Sooo..Has there been ONE balanced map released?
Just a thought I had - did we have just ONE good and balanced map released in the past 2 years?
Garden Of Joy - Why
Haddonfield - God Houses,Empty Streets, Insane 3 Gen
Eyrie Of Crows - Buffed to being the best survivor map
Coldwind Reworks - Still really garbage and Cowshed is still a thing.
RPD - Kill me.
Like is there a single good map designer left in BHVR?

Red Forest

Unless you're reporting from the future; god, no.
Anyway, Haddonfield is technically balanced in that it's got elements that really, really suck for both sides? It is better than before, which is more than I can say for RPD.

Just get the offering that the basement is in the center and you have a great map control. Not in all cases and with all killer, but it can be hard for the surivors.
0 -
how are you going to use the basement offering for the map, when you don't know if you're going to get the map and can't use a map offering since you're using a basement one?
11 -
Which Red Forest map are you talking about? Mother's Dwelling or Temple of Purgation?
Mind you, Temple was released in March 2019, and Mother's Dwelling came way before that. Either don't really fall under "the past 2 years."
5 -
I strongly disagree. Both Red Forest maps are massive and have very wide gen spread. It's not like Rotten Fields where your central basement is easy-access; the maps are too big and there's too many points of interest located near the edges of the map.
They're very bad killer maps, center basement or not. Only high mobility killers like Blight don't really mind being there. If you're Clown or Myers loading into Mother's Dwelling and the survivors aren't potatoes, GG. Temple's a little better on the 'oh god why is everything so spread out' front but has stronger and more plentiful short loops, in my experience.

I'd say the god houses, which are usually right next to the gens, are a lot more impactful than the streets that can just be run across in a few seconds, swinging the map into the survivors favor.
5 -
Not really.
Older realms have the issue of being ruled by rng. You can get some fair setups on some of the maps, but there's always the chance you get something highly unfair to one of the sides.
Newer realms have less rng to them as there's much more static spawns in maps like Garden of Joy, Haddonfield, RPD, but the trade off is these maps also have unfair spawns that always spawn.
Personally I like the direction of maps being less beholden to rng, but I wish actual design into the non rng elements were better.

Ok sry^^ Then you need to hope that the basement is in the center. Which is mostly there.
And i cant understand that haddonfield is a survivor sided map. empty streets are nice to spot the survivor and 3 gen is a win.
0 -
spotting the survivor doesn't matter when they run to a god house. Spotting the survivor isn't a big deal in general, hence stealth generally being a poor strategy.
3 gens are the survivors fault, so not really something you can plan for. Especially when it takes ages to down anyone because god houses, so you're going to lack in pressure.
5 -
You need to destroy the breakable wall behind the godhouse. Then you can pretend to run up the stairs and take the shortcut. Not working everytime.
Autohaven is a balanced map too, slightly too big but it has sometimes a devastating 3 gen, too
0 -
Like you said that doesn't work every time, especially against good players who can look behind them and/or know about it. So in the end its still majorly in the survivors hands and favor.
3 gens aren't a reliable balance point, as I said it's the survivors fault for letting it happen.

Crotus Prenn is a nice map, too if you get the location with maurice.

I don't think the new map team has good notes on what made previous maps problematic. It's strange because there are examples of good map balance already in the game (Coal Tower, Wrecker's, Dead Dawg, etc). They just don't iterate on the good practices for whatever reason.
1 -
Yeah that one usually isn't too bad in my experience since they updated it.
0 -
Only played the updated one.

I mean the Red Forest with the cabin in the middle.
0 -
I meaned Mothers dwelling.
0 -
It was usually survivor favored like 90% of the maps are, nothing special lol.
They do need better map designers thats for sure. It shouldn't be this hard to find a map thats ok.
0 -
Yeah. Mother's Dwelling is regarded as one of the most survivor-sided maps around. It's the literal biggest map in the game, the gen spread is as wide as wide can be, and the main building is strong to god-tier depending on window RNG.
1 -
Ok good that I missed this experience.
Not a programmer but I think its very depressing if you have an idea, create something and then it's not balanced.

Honestly last few map releases pushed me further and further into just playing nurse. Why bother with garden of joy shenanigans when you can ignore all that nonsense. Why bother with near infinite houses in hadonfield when you can blink through walls?
3 -
remember around the first realm beyond where they made a bunch of good map changes? yeah apparently a map designer did this and then left. looks like nobody else understands how to map
4 -
Hawkins had powerful tools for both roles, except if you were playing Hillbilly.
0 -
That's expected, its very hard to get something balanced the first go around.
The real problem is that they don't correct it after. It just sits there for (usually) months if not years.

