RPD should have a unique "pallet" gimmick.
As we saw in the Project W trailer, Ada is seen barricading a door...
You picking up what I'm putting down???
In place of some pallets there could be doorways to rooms that survivors can slam in the killers face. Some sort of bar could also fall from the side of the door frame blocking it after it's slammed, giving a reason for it to be broken instead of just opening it again. It'll act exactly like a pallet in terms of stun duration, and time it takes to break it, but it'd obviously have a different animation (Perhaps the wall break animation?)
Given that RPD is being reworked this could be a fun and unique gimmick exclusive to this realm, Similar to how completing gens open up paths in the meat plant (And in the removed Hawkins Underground Complex).
What are all your thoughts on this?

Are you joking? An idea for a new form of "pallet" and NO ONE is participating. Oh my god, Is this the end of the world? This doesn't seem right.
Are you guys all ok???

Would love it. we need more unique gameplay. especially since its getting stale
6 -
Right? It wouldn’t change up the game massively but it’d be a fun little addition to shake things up a little bit.

So kinda like breakable walls that the survivors have to activate?
Sounds cool
12 -
It really does. Especially if they can stun or even just pushback the killer with them. And maybe even make it so you can only lock the door during the stun animation. For precise timing
3 -
It's also a interresting choice for the killer.
They could break the wall then to continue chasing or they could choose to leave it be to create dead ends for future chases

Exactly.

The only way this could work as a unique mechanic is if the breakable doors are in places that would be very inconvenient for the survivors if the killer kept the doors intact. At this point, we would just get a lot of complaints that a survivor lost a chase early because their teammate slammed a door shut.
Otherwise, there would be zero reason for most killers to keep the doors intact, at which point you basically just created pallets that killers can’t thrown projectiles over.

sounds like it doesn't have any counterplay so no thanks

I have a perk concept for Daryl Dixon for a while now. The name of the perk is "Board Up". You see the aura of broken pallets and walls in a close range. You collect a token from the pieces and after 5/4/3 tokens Board Up activates. Then you hold a button next to a raised pallet or a breakable wall for a few seconds to reinforce it. If the killer kicks it the animation lasts 2 seconds longer. it doesn't affect when the killer uses the m2 to break it.
They could do something like that

I’m honestly surprised the only form of barricading doorways in dbd is in the form of breakable walls so I would love to see this
1 -
That's like saying pallet's don't have counter play.
3 -
at the end of doorways and hallways would mean theres more than likely not another way around anywhere near making most of them without counterplay, think of a map like gideon meat plant where you have exactly that, its just a bunch of god pallets but now shaped like doors
1 -
Yeah, honestly that sounds like a really cool idea.
When Ada pulled down the pallet in the trailer, a bunch of debris came down with it, I think that could be a neat effect also.

breakable walls with setup id would love this
1 -
Not a bad idea, you could replace what would normally be a safe pallet with what is basically a breakable wall that starts open and then the survivor can set in place.
2 -
Well there'd obviously have to be something in place to not make them stronger than a god pallet in certain areas, and making them replace god pallets in others. Like I said it's pretty much a reskin of pallets that could fit really well in the RPD map.

It’s not just a reskin of pallets though, because some killers have powers that can be launched over a pallet, legion can vault pallets during feral frenzy, and nurse can still see someone beyond a pallet which helps her plan her next blink, and some perks work specifically with pallets.

Breakable walls 2.0

Until you realize that the killer can only be in 1 place at a time vs 4 survivors, who can then proceed to start the match by creating multiple god loops that will force the killer to waste more time than they waste setting them up. That would have been preferable to how they ended up designing breakable doors (i refuse to call them breakable walls) but its still a system built around creating lose/lose chase scenarios for killer with basekit availability.

I think you’re assuming the survivors would create more safe loops than currently exist on normal maps. But what I was saying above is, in place of already existing god pallets, you had god pallets that look like walls, then it’s not that different from a normal setup aside from visibility over the blockage.
For instance, say you hypothetically replaced the pallet in the killer shack with a breakable door that starts open but can be slammed shut by survivors and the killer needs to break it down to get through. That’s almost mechanically the same as the original shack, but just slightly different because the killer can’t do a ranged attack through a door and certain perks and add-ons that impact pallets might not work on doors. But beyond that, in terms of “survivors setting up blocks the killer has to break”, it’s the same as survivors going and predropping the god pallet that the door replaced.
So it’s not looking to increase the number of safe loops or safe blockages, it’s replacing what the nature of the blockages are with some spots that might have been a god pallet instead becoming a breakable door.

i could see this being a rework for breakable walls ngl, sounds like a interesting idea

the concept was originally hinting at being able to burst through the environment like the koolaid man as a way of solving the god loop situation. Then they reworked loops to just have less godloops naturally, introduced breakable doors, then used breakable doors to bring back god loops "but they can be destroyed." the Saloon killer shack idea feels like a one off since I don't believe its been applied to any other maps since, including map reworks. The more likely situation would be that there would be positions at unsafe loops that would turn them into god loops, similar to how the breakable doors now were adapted to the Game to create dead ends before gens get powered. Basically you have to consider whether it would be used to make fair loops unfair, or to make unfair loops fair. I don't trust them to do the latter.

Bingo. Plus pre closing a door can also negatively effect the survivors because they can't open it again or bypass it like they can pallets, basically turning them into rats in a cage, locked in with the killer. It'd be more efficient to use it during chase like a normal pallet as to avoid unwanted consequences.
1 -
Which just turns it into "more pallets with little to no mindgame regarding the drop, just you cant reset them with Any Means if they dont get broken"
0 -
an easy way to bypass the vision issue is to give the doors a window or a hole that is partially boarded up, this can allow killers with ranged attacks to still attack through the door. However the killer would still need to break it, or go around.
0 -
That'd be cool. Remove some of the pallets and add doors that can be barricaded. That way it balances out and has a new feel to it. In the RE2 remake, you could barricade windows. It's an awesome idea.
2 -
God pallets already do exactly that. What killer is gonna leave a god pallet in play after it's dropped? Literally none because that's a dumb idea. The doors are practically reskinned god pallets so AMN would be useless on them.
0 -
I know they do and i know they are, you're just talking about adding more.
0 -
No I'm really not. You know that really small room in RPD that has a useless pallet because the loop is so small? Think of that but with a door and there being a big hole in the wall right next to it, it's the same exact thing. Or those long hallways where if you drop the one pallet the killer is forced to break them to keep chasing because there's no quick way around it, change it to a door and BAM, same exact thing . REPLACING those pallets with a different mechanic that doesn't change gameplay massively but still feels 90% the same is the idea I'm going for.
0 -
Unless the hole is the width and height of the door, it will still mess up some killer powers like hatchets, and Legion would still need to be able to leap through the hole during feral frenzy.
0 -
Your trust issues aside, in principle I don't see a problem with having maps that, in place of one or two safe pallets, have safe "doors" instead.
0 -
That's a really interesting point. There's some unusual strategic considerations where if they block a door they may end up have a really long way to get back to the other side of it. (I don't think the devs would want to make a lockable door that creates a situation where survivors literally have no way to get back to other parts of the map since that could create problematic scenarios where someone gets stuck and the game can't progress unless the killer intentionally breaks it down.)
1 -
A solution could be that after x amount of time the door can be manually opened again, but it loses it's ability to stun the killer. You can still use it in chases but it's weaker than if you used it for the first time.
0 -
Possibly, but it's probably simpler to just make sure the there's no dead ends with the door being the only way in.
0 -
Yeah that's another way. In the end if this EVER becomes an actual thing, I'm sure the community will let the devs know what to change XD
