of the cursed status effect. Imagine if BBQ or nurses told the survivor they were active the moment the killer could see them with those perks. This really isn’t any different and can serve as an indicator to survivors that there is something else the killer wants to protect, eg. running it with devour isn’t really worth it since it gives them a clue it might be there, despite the devs removing the token loss restriction it used to have. Besides that Undying is fine the way it is.

And yes as others have already mentioned, the old Thrill of the Hunt would be an issue on the Artist.

    Thrill isn't a Hag perk, it's a generic.

Hag has Devour, Ruin and Third Seal.

Please don't force us to deal with cleansing 3+ hex ruins. Also I like how it works for Devour Hope. So no, thanks.

Thrill of the hunt should honestly just be stripped of the HEX title.

Fixing a broken perk isn’t accomplished by introducing another broken perk.

I wish they would start balancing perks for individual killers. If something would be great for every other killer but make one killer OP then just nerf it when used on that one killer.

The old aura reading on hex totems from undying or the notification from thrill could both come back but would require artist being nerfed.

They really need to be switched and reworked in some way.

Undying's problem is that there's really no reason to take it absent of another Hex perk.

Thrill of the Hunt is much of the same, but even less so.

But how do you rectify this?

Old Undying could have survivors pining for endless minutes as they try to find each and every last totem on the map - how do you punish survivors for cleansing without breaking the game.

Old Thrill Of The Hunt gave killers a situationally unwinnable stalemate as survivors may find themselves unable to cleanse a totem with the slowdown and notifications combined - how do you reward the killer for keeping totems up, and punish survivors for cleansing, without creating unbeatable circumstances?

    You have to get creative.

Undying should make survivors rush around and try to find Hex totems to cleanse, but can't break the game.

Thrill Of The Hunt should make totems a cat-and-mouse game between survivors and killer, making survivors prioritize them to counter a killer advantage.

Here are a couple of examples of where you could go with these perks:

    ~

    Hex: Undying

Description: “A Hex that shares its roots with all other totems in the trial. You will soon force them to realize that every small victory they claimed was actually against their best interest.”

    (Remove the aura reading potential.)

When a hex totem is cleansed, this one is cleansed instead. When a dull totem is cleansed (or blessed), gain 1/2/3% movement speed.

Flavor-text: “‘Sacrifice seems to be a fundamental part of this place’s design, perhaps I can twist that into my favor’ - Journal of Talbot Grimes”

    ~

    Hex: Thrill Of The Hunt

Description: “A Hex rooting its power in despair. Your totems feed your instincts, and those who interfere fall into your deadly sights”

Survivors have their auras revealed while they are within 2/4/6 meters of a totem.

Cleansing speed of all survivors is reduced by 20/25/30%

Flavor-text: “Get back! If you touched it, the beast is already on its way!”

    ~

Hex: Undying... Hear me out on this one. What’s the problem with Undying? Nobody EVER takes Undying unless they have another perk slot that it’s protecting. It’s only viewed as ‘hex insurance’ which makes it both boring - and predictably flat. While it can pack immense value by increasing the survival of your hexes by 20% - it’s otherwise useless. Sometimes it doesn’t have any value in a match - but without a hex perk to compliment it, it is TOTALLY useless. The aura read is better relegated for other perks, as it is a poor match for the use of Undying, as well as its theme. To make Undying worthwhile BOTH when it’s with a hex and when it’s the only hex, you have to make it have a strong passive effect that directs attention to it. By simply giving the killer movement on a dull totem cleanse (or bless) - you can edge out a small buff if survivors dare to touch your totems. In addition, it makes them have to deal with the Hex before they start dropping blessings. It can be strong if survivors ignore the perk, or foolishly cleanse a dull totem early only to reveal the curse - but it’s very limited. While it will generally never see much value, the potential is always there, and will make survivors stop to look for the hex as you go into chases with advantage. It makes it a slightly stronger follow up to other hexes, yes, but it also makes it viable as a stand-alone gamble that can give great chasing potential against the right team, while complimenting the Blight’s rushes as a staple perk.

Hex: Thrill Of The Hunt... This perk has a bad rap. Similar to Undying, it is only useful as a support perk for other totems. However, by reallocating Undying’s aura read to this, it revolutionizes it into a brand new hybrid that changes how Killers and Survivors interact with this perk. Survivors will always know when this perk is active when they try to cleanse a totem – revealing its curse and notifying them that the killer has likely been watching their aura. The 30% speed debuff is nice, as it lends to the traditional intention of Thrill as an anti-cleansing perk. However, the main strength is its combination with the generous and constant Aura read effect. This makes the hex totem a powerful perk that becomes a priority for survivors in the game – once they realize its effect, they will endeavor to cleanse totems to negate the aura reading effect, while also changing how killers treat totems. The Thrill of the Hunt is about maintaining your totems – yes even the dull totems – as they are valuable assets. In high levels of play, the Hex itself is still at risk – but astute killers will always be trying to protect their assets. By bringing this perk, the killer runs the risk of having it cleansed – but while it is up, it adds an entire new level of play around totems that will shake up any match it’s in.

Why not make hex perks relightable like boons? They are supposed to be "high risk, high reward" perks. But in 90% of the matches, 1 or mor hexes are gone within the first minute of the match.

Thrill just shouldn't be a hex, then it would actually be a boon counter. It's currently not good enough to counter boons.

I honestly thought old Undying was fine. Having to cleanse multiple totems was only the worst case scenario, you could just get lucky and get the Undying first. Even if you had to cleanse multiple I don't see how that's an issue when survivors clearly have time to boon over and over and over. Ruin also doesn't do anything unless the killer is actually good at pressuring gens as well.

With undying you still see auras around normal totems, no ?

But why they remove the notification when someone touches your totem with thrill of the hunt ? I mean if the choice was either longer cleanse time or notifications, notifications would be a tad better in my opinion.

    I'll be honest

If i had to choose between the notification or the buff of the slowdown i would choose the slowdown.

Imo thrill is a lot better now then it used to be

Which is also an issue, but I don't know how to fix it without making DMS significantly weaker on every other killer that it isn't a problem on.

giving undying the ability to replace lit boons with cleansed hex's would be a interesting change that would force boon users to be a bit more strategic. For example, if a hex other than undying is cleansed, it either replaces undying, or if a lit boon is up, it replaces that and undying remains intact.

I personally like the idea of keeping Thrill the way it is now, but make it not a Hex perk. Without the notifications it's not that strong anymore, so it shouldn't be (potentially) removable with just one totem done.

True though I haven't experienced this that much. People just need to try and not go down to avoid this as much as possible.

Also I'd rather keep this in the game than nerf DMS.

killers kill boil over because a one spot in one map and only with swf

  • Starrseed
    Starrseed Member Posts: 1,774

It's different if you have a combo that's is really strong on one killer or you have a perk that made it literally impossible to hook a survivor and let the just stall the game.

What I wanted to say is many killers could need a good perk or a good perk combo and if that is a problem on one or two killer we should look into these killer because let's be real it's more likely to get a good perk to help out the weaker killer then to hope they get some buffs

  • Hex_Ignored

undying probably not as it was another anti-soloq perk that didn't cause swfs any trouble; however they could give it back its aura reading on hex totems. Thrill of the hunt could definitely be reverted though.

Thrill of the Hunt isn't one of Hag's teachables, so that's not really a factor here.
