Upcoming Distortion changes
I'm surprised at how little I have seen discussion of the new Distortion changes coming soon. After trying it out on the PTB and considering how quickly it builds up tokens while in the killer's terror radius, I think this perk is going to heavily counter most aura reading.
As an example, I recall being in a match with a Nurse running BBQ, Floods of Rage, Darkness Revealed, and I'm All Ears. All evidence indicated that she never saw my aura once the entire match even considering she was very regularly opening lockers to use Darkness Revealed. I had a hatch escape in that game, while all other survivors were quickly removed from the match. The map we were playing on was The Game.

I can’t wait to switch out WGLF for it when the patch goes live. Aura reading is getting way stronger with lethal and I’m guessing floods of rage will be taking BBQ’s place
Imagine mid chase having floods of rage go off and getting 10 seconds of aura immunity and no scratch marks. That’s insanely powerful

The Game is a great map for this though, as you can be above or below the killer and easily in their terror radius while playing. Larger maps it will be difficult to get as good value

I don’t know how they can think unlimited aura blocking is ok. Even with a 30-second charge time in TR per token.

Yeah new distortion is going under the radar but it's pretty nuts. Remember off the record also has aura blocking and will also likely see a large increase in use. I had a Feng on PTB bring both while I played plague with lethal persuer and two aura reading addons (aura reveal when cleansing + aura reveal when vomiting), never saw her.

And this is bad? Survs perks should help survivors. I’m sure killers wanted distorsion not to remove aura reading but give survs 50bps when the killer sees them

I’m down for survivors using this perk now. It’s almost like a meta change…
Im going all in on aura reading after the nerf to BBQ and buff to Lethal Pursuer. Nobody would expect it lol.

It's fine. The absolute amput of aura reading perks and addons makes it near impossible to stealth is ridiculous with the survivors having limited options of dealing with them.

I’m cool with it personally. You have to take up a perk slot and stealth for 30 seconds to get 1 back. Certain add ons and perks can burn through tokens regardless and other tracking perks still work like rancor, infectious and killer instinct on powers like legion
either way having a new potential meta option is nice

I'm only describing the situation. If I wanted to actively complain about the change I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself, you don't need to attribute opinions to me.
As it happens I have a few concerns about several perks on both sides but in the spirit of shaking up the meta I'm happy for them all to go live as they currently are and see how things play out there.

Looks like I’m finally going to have to purchase Jeff and unlock Distortion. I needed something to replace Spine Chill on my Claudette, and this will do nicely.

Agreed. There needs to be more solid counters to aura reading. Honestly, the Distortion buff isn't enough, especially considering there's a boon that stops aura reading permanently for all survivors.

It's nice to have Distortion buffed, but this perk will still stay pretty mediocre. Even if you equip 4 stealth perks you won't be completely stealthy in DBD nowadays (unlike during the first 2 years after DBD release) and some killer anti-stealth abilities don't even have any counters, wasting perk slots is just not worth it for most survivors, you don't know which killer you are gonna get. All stealth perks are pretty situational and you have little to no control over them, with exception of IW, which is going to be nerfed hard.

also just adding that whether distortion is a strong perk depends entirely on the killer's build.
If killers start bringing lethal pursuer and going all in on aura reading in general it'll be extremely strong, as will object
If they kick out BBQ for a 4th slowdown then a survivor with distortion has essentially 3 perks

The killer can kick a boon, which also takes 14s to place, is only useful within a 24m range and doesn't tell you when the aura is blocked, so you cannot use it to know which perks the killer has. If you're using Distortion, a teammate gets hooked, you lose a token, you know that the killer has BBQ, Boon : Shadow Step doesn't give the same value.

If you run distortion against a pig with Amanda's letter, your stacks get eaten up in about 5 seconds.

Except you don’t have to stealth at all because unlike stakeout it recharges in chase too as long as you’re in the terror radius. That’s what makes it too strong imo

Nope. For the 10 seconds it blocks your scratch marks, it doesn’t consume any further tokens. Plus, I don’t think many of us can expect to go against an iridescent add-on Pig very often.

Edit: According to multiple reports, Distortion will recharge tokens in chase. The wiki incorrectly specifies it does not.

If this is true it bugged in a game I played a few weeks ago. I went from 4 to 0 stacks in a very miniscule amount of time against a pig who was crouched nearby.

There have been so many ######### aura perks and add ons added to this game to damn near nullify stealth. We should have a decent counter to them. No, it is not too strong. There's no need to panic about every single decent perk survivors get.
What were the last few perks that people panicked about? Lucky Break, Power Struggle, Residual Manifest..

I always view it as a tradeoff. They're getting Distortion, but what are they giving up?
That's the real reason perk diversity is good for the game. If the other team has to rub brain cells to figure out the opponents kit, they end up with better outplays and a more rewarding game.
Distortion is strong as it is but if it takes someone's OTR, or their Circle of Healing, or their Exhaust perk? Delicious.

Distortion is fine please. My fav perk finally gets a buff (Which was much needed considering how many aura reading perks there are...) and I just knew someone would complain about it eventually. Plz let me live.
The perk was ok before, but it NEEDED a way to earn tokens back. With perks like Undying, Lethal, that Dredge locker perk, etc, your tokens would be devoured before the game was even halfway over. Idk this was just a necessary quality of life fix imo.
