Definitive Dead Hard Rant

There it is. Every single salient point about Dead Hard made, and every single asinine counter argument utterly destroyed and fed to the Entity.

Why this perk is still in the game is a mystery. I can only assume it is because its removal would kill content creators and lose more players. The game has not had a mechanic this busted since old Moris.

I'm so sick of people that respond to every criticism of Dead Hard with "But that would make the perk worthless", as if that would not objectively make the game better. YES. DO IT. Pummel it until it is worse than Technician, for God's sake.

I feel you can make at least 30 Survivor perks viable by just increasing their numbers.

Yes. If you escape. Still make it so that it always gives you two addons

I swear soon we will get a perk like “every time you drop a pallet you gain a token. Every token increases you gen repair speed by 1%. It gets consumed when the killer break a pallet” Useless stuff like that. Why are perks like no mither in this game? What does Buckle up do again? How is visionary any good? Why does autodidact not give you more skill checks. Why does Blastmine have a penalty when working with another teammate on a gen? Why would you use bite the bullet or off the record when you have iron will? Stuff like that. Start buffing the other perks and nerf dead hard

I feel that if DH gets nerfed, so will many top tier killers. DH is brought not only because of its versatility, but because it's a good to counter zoning. I.e a Huntress is about to line up a really tight shot around a corner. Instead of getting downed by a garbage truck hit box after turning a corner, you can dodge it and have a better chase. It's not entirely fair, but it also acts as a band-aid for bad hitboxes/latency. As well as killers like Nurse or Blight. Both of which can zone you out with their mobility and chase ability.

DH is not fair at all and that's not what I'm trying to say. The point I'm making is, if people are going to choose between your fairness and theirs, they are going to choose theirs. DH is painful against lower tier killers because their power isn't good enough to compete with it. But for all the ones who can not having DH makes them even stronger than before.

And this isn't because "all survivors are just trash and can't play without DH". It's due to killers being able to ignore certain chase mechanics and force people into disadvantageous situations simply because they pressed a button. DH's nerf is going to bring a lot of other balance changes as well. But it will be for the better. I just doubt most people will like it.

It's also not that hard to force a pallet break unless they're already bloodlust 3 in a dead zone. Or they have a chase power.

I think boon COH is worse at this point in the game. The only issue I have with DH is the cheaters with auto deadhard when the killer swings, otherwise I’m pretty okay at baiting it and waiting.

    Textbook whataboutism lmao

I haven’t seen a problem with bloodlust. When I play survivor I don’t see a problem with a killer gaining speed. I don’t think bloodlust should be removed

i'll tell you an anedocte: i stopped once and for all to play dbd cause the devs mock their playerbase (they said that dead hard will be "looked at" but in the meatime they put that cursed perk in the tomes challenges and the worst thing is that they also put it in the shrine of secrets too)... my matches were already filled with dead hard users, but this utterly worsened the situation

I try to be fair with BVHR, but I really do not understand how anyone can read their reasoning for changing Ruin and then not seeing how those EXACT SAME THINGS are happening with Dead Hard and realizing they are being hypocrites about this.

Not with that much Slowdown-Perks in the game.

If you can remove 32 seconds of Progress with a single Hook (Pain Resonance + PGTW), you can afford way longer chases. I am using Slowdown-Perks since a few days (did not run them for years), and the game feels so easy now, it is insane.

    @Topic:

Oh, cool, a Dead Hard-Thread! Finally someone opens it.

But I hope that Killers realize that if DH gets nerfed and if it is really true that Survivors only survive that long because of DH, that other things on the Killers Side basically have to be nuked if that is really the case. Like Bloodlust and Slowdown-Perks. Because if the Chasetime really is reduced that much due to DH (I doubt it), other things need to be rebalanced. But if this is the case, I already know that the "The Devs only cater to Survivors"-people will come out.

And I really hope that nobody complains about Sprint Burst once DH is nerfed and the good Survivors (who are the only ones where DH is really problematic, bad Survivors with DH are no problem) switched to Sprint Burst and showing the Killers that it is actually even stronger than DH and even more unfun to go against.

Truth but really, Bloodlust is only just Band fix to the laziness towards Dev's balancing choices with Map Tiles. Yes, it is stupid for Survivors to lose to a bad killer whom able to gain 5% movement speed in a long chase and secure a hit, despite wasting so much time builting it up. Same argument can be said for any average killer whom has no chance at mindgaming on very strong and connecting map tiles with strong or safe Pallets vs Experience Survivors; whom can constantly loop the killer for 5 gens or even pre drop pallets and still stay alive for 5 gens in competitive sweat SWF teams.

DH is just adding more salt to this imbalance in Survivors sided favoring in more average to high level play; in which it not only extends the chase but gives you a 3rd health chance; completely game changing the way you survive much better in chase, with no "skill" besides a press of a button.

I would be happy and somewhat appreciated, if the Devs not only nerf DH to somewhat removed one of the annoying element ( the slight distance gain) as well as maybe a temporary 1-2 seconds of Incapacitation that somewhat blocks the Survivor's ability to used pallets, windows, etc. Anything to make much more as a temporary invulnerable "dodge" attack perk; and not also a chase extender, as that what Spring Burst and many other exhaustion Perks are supposed to do. (except Head On, a meme best exhaustion perk).

