Why not just remove perk tiers?
I will start this by saying that the prestige overhaul is a decent change. Despite this I can’t help but think that the removal of perk tiers would’ve been a overall better solution. Here are the benefits of removing perk tiers.
- Reduces the grind by a huge chunk (Similar amount to the current overhaul especially if you only rotate between a small number of killers and survivors like most do).
- Easier for new players to get a grasp on perks since they only have to remember 1 tier
- Easier to balance perks and takes less design time to figure out what the tiers will change (Discordance is the perfect example of how tiers can end up being confusing and messy)
In practise lets say I main Jane and want to level up Jonah for his teachables. I get him to level 40 with about 1 million BP and then get 2 perks per Bloodweb with Jane only needing 2 to get all his techables. Isn’t that just more simple than the new system?
Or let’s say I main clown and want Dissolution from Dredge. All I need to do now is just get him to 30 and then unlock that once on clown since I don’t want Darkness revealed or Septic touch instead.
This isn’t even getting into the bloody outfits which now as far as I know cost more BP to acquire so you are actively discouraging people playing more characters while also having a system that encourages it
I can understand that removing tiers would take some design time but I feel you would make up the time since you don’t need to worry about designing perks around them anymore and having to create arbitrary stats to make tiers work (Discordance’s distance and BT’s timer for example). Not to mention this system feels a lot more simple to new players imo and reduces the grind for the players who already have their main characters picked out

Because uhhhhhhhhhhh.

Because they wanted to address the fact that grind is growing exponentially with each dlc, and removing perk tiers is not solving this problem.

Thing is if I want to get let’s say the 3 new perks on my main killer and survivor removing perk tiersends up being less expensive and time consuming. This change only benefits people who play a lot of different killers and survivors which is a smaller chunk of the playerbase I’d guess

Because BHVR isn't a fan of easy solutions
14 -
Apparently not. I literally see no issues coming from doing this and it would’ve taken less development time I’d bet
8 -
their current solution doesn't really help much either though its just less of an exponential growth, the grind is still gonna be hyper time consuming and is nowhere near the 75% drop in the grind that was advertised
0 -
Well there is a good explanation for that you see
Because..... um....
6 -
Because BHVR.
Also, hi Phasma! It has been a while :)

You're even there trying to wrongfully convice others to your misleading statements. Ofc it would solve the grind problem. Partially at least.

What about me 😔

This update reduces the growth of the total grind to linear, i.e. 2xmore DLC = roughly 2xmore grind. Currently the growth is quadratical (not sure why they say exponential), i.e. 2xmore DLC = roughly 4xmore grind.
Removing perk tiers would reduce the grind, but it would not fix the quadratical growth.
They could however remove the perk tiers in addition to the PTB grind update.
Note: The PTB grind reworks increases the grind of players who only want to max out 1-2 characters, because they need to level them up to 50 instead of 30-40 to unlock the perks. But I think that's not a big increase given that the grind to maintain those 1-2 characters is pretty low. But still it is unneeded to increase it, so yeah, they should fix that.

It is not.
The growth came from the fact that every time a character comes out not only is there 1 more character to grind, but that character's stuff now has to be grinded on every other character, which gets worse and worse withe very update because there are more and more characters getting more and more stuff to unlock.
With the new system, it is linear. Each new character released needs to be prestige 3 times, and that is all the grinding done for the new content. No more going back to older characters and unlocking the newer content.
They should have just made the BP bonus from BBQ/WGLF base kit. They shouldn't have added the 50k cost to prestige and maybe considered shrinking blood webs a bit. Like reducing the cost of 0-50 from around 1.6 million to 1.2-1.4 million

Because they don't want to reduce the grind THAT much.

Hello, my friend!
It is good to see ya again :)

I like the new system better
0 -
That would be great and I don't understand why they have so many perks with tiers anyway.
Even if you looked at it from a company's perspective, no perk tiers = overall less work = less time = less money spent on creating it by the devs/team.
For players, this would mean everyone would start on equal grounds, perkwise that is.

Because removing perk tiers and the mediocre blood point offerings would have been too easy.
1 -
They said it was too technically challenging at this point. Which, yeah, you waited too long to address the grind...

Seems we’re both back here I guess.
Can’t say much has changed for the better but this anniversary event was actually very good so I’m back for now
0 -
Keep the new system as it, but either give 2X bp, or make everything half as much, and for godsakes remove the 50K prestige "tax"
There, fixed it LOL
0 -
That could work too. I just don’t like how little this change actually impacts the grind
1 -
But what if you only play like 3 survivors and about 5 killers like most? In that case getting them on everyone means nothing
0 -
Did you read my comment I said it wasn't as exponential anymore, suppose I should have clarified that it wasn't exponential anymore but the upfront cost is now higher to unlock those perks especially if you want all the t3 versions. I completely agree with your last point though
0 -
Unironically the new system makes the grind even longer and isnt as good for addons as you're forced to prestige and you dont really get higher tier addons until blood web lvl 20.
0 -
I don't know you, but I'll take a hi, lol
0 -
It's too easy of a solution.

i have gone through 50 blood webs for Zarina and still no borrowed time. Bill is p1 however. So i will finally have bt on her. I’d rather have this change than just removing perk tiers
1 -
Yes but you would go through perks significantly faster if you on,y have to unlock it once as opposed to three times
0 -
Yes but with having every characters teachables and don’t for get the universal perks, it would still take a ton since it’s random. The easiest way to fix the grind tbh is that if you buy the characters you get their perks automatically on everyone
0 -
Because we are not allowed to have nice things and Behaviour developers are meanies!

Hello!
1 -
Spaghetti Code, literally no other reason they wouldn't bother to
0 -
I just play the game.
0 -
They fear people will stop playing if they get all of the perks.
0 -
neither did this for most players, it increased their grind instead.
Thing is, there is actually not many players that will target prestige 3, unless they already have most perks -> veteran players.
1,2M vs 4,5M BP is huge difference unless you want to play that character. If you don't want to play that character, it's just lot of addons/items/offerings wasted.
So lot of players are going to go path prestige 1 + bloodweb on killers they want.
