Data doesn't lie, proof DBD is dying fast
Just kidding. 50k concurrent players on steam during a random Monday. The verdict is in. People are playing the crap out of this game and the devs hard work on this last patch has not gone unappreciated. The forums are not the game. Want proof? Read the topics and comments then look at the viewership.

All the angry bully squad survivors are leaving cause they can’t be ######### anymore, or it’s just regular people that are tired of being tunneled and camped and are quitting. Or it’s just people who are burnt out of dbd

What are you trying to prove with this thread exactly?

I am having a lot of fun. I am off a break specifically BECAUSE it is fun. I could have just kept chilling. I still have to finish my Genshin Event, after all. I am playing more survivor than usual as well. Usually I am kicking and screaming to play that role, but now I want to. No idea why, though. Maybe just because the challenges are doable and there are no cringe ones.

Data might not lie but the people can change the data to suit any agenda they wish.

Game is trending at 50k-ish users per 24h period and still in top 20 (sometimes top 10) on Steam depending on time of day.
I'm personally having a good time - Doing good in both roles, doing my tomies (sorry to my homies T_T), and overall having a chill time.
Doesn't really seem like the playerbase took any sort of meaningful 'hit.'

Prove? Nothing. Nothing gets proven on internet forums. But there's a lot of doom and gloom about DBD from angry survivors who blame everyone else for their troubles, and I'm reminding people the game looks plenty alive and well. Thriving even. The changes were good, and the number of players supports that claim. Supports. Not proves.

Almost like there is no other game of the genre to switch to. I feel like you're making this thread out of bad faith almost like a "gotcha" but it's not as good as you might think.

Agreed, online forums generally have a disproportionate number of disgruntled folks, since people who are okay or pleased with the state of their game generally aren't as motivated to run online to talk about it as displeased people are. It's just human nature.
So yeah, probably a much higher percentage of unhappy folks here than out in the wild. Forums are definitely not statistically representative.

its to be expected that a major shakeup will lead to hiccups and growing pains so people automatically declaring the apocalypse are just being overly dramatic.
At least give it until the first corrective patch before signalling the End Times

Ill be honest, you got me.

I took a break from the game also and started back to LOL. I chat on the boards but don't really have any interest in coming back to the game at this point. There's just too many toxic people playing DBD anymore. I can't believe that DBD has more toxic players than LOL but they do. It's like some people's job is just get on DBD with the sole intention of being toxic.

It's over some people's heads!

I feel if the numbers had dropped you would be pointing to the latest patch as the exact reason behind it. I mean no disrespect but you can be a bit of a cherrypicker
4 -
Maybe stop feeling so much, it leads to assumptions.
2 -
He's saying feel because he recognizes he's giving you an opinion. Most people on the forums act like their word is tempered fact.
3 -
That's not really an argument anymore. There are tons of games in this genre now.
Evil dead is not out that long and VHS is in early acces now if i'm not mistaken.
It's not that there are no alternatives. It's that DbD is just better. For all the issues it has. At the core it's just a supersolid game
3 -
Nice bait click 👍️
You got some very disgruntled posters with it, whom seem very disappointed to not have another doom and gloom echo chamber to feed.
I've had some fun but went camping instead over the last week so haven't played for a bit.
But I'm back, so now there is 50'001 players.
4 -
Is 50k a lot or not? I dont get it lol

Oops. It's on its way up. Higher than most months averages and it's just a weekday

I can't wait to kill you!

I usually look at:
If a game is decently placed (or even existing, really) on that list, it's doing fine for viability, as that's compared to ~50000 other games on the platform.
Mind you, this is Steam exclusive, so it doesn't take into account Console (vast majority of player base) or Epic/Stadia where the game was available for free for various reasons/periods.