I would also be also downed if they removed Bloodlust too; if they also... do something about Map tiles balance too. We need less strong Map tiles that is very connected with way too many safe pallets; and more dead zone in between. Something that requires less chasing and adds bit hiding too; I want less 2nd chance perks and more perks to allow abit of immersive stealth gameplay that can be viable. Make dead zone a good place to hide, make looping more viable, and pre dropping pallets very risky and dangerous for the Survivors later on.

But, of course, if that cannot be done; then I would gladly sacrifice Bloodlust mechanics for killer, in exchange for removing the Survivors ability to gain a 3 second speed boost upon hit. The "Holding W" meta is proofing my point that the imbalance in Map tile design in flaws because of how strong experience Survivors can used their slight speed boost on hit to easily make to the next tile in timez without being punished for being injured. So I think, it would be a much fair compromise; if they either...

    1.) Fix the Map tiles, and Remove Bloodlust;

2.) Don't bother fixing the maps; yet Remove Bloodlust and also Survivor's speed boost on injured.

Dead Hard can be fixed up, and simple just be a 1 time Dodge Exhaustion perk, with no mini speed boost.

It takes more skill to use sprint burst properly than to just press E

And as a enjoyer of mindbreaker and trapper i don't worry about sprint burst users as much

Why miss a survivor who has slashed once? Because they believe it will delay repairs. But in reality, they will complete the repair with the injury. They have DH, so they are safe.

I think this game should take the "injured" status more seriously.

As mentioned. Bloodlust is a band aid fix to tiles.

There are so many tiles, where survivor can have optimal loop by wall/bush/hay clips, while killer gets stuck on the each pointy pixel. Since killer cannot have same pathing as a killer you enter the infinity loop. So therefore survivor has to make a bit of a deviation in a pathing or bloodlust has to kick in.

Combined with DH, in everyloop, survivor can squeeze fair amount of laps before DH + pallet drop.

From there on its all in W, and buying time with other loops and dropping pallets. All you can hope is that at least 1-2 gens will pop in the mean while.

But then again, its easier to master Blight or Nurse and easily bait that DH with M2. From the whole content game has to offer, you are locked to 8perks and 3-4 killers

Its fun that killers only started complaining about DeadHard as hitvalidation was introduced. It only looks like entitled killers complaining cause they dont get their undeserved hits anymore, but still want to have them. Ignoring arguments and seeking fake logic to justify rants are also quite common now.

Thinking of Dead Hard while sleeping and waking up. A perk, getting under your skin. Kinda sad.

Mind explaining how it is more fair? Since it does the exact same thing without needing a perk slot for it.

Someone used a fallacy and wasn't properly ignored for it.

  • Aven_Fallen
    Aven_Fallen Member Posts: 16,186

Obviously Bloodlust needs changing. It is only really impactful at Loops which are fair - unsafe Pallets, mindgameable Loops. But those Loops become unfair after 15 seconds when Bloodlust 1 kicks in. Strong Loops with strong Pallets are not really considered for Bloodlust, since the Killer will kick the Pallet anyway.

"I welcome a Sprint Burst gamer. Because if I see him take off at Warp 7, I know to break chase now and I don't get 45 seconds of my time wasted in a chase that ends that I "won" only to have that robbed from me by the "E" key. And if they are 99ing it, it means they are not doing things like totems or generators, so it is whatever."

I really dont understand this. Killers complain about Survivors not being scared of Killers, but it is totally fine for them that a Survivor can sit on a Gen until the very last second and can get into saftey immediatly? Without any form of danger?

If the majority of Survivors switch to Sprint Burst, you will see how much more annoying it is compared to DH. DH can prolong a chase, Sprint Burst can mean that a chase does not even start, because it is not worth to go after that Survivor.

And you can do Gens and, if you want to help the Killer, Totems, while being off Sprint Burst. Because it does not matter if you have it ready or 99ed, the Survivor will be able to use it if the Killer approaches.

But, lets just wait until they nerfed DH into the ground when Killers realize that Sprint Burst is the superior Perk. I will have lots of fun writing: "I told you." in each of those Threads.

You can't blame them for that. It's not the media section. If you put a media in general discussion, it's as a reference for points that you make in writing.

Hey what’s up bud! I just think dead hard is a super unfair perk especially if it’s used for distance or to drop a pallet.

Nah it's the same logic why wraith and probably legion in the future have been and will be nerfed after the buff, it's just easier to use efficiently.

They called buffed wraith and legion right now "braindead easy" and that they have to be nerfed but the same logic doesn't apply here where the "worse" perk is easier to use but doesn't have to be nerfed.

Incredible video. Seriously, great work. Ill also say that I got significantly better at survivor when I stopped using dead hard 2 years ago. I didn't want to use it after I got better because it would just rob any sense of accomplishment I would get from outplaying the killer.

  • Brimp
    Brimp Member Posts: 2,957

True but that still has counterplay. If you know the killer has both those perks you can just leave the gen to regress normally (which is nothing) by letting go early and having someone else come finish the gen if you manage to pull the killer away. And if the killer decides to stay near the gen go work on others since they're just letting you get free progress.

    "Obviously Bloodlust needs changing"

Nothing obvious about it at all. It doesn't need changing. It is perfect as it is.

    "But those loops become unfair..."

Nowhere is it written loops need to be fair. This is coming from the mindset players invented (not the developers), that you should be able to run a killer for 5 gens.

Chases are designed, from a game mechanic standpoint, to end in the killer's favor. You are not entitled to a 7 minute killer run until every generator is done.
