Noon vs evening SBMM

I'm on Steam and was checking hours recently.

My afternoon games had survivors anywhere from 2k hours to 9k hours. Most recent game had 5.5k hour survivor. Matches are super sweaty and I average probably around 2 kills.

Evening matches on the other hand. I have survivors with anywhere between 300 hours and 1k hours and there is rarely anything less than 4 kills.

So, I have 2 questions:

  1. Is this huge skill disparity is specific to my time zone (PST) or if everyone has similar experience.
  2. Has anyone tried VPN to different region with different time and can tell if this changes experience.

Edit: Please include your time zone in reply.

I'm having the exact opposite. Around noon, survivors are substantially weaker than at night.

Na east, it's best to play during morning or lunch hour for sure.

Mine is the same. Full meta mega try hards during the day. Players that hard split on gens and don't waste a second. This game is only fun as killer when there are way too many survivors in the queue

In Central Europe, I'll tell my experience from other side (solo survivor) but it's basically the same: noon games are mostly survivor-sided and killers have a hard time. Some don't even get a single hook. Still some bad games where the teammates are the killers, but easy to forget since there are many good ones.

Evenings: killers 4k pretty much every game, and it's not even close. Super frustrating as survivor. Since I noticed how different daytime games are I'm not playing survivor any longer in the evenings. Sadly I don't have much time to play during the day.

I have my own personal theory: I'm at low MMR (this part is not a theory but a fact, my teammates usually have less than 100 hours and rarely a full set of four tier 3 perks), likely from playing too many unbalanced matches in the evenings/at night. In the evenings there are more survivors than killers, so the game probably has an easy time finding survivors it thinks that are as bad as it considers me to be, but there are not enough killers around that MMR so it has to create an unbalanced match and since I'm at the bottom of the MMR scale there aren't any worse killers and it has to pull in ones from higher MMRs which would mean basically every game is extremely killer sided. As I play way more at night than during day, the loss of MMR (even I lose less MMR against stronger killers) may have accumulated and put me - and others - in a region where during the day, killers of the actual same MMR (who are more commonly available in the larger daytime killer pool) become a joke to beat, plus at this time there are fewer survivors so any MMR range extension during search would rather fill the lobby with stronger survivors.

For highest MMR survivors it could be the opposite, less killers at night means "unbalanced" matches are far more likely to include a killer of lower MMR so the survivors may have easier games.

I have similar experiences on NA East.

What I think happens: when major role imbalances happen, the system starts compensating and compensating to the point that it starts to cascade and affect all matches, especially at higher MMR where there are fewer players.

I get very good games on both sides during the day time EST. Teammates are actually sentient and my killer games are very tough, often against multiple 2k+ hr players.

If I play at night or peak hours, it's not clear that there's any matchmaking happening at all. Teammates are generally (relatively) horrendous and I can sleepwalk through killer games.

For your second question: sometimes I VPN to EU to play survivor for faster queues and better matchmaking in the evenings. It works pretty well, but I'll go against the same killer player 2 or 3 times in a row.

Recent daytime survivor example: solo queue, entire team knew to split the 3 gen individually and hold W to force the killer to commit away from gens. Ended up breaking the 3 gen, but the game took 20 minutes.

Recent night/peak hour survivor example: teammates tried to triple up a gen without Prove against a Legion (why) (wut) (nani), proceeded to get 4k'd at 3 gens by a Legion on Eyrie. You can't make this up.

I'm in EST and I suck at both roles, so I assume my natural MMR is pretty low. I definitely get easier/fairer games on evenings and weekends. Middle-of-the-day games usually see me go against opponents who are way too good, I assume because there are fewer people to choose from then and maybe because sweatier players are more likely to be on during the day than casuals.

It's basically just the time zone differences.

For example me on EST night time is when all the SWF sweat squads are on, but during the day time there are lots more chill solo groups.

My experience is basically the same as yours, OP. BUT on weekend it's just garbage all day long with Sunday being the worst day. I play since about 4 hours now and I think I escaped two games in this time...

Evening/night in Europe the Survivor pool is so big you just get paired with wathever, you can face the pride of the Special Forces, veterans of a million trials and next game against 4 people who have 2 hours tops.

    EU, CET.

16:00 to 18:00 survivors are mostly on the casual side. (Less than 1k hours)

18:00 to 22:30 survivors are mostly on the strong side. (1.5 to 12k hours)

22:30 to 01:00 survivors are mostly extremely weak. (Less than 500 hours)

    Notes:

I usually play survivor until 19:00 so I have less matches to look at during these times.

The number of hours is only loosely correlated with how strong a team is.

I still get extreme teams (weak or strong) at any time. It's the amount that changes.

Prime time is generally when all the twitch swf clowns come out, and so does my starstruck.
