*Both* Roles Have Their Frustrations...And Empathy Is The Cure

So over the past 2 months, I've gone from a 100% pure killer main to trying to learn survivor and...yeah.

Killer:

  • BM survivors
  • Frustrating map design and bullcrap loops
  • SWFs
  • Cheaters
  • BM cheating SWFs exploiting bullcrap loops
  • Dead Hard

Survivor:

  • Weak BP rewards
  • Annoying to rank up
  • Getting slugged for half the game
  • Getting camped
  • Getting slugged for half the game, then camped. Then depipping for my troubles.
  • Getting abandoned or sandbagged

I will say that playing survivor is definitely the role that makes me saltiest, and if it wasn't for the hefty 1m reward at the end of the month I probably wouldn't try so hard. Yes, I've looked for some people to SWF with, but I know how much I loathe going up against SWFs myself and the last time I tried, I was asked 'hours?' and when I replied with 'about 100 now' I was told 'lol touch grass' and blocked.

I wonder if the queue incentives are going to get 'pures' to cross the aisle and see what life is like on the other side - because I know that playing survivor has made me a nicer killer, and as a killer main, I know how annoying survivors can be sometimes.

Anyway, rant over. Yes, I've had a cursed night.

I just genuinely don't care about the other side and that solved all my problems with the game, I don't feel bad about using Nurse, I don't feel bad about using Dead Hard, and I drop a "gg wp" at the end of every match and leave.

Personally I think Bond is the superior perk but I suppose Empathy isn't the worst thing you could run

    Nyer nyer nyer.

Also - I prefer Empathy over Bond. It's just so good for letting you know where the killer is half the time.

I'm the opposite. Playing killer has made me play nicer as a survivor. I can't even run dead hard without wanting to throw myself off to the killer for committing a dirty little sin.

Preaching to the choir buddy. You can watch threads where people who fall on both sides of the fence just get the most vitriolic responses from people knee-jerking over whatever role the hold dearest. Bad faith actors, that's all it is. On either side there's a population that has gone full monke.

What? I bring empathy to every game and all it does is show me the auras of some survivors. How do you make it work that way?

Playing both roles is what unlocks this understanding and empathy. I would suggest always running "we are going to live forever" as that is their equivalent to BBQ. It makes your time spent worth it when you can get consistent stacks. It will never be as much as the killer but the faster matches make up for it.

I have no empathy towards vile people, but I understand the struggles of both roles since I played them.

Still that doesn't excuse ignorance and nastiness some people practice.

Yes but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Also, as other have said, some people just don't understand the game.

It's also going to be really hard to make the "mains" have empathy for the side they never touch.

The REAL issue is the game is frustrating not matter what. Even the most patient and chill people can go real sour real quick because of DbD. Both sides of the experience are so different that you can't expect everyone to understand it and a big factor to why people don't understand it is because the game is a CASUAL PARTY GAME but NOT DEVELOPED AS SUCH. Survivor is meant to be played via SWF, the problem is the game isn't balanced towards SWF which means it's balanced towards casual solos which means it's easy to steam roll over unexperienced survivors but it gets blood boiling difficult vs experienced survivors. Unexperienced survivors don't realize the game is made for their protection while experienced survivors know how to use the protection the game gives them.

Point i'm trying to make is the game has a huge problem between what it is and how it is designed, which leads to most people not being happy with it. The problem isn't just nasty people the problem is the game being poorly conceived first of all.

You see toxic people in other games but other games don't have such a huge disparity between roles like DbD has.

As a killer main, I agree that BP generally awarded to survivors seems way too low. I'd definitely support a change here.

objective point gains are pretty garbage it's impossible to get 8k points soloing gens so you have to double on gens for it but that's way less time efficient