All of the maps you listed have something in common. They look rather appealing. Seriously, I hate playing on Garden of Joy but it's stunning. Concerning gameplay, all these maps have too many crazy safe areas. A big problem with Eyrie is the number and strength of all these pallets. 90% are too strong to play around and can also be used to keep holding Shift + W and maintain distance. As soon as every single pallet is gone though it's the most killer sided thing you can imagine. Reminds me of The Game.

At this point I wish there was an option to just play on the "normal" maps. MacMillan, autohaven, crotus penn, even coldwind, swamp and red forest - anything but the new stuff
0 -
The new Haddonfield honestly isn't that bad. As always it will depend on the killer, some do better than others, but in a general killer vs. survivor sense it's fairly balanced.
Same with Dead Dawg, Temple of Purgation, and Yamaoka. All relatively balanced maps.
0 -
The most balanced map is probably Wreckers Yard if u ask me.
I would consider Family Resistance and Dead Dawg after Wreckers Yard.
0 -
Nope that map was bloody hated when it was around. Like I miss it now but jesus when that map was still around it was a hellhole. I

they suck at map balancing, nothing new
1 -
Not really, but at least Haddonfield and RPD are better than they used to be.
0 -
The maps aren’t even that different so they’re just screwing up in the same ways over and over:
Main building with 2-4 god windows and 2-4 god pallets, surrounded by a bunch of strong tiles connected to each other around at least half the map, with maybe a single small dead zone in the middle.
Or it’s an indoor map which is just a bunch of small hallways and 20+ god pallets.
Over and over and over.
4 -
Not that I can think of.
0 -
I hated it for a long time too on both roles. But by the time I came around to Hawkins and actively enjoyed it they took it:(
0 -
Preach.
2 -
I don't think any of those maps are good balance examples.
1 -
The most balanced map to me is probably Sanctum of Wrath, it has good windows, a decent number of pallets, it's not too big either, making fair for both sides I'd say.
Plus, it's a gorgeous looking map.
1 -
polished turds are still turds

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I actually think that on balance, Haddonfield plays relatively fair, with open areas in the middle that greatly favor the killers, and areas on the periphery (the houses) that greatly favor the survs.
But if we're asking which maps feel the closest to balanced, I would say the McMillan maps.
0 -
Yeah, sort of. I guess you could technically say it’s balanced, but it’s not really balanced in a good way imo. But I’ll still take it over old haddonfield.
0 -
I think dead dawg and wreckers yard is fine but coal tower i dont like really, its a small map but it can have really strong loops and strong main with easy to connect tiles.
2 -
i feel like yamaoka maps are the most chill maps in dbd neither side complains about them much if any.
0 -
I get the map sucked for survivor but it was really nice for killers
1 -
Everytime i get garden of pain as a killer i just want to afk in a corner. That map to me personally is the worst. Too many safe pallets and that main house..not even going to talk about it.
I want them to redo the swamp maps but how they have been making maps i'm not sure i trust their ability to make them balanced. They would probably be full of god loops and steel bushes afterwards.
2 -
Last 2 years? No. I guess nu-Haddonfield is the closest but it still is poorly designed due to the fact that the map basically has a considerably killer-favored side and another considerably survivor-favored one rather than trying to be enjoyable for both sides at the same time.
3 -
Personally, I think the two Backwater Swamp maps are the most balanced for both Survivor and Killer as I've got a 50/50 win-loos rate to it than every other map I've played on. So yeah, I'd rather them not touch those maps. Actually, I want them to not touch ANY of the maps until they have a designated map team who actually care about balance and not just handing out wins.
GoJ, RPD, Mackmillian and Midwitch are maps I personally can't stand due to either how big they are, how dark or how confusing they are. I spent an embarrassingly long time trying to get to a generator on the second floor of Midwitch because I couldn't tell which wall it was behind...I also get hopelessly lost and turned around on RPD...
0 -
it's less painful than eyrie tbh
1 -
Behavior has been really good at designing things that are frustrating for both sides lately
0 -
It was nice for stealth killers or ones who need a small map like legion and doc it sucked for the likes of Billy Blight Huntress Oni Twins. Even on the killers who were good on it I found it miserably boring except for mirror myers, god I ######### loved that map for mirror myers but any other killer I groaned when I got it.
