Prestige is mandatory???
I thought it worked the same as it does now. You can prestige if you want for the shiny emblem or whatever people care about. Now I'm reading that you have to?
The forced prestige cost combined with the awful bloodwebs you get at early levels reduces the available BP for later levels implicitly. It's an increased cost for higher rarity items and addons by extension.
This is awful. I don't care about the internet kudos of the emblems. I want my stuff. I'd never prestige if I didn't have to.

Nope it's now mandatory have fun spending 20k BP every 50 levels ✨

How on earth did anyone think this reduced the grind? It's literally increased.
18 -
The thing the decreased the grind is how prestiging now unlocks that characters perks for everyone else. If you prestige say nurse once, all killers will have tier one strider, thana and NC unlocked. If you p3 hag, all killers will have tier 3 ruin.

The payment to prestige shouldn't be a thing if it prevents you from acquiring anything at all on the bloodweb. Everything else is absolutely great - This however makes no sense. Just remove the payment to prestige. It's already a penalty enough where you have smaller webs with less nodes with less options on stuff to buy.

It's reduced. It's been mathematically proven repeatedly.
What folks are not really getting is that the emphasis for the economy rework has been about making perk acquisition significantly easier and more cost-effective, with costs offset into other areas. It will benefit the community health immensely to make it easier for folks to unlock their perks on everybody without the cost to do so spiraling out of control exponentially (see the original post where they said it takes about 4h of gametime per day to spread all new perks to all characters per chapter compared to the about 1h per day now).
Things like the prestige cost and the removal of BP from WGLF/BBQ are offsets to help control the amount of relief that redesigning the economy to treat perks as more accessible than before (rather than on an approximately even playing field with everything else)

It's reduced for people who want every perk. I have every perk I want, I don't care about prestiging. For me I now have to work through the terrible low level bloodwebs, gamble on the stuff I want being in the higher tier bloodwebs, pay the tax and do it again. This costs way more BP than the current system where I just ignore prestiging cuz I don't care about cosmetics or a sparkly badge.
2 -
But I don't want to prestige I like having all my perks
0 -
Prestige doesn't get rid of your perks or add-ons anymore
5 -
Even at teir 3 perks?
1 -
Yeah there's no such thing as inventory loss with prestige starting with the coming update. Anything you buy with bp will be yours till you use it.
1 -
Oh ok good to know
2 -
If you're talking about hunting for rarer addons, they mentioned in today's post that they're going to introduce a solution to make that less of an issue. And unless they never manage to introduce another perk you want in the future, you'll inevitably benefit from the reduced BP cost to get that perk spread onto all of your other characters.
0 -
This didn’t increase the grind. Yall are goofs.
2 -
They did if you're not hunting for new perks
0 -
95+% of the survivor playerbase only plays (and therefore invests in) one or two survivors. Maybe three at best. This new system doesn't benefit them at all. Same thing for people playing only a few different killers.
5 -
"Prestige is mandatory???"
Mandatory and costly. Worst of both worlds.
6 -
New players dont have all killers and survivors unlocked, this is an awful way to reduce the grind. And this only applies for perks, not getting items and addons is harder,I hate this so called grind reduction.
1 -
And starting off with a fresh bad bloodweb
1 -
It reduces the grind for veterans. I never said it's better for new players. This update didn't due a thing for them.
0 -
Ya'll are making me nervous. I have yet to try the new updated prestige.... I just know that I have a bunch of tome objectives ready to cash in to prestige Haddie lolol.

