Would voicechat in the form of an item or perk be immersion breaking?
Since we have wiretap in the game we know the survivors know how to use technology. This lead me to think why don't they have the ability to use cellphones or walkies? I think it would be cool to be able to have voice chat in the game as an item or perk to equalize the solo survivor experience with swf. Also it would be cool if the vc had static to it depending on how far away you were from other survivors with cellphone items or perks to add immersion.
-of course this would be a reason for other survivors to troll other players to I think the UI should allow you to mute a survivors portrait if they are abusing the chat
-What do you guys think of this idea?

Using the beckon emote should also make a "Psst" noise that only survivors can hear. (No more chasing after injured survivors clicking your flashlight just to get their attention)
Using the point emote should also make a "Shh..." noise that only surivors can hear.
Solo still needs more communication, but these changes are simple and universal (no need for complicated voice acting recordings).

I think adding sounds to emotes would just give immature players a way to troll other survivors and add more noise polution to not be able to hear quiter killers from coming (ex: T1 myres, ghost face, the grude)

How about proximity chat that way its fair to survivors and killers
1 -
no proximity chat sometime you need to have quiet to hear quieter killers from coming and it would create a disadvantage for survivors not being able to hear killers coming
1 -
Wait. Why would killers be able to hear survivors?? How would that be fair to solos? SWF would still have separate comms that are private??
1 -
I think we are all assuming the killer would not be able to hear none of this unless the killer had a perk to hack the communications of survivors

Any form of voice chat would be immersion breaking, not that it matters. It is kind of a multi-player staple. But as long as survivors are afraid of their own kind, we will never get it. They already know how toxic it will be based on how they see each other treating killers. Lol.

I was saying that coms from across the map arent fair to killers they shouldnt be able to share you heading with the others that cant see you. It takes any worry out of the game period

I just think every major online muliplayer game I play has vc and DBD not having it in any form is starting to seem outdated
3 -
You're right. Only the privileged SWF should have that ability. You need solos to stay weak so you can take your frustrations out one someone
2 -
Your not correct. I just find it unfair for one person to loop while relaying all your info to their others that are withing your terror radius so they know they are safe its an advantage that is almost insurmountable unless you tunnel and i hate doing that

I doubt it would ever be implemented because you can't have nice things in DBD without it becoming very quickly toxic. I've seen the end game chat and I can only imagine what would happen if you gave some of those people some form of voice communication.
If they ever did implement it, I'd hope they would at least give an opt-out option. I don't really want to hear FortniteKid68 rage over a walkie-talkie.

Okay... picture this. You soloq or SWF. (we are ignoring discord for now) and you are going in to have fun with your friends, sneaking around. They can't hear you and you can't hear them unless they are nearby in ear shot depending on how loud you speak. Fully immersible voice proximity chat. And even better, you and your friends or other survivors are working on a gen, just chatting away. Mike Myers stalking you, hearing every single word when in proximity. I think that would add a whole new value to the game. Now to combat the distance... either radios found in game or an item (run on batteries like flashlights, just longer) or a built in survivor base. Again, still running on batteries. Meaning they have limited use.
If someone talks on the radio to you and the killer is near, they can also hear the radio and whats being said.
Have a TOGGLE option for streamers and just loud background speakers. As well as those who are soloq and or do not wish to hear or speak to their team.
I think that is a pretty balanced suggestion.
I know when I SWF. I sometimes find myself automatically doing the "whisper or not talking" in discord when sneaking past a killer. If proxy chat was added in, I would 100% ditch discord to be fully immersed in the game. Make it more real. Think... Phasmophobia proxy chat... just better. Realistic static when batteries run low, fade outs, etc...
Honestly, I think that would have a lot (not all but enough) SWFs also opt in for the proxy chat instead of outside sources as long as its done correctly.
As far as killer speaking... Ive toyed around with the idea of killer having this available, Im thinking "no" as far as speaking, only listening. (before you all get up in arms about this, here is my reasoning) How many of the killers in this game or movie do you know actually speak coherently? They only listen with the exception of killers like Ghostface, and even he only really talks on the phone. lol. Again, we are going for immersion and authenticity here. I know as a killer, I get immersed in and don't speak because I treat it as real scenario or movie.
I don't know, anyone else have thoughts? Survs and killers alike.

So you want survivors who use voice chat through Discord/Skype/whatever to be banned? Because SWF get to call out the killer's plays like that. Solo's can't.

It kinda kills the emersion. I dont want them banned but something has to be done they cant be on coms and whine about tunneling. If the killer doesnt tunnel and you have coms and he still wins then you are horrible at this game.

