Its quite a pity they've given Wesker a knife
It would be much cooler if he just pierced survivors with his hand, like he does to people in RE. Knife doesn't really suit him. Its just a matter of personal opinion of course, but like I said, imagine how GOOD that would look.

I've been told that he does use that exact knife in something called "Mercernaries Mode", whatever that may be.

Mercenaries Mode is a game mode that allows you to play as different characters in specific areas, where the objective is to accumulate the most point possible in the limited time allowed. The playable characters go from Chris and Sheva to Jill, Excella, Wesker, and even Barry Burton, Rebecca Chambers, and Josh Stone. Not to mention that most of them have different costumes - and thus, different presets. Wesker was notable due to his added abilities of a Dash at super-speed, that you could combo with a knee-related melee move.
Thing is, they all must play the same, thus Wesker carrying a knife, like Chris.
It's also important to note that the mercenary mode isn't exclusive to RE5, but was featured in RE4, and became the Raid mode in Revelations and Revelations 2.

He only has tentacles for like twenty minutes in resident evil 5, yet that's his entire identity in DBD. When he was in what, half a dozen games without them? It's just silly to me.

Alongside the fact he uses it in RE Mercinaries, if you notice how he slashes with it, it reminds me of the way the original RE protagonists would use a knife in earlier games - the exact same motion.
I don't know whether this is a nod to the history of RE, or used later on, but that swipe immediately reminded me of that action.

The knife is fine. It's different from all of the other base skin knives we have.
