Yeah, I feel nostalgic about the battle over the keys and the hatch.

The hatch change was catastrophic for survivors. When I read about the change, I couldn't believe it. So many things changed when this happened. Incredible key plays (that were entirely conditional) and keys which had great value in many situations all of a sudden no longer could be used the same. Some of my most exciting matches were hatch plays before the change. I still don't understand why they felt it needed to be changed this much, to only potentially benefit the last survivor. My keys have basically turned into dust collectors. I think I've used less than 5 keys since this change and they were only used for addon testing to see if I could find a reason to use them again. Now I avoid them in the blood web if I can. I really miss the old hatch.

You can still do the same, for nostalgia's sake.

Maybe trigger it for an awful map offering?

Just like they did to Mori's! Except survivors got extra time to use and abuse thier keys because for some reason they didn't do it at the same time as the mori changes.

I found an “ok” use for them. It’s not the best, but I prefer it over bringing nothing: I use the purple key with yellow beads and blood amber(?) to see the killer’s aura. For the iri Key I just swap out the yellow beads for the brown version of it (rope?) You can also pair them up with the purple ring so you can see the obsession’s aura (helpful to know exactly where killer is when obsession is in chase, etc.) but i personally prefer to slap that purple ring on a broken key for better value.

This way your keys just don’t sit in your inventory being useless.

I want more key addons for ex. an addon that allows breakable walls to be opened.

I heard and idea hatch should spawn after all gens are done so survivors could escape fromt it with a keay instead from exit gates and it would be well deserved then. Killer failed his main objective which is kill survivors before gens are done. Some killers ofcourse with endgame build would complain about that but they could just dodge lobbies if they see keys and I think it could be changed you don't get key from chests.

The old key system wasn't even that bad. Didn't need gutting like this.

When the gens are done gates are open and all survivors are alive and healthy, a cutscene of the survivors tbagging and jumping through the hatch will play.

Fits with the brilliantly thought out upcoming mori rework.

I can see your point but it's rare killer winning after gens get done if all survivors are alive. So I think it's fair if survivors has key to escape throught hatch. I end majority of my games anyway before gens get done so that why I see gens getting done failure as killer.

Survivors would have to find anyway the hatch first so killer would just wait and do nothing? They would probably still go open exit so killer would still has chanse to win and survivors would probably throw some game finding hatch at the end.

I... don't miss old hatch. I'm sorry, there are just many horrible experiences with keys that warranted the changed. I do think keys should be buffed however, but not reverted to how they were before.

New keys are garbage and could use a buff, but a return of old keys? Hell no. Being able to dip out with the rest of your team at one gen left was horrible game design, and it was completely uncounterable to boot. Either you brought a perk and camped the dropped item for 90s (which typically threw the game), or the survivors were going to bounce as soon as your 3-gen came into fruition.

The keys were conditional. Gens had to be done to make the hatch spawn and use them. Survivors made their own fun after meeting those conditions. A lot of that fun was removed when the hatch was changed. Hatch plays were very fun for survivors if they were able to make it spawn in time.

Giving keys something like having all keys reveal the aura of nearby survivors on use would be good. The add-ons would have to be changed, though. Then add more charges to all keys. Keys should have a use, but that use shouldn't be a free escape at 3 gens.

How is that difficult though? All the key does in this situation is net the survivors escapes earlier than usual. The survivors who make "key plays" just sit at the hatch waiting for the killer to come near their location so they can taunt them. It also seriously affects their other teammates if the killer closes the hatch before everyone else escapes. Had one guy angry at the other guy using a key since it got hatch closed, and the exit gates were close by, so I eventually got him.

Oh, I'm sure hatch plays were fun for survivors. I made a few in my time, and yeah, bouncing with the guy I just unhooked in front of the killer's face was exhilarating.

Thing is, when survivors are remotely competent, this game is extremely backloaded for killers. The first chase will usually be the longest, because all areas of the map have full resources and powers need to be set up, built up, etc. If survivors split up at the start, and good ones do, it's pretty common for 3 gens to pop during or at the conclusion of the first chase. Killers start to snowball later on, when multiple people are injured, the team is too busy with healing and unhooks to focus on gens, when pallets have been broken and deadzones form.

Old keys made it so that when one player died, the rest of the team could leave the match at one gen left, and there was nothing the killer could do about the situation. Guard the 3-gen? They get hatch. Guard the hatch? They do the last gen. Patrol both? They hide near the hatch and 3E as soon as you're a safe distance away, Tunneling the key user earlier was useless, someone else would pick it up. You had to kill or slug everyone before 1 gen was left or you were screwed, and when you factor in that there's often just going to be 2 gens remaining when you wrap up your first chase - yeah. That was a problem.

I'd be okay with keys letting one survivor escape but not staying open for other survivors, and causing the hatch to disappear for the rest of the match. I'd also be okay with hatch spawning once all 5 gens are done regardless of the number of survivors left. Current keys are essentially useless. But old keys were way too strong and the ability to get the whole team out early for the price of one item should never have been a thing.

That felt natural though. If a survivor died you would need less gens done to make the hatch spawn. It made the situation more suspenseful. I had a lot of matches where I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen next knowing the killer was getting closer to taking us out but also knowing we were getting closer to getting the hatch to spawn. Those matches just had a unique atmosphere to them.

Keys really do need something else, but I don't think they should revert the hatch changes. Though some people hold some nostalgia for them, I don't miss seeing keys, sighing and equipping a mori for a 1 hook kill.

And by 1 hook kill, I mean V2 mori. When you only need to hook someone once to kill them.

I think they should change the spawn to be after all 5 gens are done, or if there's 1 survivor left like it is currently. That way the dreaded 3-gen hatch escape is still avoided, but it's not completely useless.

I think they should change it so, that when the final gen is done, hatch spawns but it is closed if there is 2 or more survivors left in the game.

They said they were going to review the hatch shortly after they nerfed it. Still waiting.

It shouldn't be as it was. But how it is now is entirely pointless. Killers find it way to easily. Its too hard for survivors to find so taking a key is pointless.

I legit have 32 keys on my felix main that I just never bother to use.
