Would love to see a dev play trickster on a controller
Bonus points if it's on a last gen console.
Trickster has been out for like a year and a half, and in that time he has had lots of tweaks, but nothing to make him easier on controller.
I hate bringing killrates up as a point of discussion, but I swear the reason he has the 2nd lowest is because of how unnecessarily difficult he is on controller. Combo that with the fact that he's not a good killer in the first place and he becomes extremely unappealing to people who can actually aim, not even talking about casuals who may play him once or twice.
Yes, he does have reduced recoil with a gamepad, but that doesn't fix the fact that randomised recoil exists and the option for joystick deadzones just don't exist on this game.
Also pls make him 115 ty :)

Blaming BHVR for controller's imperfection and lack of precision. Send your criticism to Sony or Microsoft

I mean sure, however there are many ways to make it more bearable on controller. Not like aim assist isn't already in the game anyways.
6 -
No I'm blaming BHVR for making an incredibly anti controller killer in a game with the bare minimum of controller options.

Playing killer on controller with this game should be illegal. It's more mouse and keyboard friendly than controller, which of course sucks for controller friendos.

I would say most killers are fine on controller, however some do suffer more than others.
Trickster and Oni have it the absolute worst by a long margin.
Plague is pretty forgiving, but is much harder to use on cont.
Pyramid head is worse cos you can't flick.
Nurse requires much more prediction than on PC cos you can't turn post-blink quickly.
Blight is 1000x harder, especially when hitting shoulder hits.
Twins on last gen is absolutely AWFUL.
Nemesis is saved by strafe tech.
Pinhead is much harder.
Other than that, everyone else is pretty much the same as they are on PC.

I'd love to see a developer play killer in general. I would be very curious to see what they consider to be the optimal style of play and how well they would do with say, Trapper. Some of the balance decisions that have been made in the past (and decisions that for some reason continue to not be made - why is literally two thirds of the killer roster so weak) have me questioning if the developers even play their own game, or the version that we play, at least.
And I'm all for more controller viability. It certainly feels like a handicap when playing killer.
6 -
...Have you tried it? half the nuances of his power are designed specifically to screw over controller users. I get they're alternating throwing knives being thrown ambidextrously, but its far more than just "mouse is more accurate than thumbstick by design" stuff.

Oni is absolutely fine on console. Can't 180 spin but can 90 around corners. Trickster isn't controller friendly but it wasn't awful when I played him on release. Pinhead was awkward, but again, with practice he'd be fine.

Just gonna say - if you actually think that devs being bad at a killer would justify buffs then how about if those same devs are struggling as survivors?
it’s not the devs job to be good with the game features they develope. It obviously helps if they know what they are doing - but I am pretty sure they are keeping up with the community anyways.
controller needs plenty of QoL in general. Doesn’t matter if a dev can play trickster well on controller - it’s not impossible to play him well enough especially against casual survivors

Thats not their point. Their point was that the state of trying to play trickster on controller should never have passed any smoke tests, it's extremely evident that it needs improvements. They are implying that it was just never tested.
4 -
Eh. Trickster isn’t even the only one though and it’s not that bad either.
pretty sure it was tested and just not given the needed attention as it’s kinda on par with the general controller experience.

Trickster does need buffs because he's weak, not because he's bad on controller.
The point of the post was to try to show devs how inaccessible he is on controller. I get a killer being hard, but there comes a point where you're fighting game mechanics which is exactly what trickster is. He needs to be made easier for controller.
In a perfect world, he would get both buffs and controller changes in the same patch.
EDIT: I don't think you fully understand just how bad and inaccessible he is. He is awful.

Its worse than that. As someone who plays controller on pc for survivor, I've given most of the killer roster a whirl with it and trickster is absolutely one of the worst for how difficult it is to compensate for the jitter compared to how you can with a mouse, its night and day.
5 -
I agree he is one of the worst - but not the only bad one at all. And I am playing on pc with controller as well and tried every killer.
i already stated that that’s true, just asking for a dev to play them isn’t really going anywhere if said dev has the same problems on other killers or could even perform way better than your average controller player on trickster. Just give feedback that is reasonable

They want a dev to play them in the same way as the Kote experiment: its a way of conveying to the devs that they should subject themselves to what they expect the end user to be willing to accept. Like i'm sure we all agree that controller controls for killer need work across the board, just that trickster isn't even a 115 killer so his power is his primary source of downs. It needs to be much more polished than it is, especially on a control device that is already suffering comparitively.

What do Sony or Microsoft have to do with Bhvr's design? Are they supposed to hop on in and make him viable?
1 -
No, you just have to perfectly guess where the survivor's gonna go, or they screw you out of your power hit. It's why I never play him. You have no reaction time or deviation from your initial hit direction in his power on console. It's way too clunky. Pinhead is almost as bad the moment someone starts dodging your possessed chain.

