I have an issue with my game that I have not been able to fix

I've googled for about an hour to fix this and I still have not found a fix. I play on PC btw. At random moments while the game is running, my game will freeze completely for about 5 seconds, and then it will run at about 5 fps. I will have input delays and everything as well. While this is happening my entire computer has the same thing happen. Once I close the game it stops and I can relaunch and have the game run normally for a bit again. It only happens with DBD. I don't have a top-of-the-line PC but my specs definitely reach the minimum requirements. I have no idea what causes this or how to fix it. Any help is much appreciated.
