Is Garden of Joy the worst map in the game?
This is something I've been thinking about lately.
Yeah, yeah, I can see it now. "What about RPD?!" But let's be fair, at least that and Haddonfield, while abominations, are licensed so you could somewhat excuse them being terrible.
Garden of Joy isn't that. It's original. Fully within BHVR's control. And my god, it is a terrible, painful, and borderline broken map that should've been sent to the scrap heap.
Yes, it looks cool, and see a lot of effort went into it from an artistic standpoint. BHVR is good at that and always has been.
But my LORD, playing on it is so awful. Everything spawns next to each other in what feels like one giant loop akin to Old Ormond. Remember that? I remember Ormond; that map that managed to outclass Haddonfield in being the most unfair map in the game. There are dozens upon dozens of tiles directly next to each other, and they're not even like Current Ormond tiles where they're either unsafe or only semi-safe.
Do you like Billy? Blight? Huntress? Literally, any killer that has a power that interacts with the environment? Well, the joke's on you! We have bushes with a collision box that's larger than Clown's belly after a night at a buffet.
But let's talk about the real issue. The big one. The one EVERYONE talks about when they talk about the map. The main building.
First off, you're lucky if you can even see in the building. For some reason, some platforms (like mine on PS4) can see perfectly, while others have it pitch black where you can't even see your weapon in your hand. Apparently, this is considered a "bug" and one that's existed since PTB.
But for some ungodly reason, this map has multiple god windows. These windows don't have some sort of drop next to them or anything. There are not even breakable walls. You have to vault the window.
But the real kicker? If ran correctly, that building is a true infinite. No, seriously. Chase gets broken (especially if you're 110), BL cannot build, and the Entity blocker cannot kick it. If you're lucky and are close enough that you can keep chase, you will likely need Bloodlust just to finally get a hit in. It's a miracle that most people don't know how to run it right, and even then, that building is still very strong and annoying. This is something even Eyre of Crows, another terrible map, managed to avoid doing.
It's absolutely astonishing that this circle of hell managed to see the light of day. I remember when people argued for the removal of Bloodlust, calling it an outdated mechanic, and then this thing shows up.
Edit; people are mentioning Badham and Gideon. Guys, we know. Literally every licensed map is a steaming pile. I was talking mostly original maps

Together with The Game and the Crotus Prenn Asylum with its infinity loop, yes.
Stop blaming RPD, I fckin LOVE this map, its my favourite map to play on both sides.

The map is very close to being fair for both sides. I would take away 1 or two pallets next to the shack, and remove the pallet on the main building porch. Possibly throw in a hole near the gen window in the upstairs exterior wall.

The thing with GoJ is that there are some really powerful loops/pallets, but there's also a lot of dead zones (similar to Haddonfield rework). There's a lot of pallets, but only a couple of them are really strong, whilst others can be won with one mind-game.
The worst maps by a country mile are The Game and Badham. Badham is beyond broken: it has four god buildings (the school, the main house, the smaller house with the basement, and shack), as well as a bunch of really safe pallets and loops. Not to mention it's really big and convoluted.

Nope - RPD and Midwich are the worst two by far.

And why is it so huge?!

This. The Game is completely inexcusable in it's current state as if the amount of pallets is justified because there's hardly any windows so really bad survivors can theoretically run out of resources. All variants of Badham are really awful too for the reasons stated.
RPD also has big problems in it's... 'directional' flow and it's way too big. I understand the love it or hate it relationship people have with it though.
Garden of Joy does have serious problems but I think they can be resolved fairly easily, the solution isn't basically rip the map apart and change almost everything about it. The main building is a big issue for sure and it's god windows with no negotiation. It is similar to Haddonfield in that if you're against competent survivors you are in for a horrid time almost as much as the Game and Badham, However against the majority who don't know how to exploit the map they aren't quite as bad compared to the game where it's playstyle is spelled out in big block letters with only very new players getting lost or something. For everyone else with basic mastery, walk to pallet drop, walk to pallet drop, makes up almost the entire game play.

The Game is way more manageable now that the hold W meta is severely nerfed and pallet breaking speeds are better, plus there are some killers with pretty strong antiloop that can mitigate the strenght of a lot of the loops there. It's a pretty boring map but it's definetely better than Haddonfield or Garden of Pain.
But yeah, Badham is absolutely busted, big as belgium while also having some of the strongest loops in game.

I liked Garden of Joy until I tried playing Bubba and Billy on it. The hitboxes on the foliage are WAY bigger than they look, making it way too easy to bump into crap. With the amount of clutter everywhere, good luck getting around the map with Billy.