I just want proximity chat from like 6 meters away and mutable. It would create a better cat and mouse gameplay where you can mess with each other. Think about telling a killer, "Oh, oh, oh... Uh OH! Gotta be quicker than that, Wesky! XD Or the Killer chasing you and saying, "Don't do it, Meg! Doooon't!" Downs them after because there is no pallet there and the killer just says, "Ay, I tried to warn you lol". THAT would be fun. You can also warn people that the killer is coming while you're both on a gen instead of just taking off and seeing your teammate get yanked. The only thing is, they would need to monitor the chat reports.

There's absolutely no way the devs can prevent outside comms in any way, and I doubt they'd try to. Unenforceable.
0 -
Why hide it behind a Perk / Item though?
All that would achieve is creating a must pick Perk / Item for soloQ that no one in an SWF would ever bring, essentially making it so SWFs have more available Perk / Item variety.
We need to bridge the gap between the two, not take extra measures to keep it.

Then tunneling will never end

What do you think the devs could actually do about outside comms?
1 -
Proximity chat would be amazing. Talking about the weather on a gen only to have myers sneeze from behind a wall or something.
0 -
I don't know how anyone could spend any amount of time interacting with this game's community and think any form of voice chat would be a good idea.
1 -
This.
SWF doesn't need another free thing that others have to use slots for. SWF can already mostly have Bond/Kindred/Wiretap and a map item for free if they are effective at communicating.
0 -
Oh God, please do not give them the idea to lock comms behind a paywall

I think I mentioned a mute feature if the the item or perk that allows vc got too toxic, but by using the item or perk you are opting in to have have communications. And DBD said that this is a horror game so you also have the fear of having bad teamates, so if you run the perk or pick up the item you run the risk of it being useless because the other survivors that also are using it just wanted to troll you or be toxic on vc

I think this is a well thought out idea with the batteries for limited use, and I think there can be add-ons for the walkie-talkie/cellphone that could increase the range that 2 survivors with the items or perk that allows for vc.
I think this new feature would really refresh the gameplay and add a new host of perks for killers as well to get perks that could possibly intercept the survivors communications.

exactly they cant remove the ability for SWF to use outside coms so they should just give it to everyone to make it fair

I like the idea of having a system that benefits solo players, the problem is that this game always favors the strongest part of the game: SWF and S-tier Killers, I think communication with predefined text like it has on mobile according to actions the surv would already help a lot, but I liked your idea, you have my vote

voice chat would lead to people dying on hooks the instant they say/do something that pisses off someone else (which they will) and verbal harassment. the dbd community is not mature enough to handle a voice chat system and most people would just stay mute because of that. I think a ping system with ping delays would be a lot better overall and would interrupt normal gameplay.

VC is a good idea on paper but in reality I feel this community might be a smidge toxic for it, I wouldnt be opposed to it since I dont particularly care what names people try to call me but one time a meg threaten to find my family and do certain things that are best not repeated before the game even started, like I joined the lobby thats it, I feel there would be a ton of toxicity in VC but as long as theyd be able to keep that under control it would be a nice addition. Granted it does come with the issue of people who just dont want to use their mics for whatever reason (not blaming the people Im one of them.) and being at a disadvantage, some non-VC options and a VC together would be the ideal world.

I believe, I mentioned this would be an opt-in voice chat, because you have to choose to pick up the item or use the perk to be able to use the comes in the game, but this game came out in my mid 20s and im approaching 30 so a lot of people have aged with this game so to say they are not mature I dont think that is fair. The mature people are just staying silent and playing the game so you dont notice them you just see the toxic after game

I just wanna be able to talk shite to the killer while I juice him up.

Or BHVR could calculate SWF MMR higher than it currently is (even if it causes SWFs to have a different MMR soft cap from solo Q), to balance the extra game advantages that voice communication gives. This way, you aren't giving SWFs actual nerfs, but you are more fairly matching them with better killers so their escape rate can get knocked down closer to solo q.

I mean if you follow the logic of proximity chat, it would make sense for the killer to hear things in the same radius survivors would.
That said, I don't like the idea of proximity chat. Not everyone wants to engage with other players that much. And sure, you could just not, but you know people who decided not to participate in chat would catch salt from other players for "not being a good teammate". There's a deep rabbit hole there.
I am a big fan of the icon options, but I very much do not want to participate in VC with strangers.

I think we said this was survivor only vc and killers can only listen in with a killer perk
0 -
we are as summing the survivors are communicating via a walkie/phone or perk and the killers are so consumed by the entity they dont understand English or might not have ears
0 -
If they added any sort of voice chat in-game, I still wouldn't use it because I just don't feel like dealing with the kind of post-chat toxicity mid-match.
