Anonymous Mode VS Hide Your Name
I'm just looking for a clarification on how these two settings work.
Anonymous Mode says: "Replace your account name with your selected character's name for other players. Players who you group up with will still see your account name."
while Hide Your Name says: "Replace your own name with your selected character's name. Elsewhere, your account name will appear as "You" and will be completely hidden in your Friend List."
I'm wondering if there is any difference between the two first sentences? Anonymous Mode uses the phrasing "your account name", while Hide Your Name says "your own name" then follows up with "your account name" in its second sentence.
Now I don't think it works this way, but I was hoping this meant that Anonymous Mode just hides your Steam profile but you keep your Steam name in-game.
For example, if I enabled Anonymous Mode but not Hide Your Name. My Steam name could be "Ambrose" and I would be playing as David. Players in pre-game lobby, during the match, and post-game lobby would see me as "Ambrose" but if they went to inspect my profile it would just be a generic profile named "David King".
What I think happens though is that within pre-game lobby, the match, and post-game lobby I'm shown as "David King" and if you attempt to inspect my profile it just doesn't give you the option. But then why word it as "your account name" vs "your own name" in those opening sentences?
I understand that Hide Your Name also hides you from those you've added to your friends list, but is that really the only difference? If so, would it ever be possible to have a setting like I described where everything is the same except if they try to view your profile?

I think this is the way it works:
Anonymous Mode hides your name from other players (not including any in your SWF group) in the lobbies and on the end game tally screen. I think this also hides your profile.
Hide Your Name hides your name from yourself. That way, if you're streaming, the people watching your stream don't see your identity. Pretty sure your friends in SWF still see your name just fine, though. My friend and I still saw each other's names when we tested this out.

That is unfortunate news for me, but it makes sense! Thanks.

May I ask how it is unfortunate and what kind of mode you would have preferred/wanted?

It's unfortunate because of what I said originally:
"I was hoping this meant that Anonymous Mode just hides your Steam profile but you keep your Steam name in-game."
So I would still be able to have unique names for myself within the game, but they wouldn't be able to see my profile while in-game without me having to set my Steam profile to private. I guess I don't want to have to private my entire Steam profile in all contexts just to avoid having people spying on it while playing Dead by Daylight?
