You could see the killer whenever you wanted basically. The killer saw you of course as well

Pre nerf, every time you looked in the direction of the killer you would see each others' auras
Some time before that undetectable wasn't a thing and you could still stare at wraith, pig or ghostface while they were using their powers
And before that lockers didn't cause blindness so you could watch the killer from in there without being seen yourself

I can see why a survivor player would miss it, sure. It was a lot of fun to use - in the same way that I'm sure some killer players miss old Undying.
Was it healthy for the game though? No, absolutely not, and its current iteration is much much healthier for the game as a whole.

Hell no!
Just think about the object hanging on the hook while being on comms with the other survivors. They would see both the killers and the team mates auras, good luck finding someone when the know you are coming even before they hear a TR.