I just got a 4k on RPD with him. Loopers absolutely abuse him and yeah it can be a pain with him, but the trick is to make survivors go where you want them to go and if not, gamble. I absolutely love playing him on console.
Perhaps when the bots come, you'll be able to have a play around with it.
I've not tried Nurse or Blight on console yet 😅

this is partly why I think Tricksters seem so salty on average and will camp/tunnel and honestly I don't blame em
even throwing knives slowly and methodically has crazy recoil

What are you talking about? Aim assist is what I was talking about which is something that is already in the game and could be increased if the game detects a controller being used. Many fps games on console do it already. Also it's something bhvr would do on their end so idk why you brought Sony and Microsoft up.
1 -
Don't do this. If there is anything that is actually consistent with this game, its that one person's experiences do not invalidate anyone else's. You getting a 4k with oni on controller doesn't suddenly mean his control limitations are ok.
3 -
Would be hilarious if they would do it, match against total potatoes and 4k at 5 gens, then state that the trickster is perfectly fine as is and might even need a small nerf.

They released Trickster before even implementing Dead Zone and Response Curve options for controller. I don't understand why they won't do basic stuff to improve gameplay and user experience. They don't share the number of players on console, but we know that it's not small. Not at all. There's no reason to ignore console players the way they do.
I recently played against a console Trickster. He couldn't land enough hits to down me while I was standing still, body blocking as my friend opened the exit gate. When I play Trickster on PS4, I resort to M1'ing and almost never bringing out my knives because trying to adjust the aim mid-chase just doesn't work, DbD needs controller options so players can set the camera to respond to the thumbstick in a reasonable manner.
(I just did the Halloween tome challenges for killer on Switch and I'm in a really bad mood about it, so I apologize if my extreme dissatisfaction with the game at the moment turns this post to acid. I ####### hate killer on Switch. The framerate is too low to stay in chase with survivors, and the input latency is so bad that when I can see them I don't land the ####### hit. They have to throw the match for me to succeed at anything.)

Disregard that. Replied to the wrong person. It was meant for the person above you comment

I think one of the biggest things about trickster compared to other ranged killers on controller is the duration that accuracy is required. Like everything else like the jitter is awful and excessively tricky to compensate, but then you need to do it consistently to keep landing hits, and the longer in between the more chances of them just completely negating all of the previous ones. Like huntress isn't great on controller, but there are reasons she's nowhere near as bad as trickster because of simple things like that. Its mercifully just one and done per health state.
1 -
ah that would do it

Mathew did that once he played hag against some Korean players I believe back when insta blind flashlights were a thing. Insta blinds got changed shortly after.
1 -
I've actually had survivors disrespect me like that as well and I was still missing. It doesn't feel good when a survivor stops and stands there because they know your going to miss.
0 -
In my case, I wasn't disrespecting him. I was body blocking as my friend opened the gate. I really thought I'd get injured, and then my friend and I would switch places and he'd take the next blades while I finished the door, and that very possibly at least one of us would go down. I hadn't seen that Trickster use his blades enough during the match to know his skill level. I discovered on the end screen that he was on PS4 like my friend.
When I play Trickster on PS4, I get some survivors who'll stand there and let me hit them because maybe they realize I'm doing the Daily Ritual or maybe they just want to see what I'll do (I appreciate it, either way), and damn if it doesn't feel super embarrassing as it takes me three times as many blades as it should to injure them even when they don't move. When I play Trickster on Switch, I pinch myself and wake up because I was obviously having a horrible horrible nightmare.
Also pls make him 115 ty :)
I doubt the devs will ever do this. I'd settle for a brown add-on that lets me sacrifice his stupid knives just to be a 115 speed killer. I love the bat twirl, I will play him as an M1 killer if he's normal speed, but on controller you can't have any fun with him because his knives are designed to absolutely screw us and he's a 110 speed killer.
It seems like BHVR wants console players to feel bad for liking Trickster in any way. Next, they'll copy Hooked on You and delete your entire save file if you even try to queue up as him.

I think Trickster is fun to play on PS even though he blows ass
0 -
Lol I would love to see them play any killer (though the weaker the more fun it would be) against a coordinated survivors who have more than 2 brain cells on some huge map
1 -
That’s the problem with these kind of demands.
Trickster is very much awful and inaccessible, but demanding a dev to play them and just expecting them to perform bad is not the way to ask for improvements. For all we know that dev might be well experienced with controllers and perform well but is bad as survivor…

After getting humiliated like that I wasn't surprised.
