Edited: I thought The Flashlight Nerf is A Good Thing.
I think is a good thing like everyone else has said. It helps with people who suffer from epilepsy be able to play the game. I mention this a while a back I have a younger sister who suffers from epilepsy. But anyway my point is everyone should be able to play the game.
I understand that some people like to play and do tricks with flashlights. I get it completely. Also I apologize for sounding rude but seriously why are people mad at this change? I don’t understand, yeah I understand it nerfs them but you can still play with them. You just need to practice more with them. I by no means am I a flashlight saver expert. In fact I’m a terrible flashlight saver. But again my point is everyone should be able to play.
Edited: I just thought the flashlight nerf seem a nice step in helping people with photosensitive issues. I just forgot about the motion sickness issues. I do hope they add more accessibility options for everyone who has disabilities so that they can also play the game and have more fun too.

Saying they did it for people with epilepsy seems dishonest when they left Clown's bottles, Doctor's shocks, Nightfall, Deep Wound, Plague's sickness, the flashlight blindness effect itself, and multiple maps with rapidly flickering lights, untouched.
They also made it completely annihilate the battery for your flashlight, inexplicably nerfing what was already the weakest item in the game.

I knew about the Doctor problem but not Clown, Deep wounds, Plague’s sickness. I guess I forgot about that.
I can see why you would mention about the motion sickness issues about them. I just thought the change seem good is all. I apologize for forgetting to mention that. I was only speaking from my experience with flash lights.
But maybe since they tone down flashlights. Hopefully here soon too that they will fix the motion sickness problem.

People are mad at this change because:
1) The patch note makes it look like this change is designed for "accessibility" when it's clearly not the primary reason, if it was just for epilepsy then they would make it only visual and optional (eg. an "epilpesy mode" in the settings) but here it is an ACTUAL game-impacting change for the 95% people who are not epileptic.
2) Flashlights don't need a nerf and flashlight saves are already hard enough to pull off (before you could use clicky-click technique if you started a flashlight save too early to delay it, now it's probably not possible anymore)
3) Flashlights are already super bugged after they keep messing with them for no apparent reason in the previous patches (currently they don't even aim in the same place depending on the character you pick)
4) BHVR prioritizing accessibility and cinematic QoL changes while ignoring massive core issues (streamers getting held hostage, solo Q miserable)
5) I am slightly colorblind, I cannot see green nuances very good, BHVR can you please remove the green color from the game so other people would not get an advantage vs. me?

Because people like their clicky click spam.

Personally, I'm more sad than mad. My friends and I goof off with flashlights at the start of matches and now that's gone. Slug races at the gates with friendly killers will be gone. Killers can no longer carry survivors around for hatch if they want to be nice.
It seems like the people who just want to vibe are suffering for the toxic people who harass killers, and for killers who can't be level-headed enough to handle that griefing.

That's what I was saying in my own thread about it, some shills for the game found that thread though.

I guess I misunderstood what people were saying. I apologize for that I thought the change seem like they were going in the right direction for helping people with disabilities.

Yeah I guess I didn’t realize that. I will make sure to properly read things carefully next time. Again I just thought seem like a good step in helping people.

Don't apologise, it is classic PR stunt strategy that these companies show.
It was bound to happen that they were going to 'do something good soon' because of all the backlash they have been getting recently over their decisions, or inaction at times. (eg. the hacker issues).
This was not a move for inclusivity because that issue has been in the game since launch. It was a move to redirect attention elsewhere.

Oh oh yeah i forgot about Slug races. Yeah I will also miss carry survivors to
hatch too. I would sometimes like to
give hatch.
I just thought the flashlight change seem like a good thing. I didn’t realize the full meaning of the nerf behind them. I will make sure to read this more carefully next time. But anyway I apologize for misunderstanding the nerf behind them.

There's no reason to apologize at all. You asked why people were disagreeable to it and have every right to.

My problem with flashlight macros was the sound was flaring up my tinnitus.
"Click-Click-Click-Click-Click" was fine, but when a macro was used to click a million times a second the sound would stack ontop of itself and it was physically painful to hear.
It was also leading to crashes.

Yeah I know but I just felt bad for those who also suffer from motion sickness. Feeling dizzy can sometimes. But thank you for your understanding I appreciate it.

I’m against it because it makes the game less fun to play and it absolutely nerfs flashlights. It makes flashlight saves more difficult and removes the ability to click at killers to distract them away from chases.
This was a change that a very, very small minority of players were asking for and will make the game less fun and more difficult for a much larger number of players.
Yet another example of a knee-jerk reaction change that wasn’t thought through at all by the devs. This continues a long-standing trend of ignoring glaring problems in the game and focusing resources on changes that very few players are asking for. This is part of the reason why all the changes that people are actually excited about either never get implemented or take forever to implement.

I totally support initiatives for people with disabilities (and so do 90% of people I assume), the problem is when this is done with incompetence or dishonesty then these initiatives should be criticized. If they made it optional I would be all for it

Sure wish it didn’t take this long to address flashlight clicking, but better late than never.

Yeah I totally get it and I also agree that that companies should be more honest and clearer on what they want to sell and give.

I suspect people are upset because they believe BHVR is being disingenuous. BHVR didn’t change flashlights to enhance accessibility—as had been previously stated, there are killer powers and other features in game that still trigger epileptic seizures. They in all likelihood nerfed flashlights because players complained about them.

BHVR is trying to kill this game slowly….from both sides

One of the most interesting interactions between survivors and killers in DbD is trying to get or avoid flashlight saves.
They're making flashlights harder to use so we'll see less of those interactions. It will make the game more boring.
If they limited the flashlight clicks to 5 clicks per second I bet that would be a sensible solution. Instead it's less than 2 clicks a second or something ridiculous and it devours the batteries.
