Facecamping Experiment Results

By now, many of us have seen Otzdarva's video on camping and discussing its viability. In it, he discusses how he played Bubba for 8 games before and after reassurance and did nothing but facecamp. His winrate (defined as 3-4 kills) went from 100% to 50%, concluding that Reassurance is making a dent when it comes to camping viability.

However, there was something bothering me. Something I'm not gonna tell you yet.

So, I watched the video carefully and emulated his build as closely as possible. For perks, I used Deadlock, Merciless, Lethal, and NWO. Very simple but effective.

However, there's a big difference. I didn't play Bubba. I played a favorite in the community. I played Huntress, using Infantry Belt and Oak Haft. Whenever I downed a survivor, I would set them on a hook, ready a hatchet, and just... sit there. Nothing more.

I should also mention for the sake of transparency, I am a console player, ps4 to be exact, and play with a sensitivity of 70%. I don't like ranged killers, so I am not a good Huntress by any means. I play on North East servers and main killer. I still consider myself a Legion main, but lately have been playing Nurse, Blight, some Artist, and of course, Wesker. I don't wanna seem like I'm bragging, but I do think I'm at least good enough to be considered in a decent MMR bracket in terms of general killer MMR.

With all that said, considering my killer, platform, perks, etc. Guess my winrate? Guess.

50%? Nope. Otz and I had different results.

37.5%? Nope

75%? No

I had an astonishing 100% winrate. Really, I did. I'd share the sheet if I knew for certain I was allowed to (mods, feel free to tell), but I can relay it.

I had 8 games. Of those 8 games, 5 of them had reassurance with 1 having 2 people with the perk, and another where one person used it twice. I also had a 59-second deliverance into a DS, all on RPD (East) after only getting a down after 2 gens had already popped. Still 4k-ed that game.

In fact, 5/8 or 62.5% of my matches were 4ks, the rest being 3ks. The maps that were 3ks were Ormond, Family Estate, and Mother's Dwelling.

Now, what is my point? What is the thing that bothered me? How do I live with myself knowing I ruined the game for 32 people?

First off, face camping is still, in my honest opinion, too viable. Reassurance can help, but unless you're running 2-3, meaning you flat-out expect this to happen, it can only do so much. Most of these games were easy wins, even when they realized what I was doing.

Two, Bubba is not the problem. Oh no, it's stupid how he can facecamp a hook, but disabling his saw will only fix him. Huntress' facecamping potential is absolutely disgusting, and I'm using commonly used add-ons that don't impact your muscle memory, meaning the "you need add-ons!" justification is very weak. I would have tested Trickster, but besides the fact, that I absolutely hate the killer and he's flat-out painful to play on console even when I lower my sensitivity, I already ruined 32 peoples' games. I didn't want to do that to anyone else.

But something to take note of? It's 8 games. The same size is very small, so take everything said a grain of salt. That said, again, 32 people had their games ruined. Of those 32, only 6 of them Reassurance which is less than 20% (18.75% to be exact). I don't even want to imagine the poor solo queues that are suffering from this the most.

It has bugged me for a long time that very often the more optimal play is to just do nothing, and sit by the hook.

It can, and very often is, rewarded way more than actually skillfully downing multiple survivors as killer.

Yes, there are killers with huge facecamping potential and huntress is certainly one of them - maybe the best. And yes, the swf I play in has kinda arrived at the conclusion that, if we actually want tplay for an Escape, we have three options: bring the comp player who can run most killers for three gens worth (which turns everyone else into gen Jockeys which none of is like a lot), bring rush builds (gen perks, wakeup, leader, toolboxes) which, again, isn't what we're into, bring 2+ reassurance and bt ... but we don't have enough people who actually have reassurance --- and there are a number of hooks that are "unreassurable", or go 'kek, aight, gg next' check who has which challenges, do as much of that as possible and then leave the match asap and forget it ever happened so there's Nothing to be mad about.
