Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Will we ever get more Yoichi skins ?

I understand it's a licensed chapter and all---It was cool to finally have a male japanese character in the game... but we can't dress him up. :(

I thought Yoichi (as an adult) was something BHVR created? There’s no adult version in any Ringu films.

I thought so too, but I don't really know how deep the licensing goes.. is it just the name.. or is it the whole character because of the name? I am not sure how or where exactly the line is drawn. I am hoping Mandy will see this and drop nuggets of enlightenment.

Hm, well if he's kinda like Jed the Ghostface, then they may have more skins. Ghostie is liscensed, but the character Jed is theres, so maybe?

    Probably an ugly sweater?

Pretty sure even if he isn’t from the movies he still counts as a licensed character and cosmetics will only be available with auric cells and have to be created with the license holders approval etc.

i kinda hope for at least an ugly Xmas sweater? I think almost all licensed survivors that got introduced after those started got them, right?

Adult Yoichi is technically part of the Ringu timeline since his lore takes place 2 decades after Ringu 2, it's even considered canon to that timeline by the rights holder iirc.

"Anyway, our intention was always to go after the Ringu license. It could very well have been the American Ring, but Kadokawa were interested in continuing the original story and having their characters be part of the Dead by Daylight universe."

Don't know about you, but this reads as confirmation for it to be canon.

The thing is thou, the license holders are the ones who hold legal rights to officially say what's canon and what isn't canon, not the fandom and unless the creator themselves hold the license to the IP, they don't have the power to say what is or isn't canon either.

Seeing as how they wanted Yoichi's lore to be continued in dbd, it gives it more legitimacy for it to be part of the Ringu universe than not.

Also we're talking specifically about Yoichi, Sadako 2019 doesn't continue Yoichi's lore.

Sorry but that's not true, it's not a blend of lore from multiple sources, the lore of both Sadako & Yoichi are both clearly related to the first Ringu movie, the thing is that because the multiverse exist in dbd, the most likely case is that Sadako is taken before the events of the 2019 movie in a seperate timeline while Yoichi is taken after the events of Ringu 2.

Kadokawa may be the license holder for Rasen, but it doesn't change the fact that the Yoichi we have is clearly based off Ringu & Ringu 2 (which is even stated in the article itself and is showcased in Yoichi's perk icons that has clear references to Ringu 1, even Sadako's Call of Brine perk icon is a reference to Ringu 1, as well as all of her addon icons), even the novel itself despite bhvr saying in a teaser back in December that the chapter is inspired by Kōji Suzuki’s novel and the original acclaimed film adaptation, there is nothing within the chapter's content itself that has any direct connection, references or implications anywhere that suggests it's related to the novel itself, everything within the lore, perks and addons are purely references to Ringu 1 and if there is anything tied to the novel, i have yet to find it.

Also seeing how Koji Suzuki has copyright on the franchise, it's safe to say that he gave the go ahead for Kadokawa and BHVR to create the lore they've made that's clearly related to the Nakata movies.

IIRC they have to consult the license holders for anything related to the license be added in the game

They say it's based off on the novel and the movie, but like i said, i have yet to find anything within the dlc's content that's pointing towards the novel in any shape, way or form. Everything from what i've seen from it is just Ringu & Ringu 2 references. if there is any references related to the novel at all, then feel free to show me because i genuinely have not found any.

You're right that Reiko did technically die from a car accident, while possibility of it being a seperate timeline tied to the first Ringu movie where both Reiko or Ryūji dies is there, it's probably just a mistake on bhvr's part for not being more specific about it. Yoichi gained his interest in the supernatural when an inexplicable curse claimed both their lives, as in he gained it after it happened, IE after the events of Ringu 2 since his parents are dead at that point.

Rickety Pinwheel addon is from the cave in Ringu 2

Late edit: Yeah It's definitely not a seperate timeline, it very much is only within the Ringu timeline. Only reason the death of Yoichi's parents aren't being specified is because BHVR tends to not always be heavy on details when it comes to licensed lore, sadako and Yoichi aren't the only ones suffering from this. You can see it on other licensed character's lores like Bubba, Bill, Pyramid Head and generally all Resident Evil characters. All of them don't really go too much into details of events or other character's names or what happened to those characters, but you can still tell what timeline/universe those licensed characters come from and same thing goes for both Yoichi and Sadako.
