The answer to all our prayers could be just around the corner...

.. all they would have to do is stop making map tiles random.


The game may have needed random tiles when there was few maps - this is not the case anymore.


Pallet spawns and windows should be fixed, along with the tiles. Then collect data from the maps. Then balance them.


That is all this games needs.

    They mean fixed as in static, so they always spawn in the exact same places.

    To that topic, I don't think I agree. Variation in maps is a good thing to have in the game, I don't think they should toss it away entirely.

    Things would get stale fast if it was always the same. Not to mention, it would just hurt newer players and scare them away when the game would be 100% dependant on map memorization as opposed to rough memorization that we have now. Newer players wouldn't stand a chance against someone who knew exactly where every asset was in a map at all times. Before you say new players won't face experienced players, we know the matchmaking system is flawed. Plus, some of us have hundreds of hours and still don't know all the placement types.

    They could still do random tiles, but they need to be normalized and re-weighted. The new MacMillan tiles for instance have the wrong weighting so you can get a map that's entirely one tile. Variance is good but right now there's too much variance

    I thought about hand crafted maps and wondered if hard map metas would be fun. Like what if every map took place on a very small area of the map because that's the most easiest/efficient thing to do. For every game.

    Would we all really like that?

    Balanced dbd would be a dead dbd very shortly

    It's important that things get tweaked so nothing is too under/overperforming

    But the randomness and variety is a big reason of why dbd has been such a succes despite having the same gameplay loop.

    People are a bit too invested in "perfectly balanced game" and not realising that it would get stale very very quickly

    I wouldn't say this is 'all the game needs' but yes, it would help if they at least cut the randomness down to only a few balanced maps.

    I am sick and tired of Midwich with only a couple hooks on the bottom floor. It isn't fair at all.

    I mean on one hand that would solve a lot of issues... but other would creep up over time

    So how about re-coding the game

    The problem with this is that chases on maps could easily get stale, once survivors figure out the best routes to run, which are the most favorable for them. With map tiles being random, there is some adaptive skill that plays a part of matches as well, and I think that is very important.

    Always knowing which routes to run as survivor would make chases much more boring if you ask me. So I think map tiles 100% need to stay random, they just need to find ways to balance tiles better, by not having too many strong or weak tiles on a map at once.