If they're going to force prestige and are going to attach a toll to it then it should cost the same as an iri node, 7k BP.
If they want to have it be higher than 7k BP then it should be optional. Those that want charms, cosmetics, an brags can pay the toll. Those that don't want that can choose to not prestige their characters.
1 -
Mandatory prestige is one of the worst ideas the Devs have ever had. Like others have said some players only use a handful of the roster.
If they added this system but still kept the old level 35 - 40 perk unlocks then it would give player the OPTION to still choose.
6 -
And of course while it does somewhat reduce the cost of collecting perks it makes addons, especially the actually decent ones, much more expensive. So much for reducing overall grind.
0 -
Am I reading that right-- you only have to get tier 3 on one character and it automatically puts those tier 3 perks in all other characters' loadouts, meaning, I don't even have to unlock the tier 3s in the bloodweb?
I mean either way, that's pretty huge.
0 -
I'm not sure I follow your reasoning - there's a difference between "the grind" and just... buying things from the bloodweb. One has an endpoint - "the grind" is "the grind to unlock all perks on all characters" - sure, it includes getting a hearty collection of addons, too - but the stockpiling of addons is endless. I don't know how you reduce this mathematically.
0 -
Rate of accumulation. Today, you continue on with infinite level 50 webs with varying addon rarities. The new system starts you back at level 1 with mostly common and uncommon.
Now, the Dev Update did say they will look into node rarity for prestige characters in the future. But that won't happen this mid-chapter.
3 -
The nebulous and ill-defined future. Took them like a year to turn the million BP cap to 2 million in a database somewhere.
2 -
They are doing a very good job of killing my desire to boot up this game ever again.
3 -
Ok I for one agree that it shouldn't cost bp to prestige now but...are we really complaining and acting like it's the end of the world over 20k bp....Unless MMR screws me with teammates or a super skilful team as Killer I can easily make at least 10k in one game. I could see if it was like 200k or a growing cost with each prestige but it's not thank goodness.
0 -
I am really glad they reduced it from 50k, but it still doesn't change the fact that there was no reason to introduce a prestige cost in the first place.
3 -
I'm glad they lowered it too and I agree with you as well that it should cost anything or at the very least 7k....what I was confused about was people still acting like it's the end of the world for 20k bp....
1 -
Community: No prestige cost
Devs: 50k
Community: Outrageous
Dev: ok 20k
Community: Not so bad
🙃
3 -
And that's precisely why I can't understand why they're removing the blood point gains from BBQ and WGLF. If they're going to require blood points to prestige, then there's absolutely no reason why they should be removing the blood point gains from perks.
1 -
you can have a bad game and get less than 20k. it takes an absolutely awful game to get less than 7k. and remember, the value of "you get to keep progressing" is manufactured since it did not exist before this update.
1 -
Yea lol I was trying to be kind with my example....tbh I get 20k easily unless it's a truly horrible game

I think this is a big aspect of this conversation that doesn't get brought up enough. The Grind is a player retention tactic. Obviously bhvr wont call it that, because no self respecting company will when discussing their own business practices. Retention tactics aren't inherently bad though, they just open the doorway for bad practices. Part of the problem with the grind is that it is asymmetrical just like the roles, with both sides having different values within their grinds.
Survivors want: perk unlocks. items, addons and offerings are bonuses.
Killers want: perk unlocks, addons. offerings are bonuses.
Survivors have less importance in each web, which means they will have a faster grind. And since survivors are basically just skins, they only need items/addons/offerings/whatever other bonus pretzels on a single survivor, while the rest can be p3'd and done and never have to be touched again. Since killers play so different AND their addons are far more important AND they're consumables, they will always require more grinding just by default. You only p3 and drop a killer if you never intend to play them again, otherwise you will have to continue to pump progress into them if only to restore your consumables.
Survivors have consumables as well, but they only lose items if they die or otherwise leave them behind. Addons and offerings are the only true consumables, and they only have significant impact either with iridescents (addons) bully squads (map offerings) or to improve BP gains (BP offerings) everything else is clutter, but thats ok because their most important stuff is already over by then.
All of that said, nothing about these changes makes most people want to do the grind, due to prioritization. If someone is a survivor main and never wants to touch killer ever, they can see the grind as just unlocking all perks for all survivors and it feels both managable and has linear progress. Due to how unimportant the other parts of their bloodweb are, the lack of linearity to things like items and addons is irrelevant. Hell, you can even make builds to farm items AND addons in each match without touching a single web. But the moment someone wants to play both sides, the weight of the Killer side becomes oppressive. It just drains all motivation knowing that every game you're taking 1 step back for ever few steps forward due to losing those addons and needing to directly spend more BP to replenish them through chance.
Its just really hard to get excited about this stuff, and it usually only takes 1 or 2 games with little progress to just check out.
1 -
Agreed. It just feels bad to have to pay to "level up". It's a boner killer for sure.
1 -
It may not have been necessary, but I can see why they may have thought it wasn't detrimental.
Prestiging a character unlocks 3 perks automatically on every other character. That alone is saving you 15k x 28 survivors = 420,000 BP, just on the perk nodes, let alone reducing the entire bloodwebs you would need to get through to even reach those nodes.
2nd and 3rd prestiges save you 504k and 588k respectively.
But like anything, it's all about optics and psychology.
Players can't see the 420k they saved, they only see the 20k they lost.
0 -
It's not increased, but it doesn't make the 20k Prestige nodes right.
0 -
Yup! I can handle the prestige 20k tax, but I hate that it's compulsory. If they wanna lessen the grind then let me pick for myself when and if I prestige
1 -
Yes, pay the tax wagie.
0 -
It doesn't for newer players or those (like myself) who didn't get a chance to prestige all their characters or even get them to level 50 to automatically be prestiged to 1.
0 -
I mean, do you think is right that anyone should be FORCED to throw out 20k bloodpoints and getting nothing in return?
I could understand the prestige having a cost until you're prestige 9 (you unlock the perks, the cosmetics and the charms) even though it still doesn't sit too right with me
But having to throw out those 20k after prestige 9? Why? To be able to KEEP PLAYING? What's next, having to pay 500 bloodpoints to generate each level of the bloodweb? It's 500 bloodpoints, why should you care?

