Are they pulling "A David" Again?
Judging from the the recent LGBT representation post by the Dead by Daylight twitter. it seems to be implied there going to Turn Yui LGBT?
For the love of all that is the Entity Make a NEW CHARACTER and Carefully.
LGBT representation that is not built of an existing character is so much better taken. Makes it feel genuine

Lazy representation, I just don't expect much from them anymore on anything.

I never felt David change was Very Genuine. I never do when its built off existing characters

It makes a HUGE DIFFRENCE. Using a new character gives them time to make it MEAN SOMETHING. make it feel genuine. lets them use A BLANK SLATE to make something awesome.
Representation that is tacked on feels lackluster and not genuine
4 -
Tokenism and taken a good approach are different things
A token would be, "He is gay but has no unique personality" like the Gay best friend trope
Thats like saying Sylvando from dragon quest 11 is a token when he is a unique character with a touching back story that is built on

To me its the Talking about Lgbt representation, then David, the Including LGBT stories, then a post about Yui that is linked to this one.

If there were just asking about someone favorite character why did they connect it to the 3 post about LGBT representation?
0 -
There does need be a different approach

Yui's whole story is about fighting the traditional gender roles forced on her.If anything she would've been a better choice than David.
8 -
i mean yui is literally one of the best options for this kind of thing but ok i guess
10 -
Shouldn’t this be called „Pulling a Legion“ as they were the first characters that got a sexuality added to them with a tome that wasn’t directly stated in the release background story? Or is it only bad if it’s LGBTQ+ related?
8 -
Lgbt representation is more important then heterosexual representation. it need to be done with more care
0 -
Why even turn this into an issue, I do not care if they want to make a pre-existing character LGBTQ. If anything, it fits for Yui, and also gives people who identity the same a character to play that represents who they are.
7 -
And that’s what they did with David. And if you read the interview more carefully you would know that David was already based on another character that was tied to homosexuality. It wasn’t just tacked on on any character for the sake of it.
also Yui was never revealed to be heterosexual either. There has been a partner mentioned in her tome story with the gender being left open. It might have been already in the minds of the creators for a long time if Yui turns out to be LGBTQ+ as this is the only time a person is mentioned without their gender being ‚obvious‘
i think it’s very limiting to say revealing an existing character as LGBTQ+ is automatically tacked on. David’s story is well written and fitting with everything else in his existing lore.

For me doing it to prexisting characters is like big corporations when they put the rainbow flag on their twitter when pride day is close, it feels extremely low effort.
That being said, I prefered when the characters were blank slates with minimal personal info so if you imagined they LGBT they could be it or not or wathever, except some very concise cases like Nurse and Julie&Frank the rest could have wathever sexual orientation you wanted to give them.
1 -
I hope they do because David is great rep and I'd love some more, and Yui is a really good fit. Not because of her lore exactly but the general themes with the character, and the Chapter "Cursed Legacy" as a whole.

I agree with ur first point
but disagree with ur second, representation is important.

Maybe im thinking 2 much on it, it could be done well. I'm just really worried it wont.
1 -
This!
i mean on some characters like Nurse and maybe Oni it would feel weird if they suddenly reveal them as LGBTQ+, but pretty much any other character it could fit (depending on how such a story would be written of course).
i do think they shouldn’t overdo it however and not suddenly reveal the sexual orientation/identity or romantical relationships for every character.
2 -
If they do go this route i want it to be every once and a while.
also i was hoping for an LGBT killer if anything.
Mabye they will make Yui Asexual. that would fit her character personally
1 -
DBD players when LGBT character exists:
Everytime someone complains, another character becomes LGBT /s
2 -
i feel like we want the same thing just in different ways- good representation of LGBT+ identities. and i really hope we get some solid trans, bi, and aro/ace representation one day
5 -
One of them also said Elodie was a favourite character
Just because these two like Yui (Which it's not surprising she's one of many ppl's favourites, myself included), it doesn't mean anything.
2 -
Lgbt DBD players worried about representation.
Thats me. i am worried about how my community is represented in media. it is so often done horribly
1 -
Nobody will be happy with any outcome so the topic is entirely pointless, honestly.
You cant make an old character gay, you can't just make a new one, you cant ignorethe topic entirely etc.
0 -
I agree, I guess some people dont mind if the character is new or old. but to me It feels strange to see a old character changed especially since with the topic of LGBT it is so often done horribly
0 -
Personally, I believe it would not be taken better if it was a new character. The devs already explained it, and it's honestly not that hard a concept to grasp, they don't want a characters sexuality to be the forefront of their existence to people. That's why they'll never make a brand new character lgbtq. People will automatically just call them the "gay character."
Also, the question you're referring to they were asked their favorite character. That doesn't really mean anything other than they like Yui.
7 -
i hope we get a mix tbh. an old, free character to avoid the claims of tokenism and profiting off of the LGBT community, etc, who also really fits, and then later we can get new characters who are LGBT+ as well as more old ones.
and then one day everyone will be LGBT+ and we will have truly won- i mean what
4 -
if they didn't want them to be a "forefront of the existence" they would of hidden it in david lore like it is now and not announced it to everyone.
0 -
be careful or people might think you're being serious
🏃

But that’s the thing, it’s not a change. Every tome story adds something ‚new‘ to a character, but in almost no cases it actually changed the characters! And that’s the same for characters whose sexuality wasn’t revealed before.
i guess some stuff in Legions tome actually contradicts their release lore though. There has been some kind of change happening..
2 -
I agree with ur top point
and im glad it looks like ur joking with ur bottom lol
0 -
People realizing they are LGBT+ later on in life is a big thing as well.
4 -
don't say that too loud
most people hate jonah
4 -
Not really, He is smoking hot.

Would be interesting if Yui got a tome of her being lesbian and coping with the anti-gay laws in Japan.
0 -
From what i understand the anti-gay laws are only really marriage. And even now that is changing.
0 -
if they give him a walter white skin i'll become a jonah main

I'm gonna assume hes joking, and I found it kind of funny so no harm really.

How is it wrong to be critical on representation?

Yee obviously
Just yk there's ppl on the forums that would see it seriously lol, just wanted to make a joke 🤔

Yeah i understand/

Nowhere did I say that… However within the context of the OP having an issue with yui essentially coming out and actually having character development comes across as being a petulant child.
0 -
You legit said it was childish, "ruins everything" and entitled to be worried about how my community is represented.
1 -
“Even if it’s an opinion you might not agree with”.
please tell me how you came to that conclusion?
0 -
Using your words, your right it is childish to be complaining that yui is now coming out as part of the LGBTQ+ community as opposed to a new character.
And please respond with the context and paraphrase and quote individual words.
0 -
I can not see how its childish to worry about how my community is represented at all. I can have my concerns.
3 -
Or maybe they genuinely care about this topic. Evidence by their support of the LGBTQ+ community eg within their Fog Whisperer program and various charity streams etc.
4 -
thats what they all say. its all about the PAPER they are worried about.
0 -
I do think they genuinely care about the topic 2, and i hope they continue to do so.
My take has brought some unsavory people into the topic and I'm sorry.