Actually is around ~42k which is more or less the same amount for the entirity of July and a 5k drop from April (May had same numbers as July and June had the anniversary event).
But as some people said, the data doesnt mean much in such short span of time.
0 -
Steam charts isn't the be all end all either. There certainly waaaaay more people playing on a console.
1 -
Too short of a span to say. Lots of more casual players probably haven't even played the update to form their own opinion. As for me, I'm suffering grinding through the rift and then dropping the game for a few weeks.
New rift, AoT skins, coming off the anniversary, summer with schools being out, all favor the game having high numbers right now.

Wrong

Even though I play solo q only I do very well in most of my matches now. I dont always escape and I'm fine with that. I love seeing more build variety in both killer and survivor matches. I just miss bonus bp more than anything else.

I came back to play again, but I'm going to wait a bit until the incentives are back, because right now queue times are Kafka at the times of day I play.
0 -
Ok, show me the ones that have all the horror licenses, I'll wait
0 -
Fair point, I apologise @Marigoria
1 -
In the words of Luke Skywalker, "Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong." The game has been out for over 6 years, casual players have had plenty of time to form an opinion, and DBD recorded over 50 million players in March 2022 when school was in session, without a rift, no new skins, and before the anniversary.

u guys gonna kiss now

we just might

Maybe that people are still playing and enjoying the game? And the sky is in fact not falling?
1 -
People are still playing yes. Where is the stats showing the enjoyment though?
0 -
LOL imagine a bunch of miserable people logging in and spending their free time doing something they hate.
The numbers drop when people aren't having fun, genius.
4 -
If they're playing, there's two possible explanations:
- They enjoy the game.
- They are addicted to the game.
The first group is the stat you're talking about. The second group will play whether or not it's fun.

ominous... see you in the fog.
But not if I see you first eh.
(should probably curb this one as out of context it aint lookin' too good).

You're right, Data doesn't lie. This game has lost 20k players peak since 2021. And 16k peak since last month. But you said you want data right? Here you go. 96k peak in June 80k peak right now. https://steamcharts.com/app/381210#All
1 -
What genre do you consider VHS and Evil Dead The Game?
2 -
You did it! You delivered the death blow!
Except, so what? People are crying about this patch specifically, and 2021 data doesn't matter to me at all. No game stays popular forever. I think dbd is a fantastic success. Anyway we are talking about the crying over recent updates not a games overall arc
0 -
It would be pretty hard for someone here to forget the context. Anyway I'm excited at the idea of you dragging your near death body to the closest exit gate!
1 -
Numbers roughly the same because 4man swfs still playing and solo survivors moving to killer. Anyone quitting is replaced by a new player, and lets face it most of them come back.
0 -
Yeah,
I don't understand why people are even using Steam to prove or disprove DBD is failing. Only a small number of DBD players are on Steam, so to me, it just seems useless for pulling data.
I don't even know if you can use it as a sample because it's a homogenous group of computer players. Do computer players have the same behaviors as console players. I don't know.
0 -
I don't think you're very good at sampling.
It's a smaller number than console players, but it will be an excellent representative sample. There will not be large changes in PC vs console behavior from patch to patch. So when you see a sharp rise or decline in steam charts, you can assume you'll see the same basic rise/decline in overall players. You can see this when you look at various chapter releases and anniversary events.

Do they have Halloween? Do they have RE? Silent Hill? NoES? SAW? Texas Chainsaw? They don't.
0 -
Sort of feel like you're making these comments out of bad faith lol don't understand how you have an issue with OP's post
All the dude said was hey the game isn't as dead as the few people on the forums crying are making it out to be.
0 -
I ship it
1 -
... evil dead is a horror licence.
Besides that's not what you said, you said there were no options.
There are. Ofcourse if you are going to be picky that's your own doing. If you want horror licenses then you have to deal with what dbd is
0 -
Do they have those specific licenses? No.
Do they have other horror movie elements and licenses? Yes.
So are they in the asymmetric 4v1 horror game genre? Yes.
1 -
You will learn a lot if you read this. It will make you better at debate and it will help you understand data a little more.
