dbd compared to other asymmetrical horror games
I've seen a lot of these type of games come and go from Friday the 13th, predator hunting grounds, and now evil dead(which is really solid!). but i think dbd has one clear advantage over these other games and its the fact that its an original game, and with that benefit not only can they make original killers and survivors but also collaborate with other franchises like halloween, resident evil, texas chainsaw massacre, etc. theres always a new character to play and try out that i feel gives this game an advantage over just a game with one franchise that it can use as a source material. dbd has issue for sure, but this game still seems to bring me back one way or another for another round.

Video Horror Society is in closed beta right now and it only has original characters/content, unlike DBD which has a mix of licensed and original. I'm very much looking forward to the release because I think it has a lot of promise as a horror assym game.

Despite appearing more casual I think it’s more competitively viable for sure, so I’ll be interested to see if it becomes a rival to Dbd or not.

I think the thing thats kept this game goin when others have fallen, is that the core gameplay is fun. Sure its got a ton of issues with balance n freshness, but the bones of the game are enjoyable. Its simple enough that anyone can pick up n play, but has enough nuance to keep experienced players engaged. That said, i really hope they can smooth out all the annoying kinks......someday.

For sure, I also think alot of these games tend to have a ton of bugs or even are just less polished cause they try to do more. Example being friday the 13th with its unpolished animations, terrible driving mechanics, horrible combat. Alot of devs do to much without polishing the game up.

Friday the 13th ended up getting a lot of the things you talked about fixed, they found a good balance between each side being the power role i.e before Jason got rage you could stun him after he got rage around 10min into a 20 match only a few things could stun him so you could no longer chain stun him. They changed the way he grabbed people so you had to line it up right were as before you could be off a bit but the swing of the grab you were still able to grab him, yes there was a lot of problems for a while but they ended up smoothing a lot of them out as time went on.
Last month 8 streamers got together to play it on a Friday the 13th and most of them found it a lot harder then DBD because there is no you need to hook them 3 times and some of them are full time DBD streamers, each counselor had there own strengths and weakness same with the perks each perk had a + and a - to it, pretty much if Jason grabs you then your dead unless you have a pocket knife or someone is with you to free you, the combat was fine once you got the hang of it.
To many people want any other asymmetrical horror games to be like DBD take hide or die the vision they had for it was great but to many people wanted it more like DBD so they added in sliding to run away from the killer and slide under stuff, you get killed you spawn in a coffin and someone has to set you free, were as the last man standing if you got killed that was it hence last man standing.
Any new game comes out and the first topic is always this is DBD 2.0, they are copying DBD, it's not fun getting killed so quick. I would love to see great DBD survivors vs great Jason players in Friday the 13th just to see how different and harder it is. But that's just my thought on it and people need to stop compering games to DBD the more they do the harder it can be for a new game to shine even if it is a lot better then DBD.

I dont think its wrong comparing these two particular games at all because both function similarly in alot of stuff. 1v4 multiplayer, set in a horror atmosphere, end goal is to either escape or kill all survivors, each killer has unique perks as well as survivors. Its just that I feel like the friday the 13th team bit of more then they can chew by implementing things like a clunky combat system for survivors, really terrible animations for both Jason and survivors, horrible driving mechanics, and without a doubt a very buggy and unpolished mess.

Not sure when you played it last but give it another look at it, it used to be a massive mess of things but got better over time. To me i treat each game as its own and try not to compare it with other games in the same area or you get caught in the same loop as x game is worse then x game when the only thing they have in common is the type of game it is.
people complain they are tired of DBD and the unbalance of things and how matches are the same but for some reason won't try something new for a bit to see if they like it or not, like predator hunting grounds to me the predator was to weak when starting out and took a while before you got some better stuff so a lot of games at the start you got punished bad because predator was to weak.

Just as long as it doesn't come with Fortnite like aesthetics and gameplay, i.e., bright colors, wacky game mechanics, no horror-related in-depth lore and copy-paste asymmetrical gameplay.
Yes, I'm talking about Propnight and VHS. When was the last time anyone felt a horror game like vibes from those wack copies? They don't even try to look scary.
Evil Dead, on the other hand, seems promising. Friday the 13th was also spot on, except for the bugs and the lawsuit.

Evil Dead is a lot more like Left 4 Dead than it is DbD. Which is fine but they’re definitely different enough that they can cooexist in the gamespace. At the moment Evil Dead seems ok but has some rough bits that they’ll want to iron out.
VHS is a bit closer to DbD but still plays more like an action shooter than DbD does. Again, whether someone likes that better or worse than DbD is just a matter of personal preference. Since the game is still in closed beta it’s really hard to tell how well it will do.

The only reason it brings me back is licenses but puts me back off because I'm reminded of the horrendous gameplay

Dbd still has a lot going for it. I definitely prefer DbD's match length over its competitors. Games drag on 5ever in Evil Dead and VHS. 7-10 minutes is the sweet spot and DbD usually sticks around that mark. 20-30 minutes is ridiculous

Other Asymm games literally stay in beta so long, I lose interest.
Happened with Last Year and happening with VHS imo,... by the time it comes out the next kickstarter will be taking in donos.
Everytime I see a streamer play VHS, IM like cool,.. so in like 2 years we can play?
bored with how they beta these games these days, I will be here in DBD while they fade away