Prior to the update I had EVERY perk unlocked.. Survivors and Killers were all at lvl 50... some P1 some P2 some P3... After this update I have people who aren't even P1.. Perks I originally had unlocked are now locked at "yellow/lvl1". I've done the math and it's well over an estimated 100 million bps worth of lvls through prestige that have outright been robbed from me (from JUST MY SURVIVORS ALONE).
For Example.. I had Ash P2 lvl 50 (which is basically P3 - minus 1 click of a button!!) after this update, He is now a P6 and a full 3 prestige lvls away from what my P3's converted to. 3 full lvls of prestige at the value of a few red icons that nobody can really even see? HOW IS THIS NOT A BIGGER ISSUE?!?!?
I've spent thousands of hours playing Dead By Daylight. 1 update and i'm robbed of my perks, prestige, etc for what??? Some red picture on my P3's? These conversions are a tragedy to us players who have spent thousands of hours grinding bp's... Who's Bright idea was it to round prestige's down? To Rob Killers/Survivor's everyone who wasnt full P3 with every character, of all of this????
Should I expect some sort of compensation or do I truly need to admit that the dev's have completely robbed me and soo many others and just call it what it is.... The Death of DBD..... Idk but This NEEDS to be a bigger issue.... This NEEDS to be addressed... This NEEDS to be said.....
0 -
i've done the math i've lost a rough estimate of 200 million bps worth of prestige through conversion. My prestige has been gutted and numerous perks are now LOCKED at yellow... The prestige system alone has made me and many of my friends practically quit.
0 -
How have you come to that figure and how is that even possible?
You shouldn't have lost prestige levels. If you have, that's a bug.
Prestige 1 costs 20k and saves a minimum of 420k by unlocking 3x28 perks on other characters. (Realistically much more by several factors if we're counting the bloodwebs required to get them and not just the cost of the perk nodes themselves)
Prestige 2 and 3 save 504k and 588k respectively.
Per character.
1 -
ALL OF MY CHARACTERS WERE LVL 50 some P1 some P2 etc. as in my example my P2 lvl 50 which should be P8 lvl 50 is now P6. characters I had just lvl 50 (to unlock perks) are still at 0 prestige instead of P2 lvl 50. This isn't a bug its behavior rounding everyone down and screwing me out of hundreds of millions of bps and perks etc.
0 -
I should have EVERYTHING unlocked already and I have numerous things locked now
0 -
You weren't screwed out of anything. You were awarded with extra levels.
Why do you think your P2 should have been transformed into P8 instead of P6?
Talk about entitled.
1 -
If you had every perk in the game, then your characters would be P6 minimum, plus extras for any existing Prestige levels.
