Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Are the devs making achievements harder and more demanding on purpose?

First I want to make clear that I know achievements aren't mandatory and you don't need to care for them. However, many players DO care and like to pursue achievements. I currently include myself among them, but I don't think I will ever get the patience to pursue one of the latest ones.

The game already has some old achievements that are hard (Evil Incarnate, Skilled Huntress), insanely demanding (Not Today, Taking One For the Team, Power Moves) and others that are borderline impossible in normal gameplay (Left for Dead, From the Void She Kills), so it definitevely doesn't lack challenging achievements that motivate players into putting a good amount of effort. But still, some of the latest realeased achievements are also extremely demanding and they may either make a player keep trying the same perks, offerings or playstiles over and over for a long time, or simply be ignored either way because they are so unfun they aren't worth trying.

Bless You: Bless a Hex totem 20 times in public matches.

This one was added in the same update that introduced boons, which already made Hex perks feel weaker, since more people started looking for totems really early for blessing them and also memorizing more totem spawns because of it. However, it got really bad after the perk overhaul. After Ruin got nerfed, it became really rare to find a killer with Hex perks, and the reason is obvious: perks that barely last for a minute are quite bad in comparison to perks that work for the whole match, and some totem locations are still awful. Ruin only used to be one of the most used killer perks because there weren't many other options for gen slowdown builds and it could be really strong when it lasted. Both factors changed.

Currently, to get this achievement you have to play survivor with at least one Boon equiped over and over until you find a killer with a hex. When it finally happens, pray a survivor doesn't find the Hex and cleanse it before you can bless it. A totem-hunting perk like Detective's Hunch or Small Game can help, but that occupies half your build already only for a challengte that you won't even progress in most games. You must repeat this 20 times.

Hiding Seeker: In a public match, end a chase against any Killer by hiding inside a locker 35 times.

This is the one I'm currently focusing on, but I must say, I'm only having the patience to do it because Quick and Quiet + Head On is my favorite survivor perk combo. People who don't like these perks that much might not enjoy it at all. 35 times is way too many, too much time a player must spend using the same perks and trying the same playstile over and over. 20 times would have been enough. Hell, even 15.

Outbreak Breakout: Open the Exit Gates and escape from either of the 2 Raccoon City Maps a total of 20 times.

And here's the one I don't think I'll even try so soon. The game has a lot of map-specific achievements. Absolutely no map before had more than one achievement even after a rework, let alone one that needs you to escape from it more than once. All other map achievements are about meeting specific condidions before escaping once and that was always fine. Suddenly, if you want a specific achievement, you need to either wait for the RNG takes you there (which might take forever) or keep using RPD Badges over and over. Still, you need to be the one to open at least one exit gate (if the killer interrupts you or is already chasing you when the last gen is completed, it's over, you wasted an offering) AND you need to escape. Repeat that 20 times. This is WAY to much. It has a escape condition tied to another condition, just like every other map achievement, but for some reason this one needs to be done 20 times instead of one. To make things worse, RPD is still hated by many people in the community and by using the offering you will be making the game's experience worse for a lot of players.

Whle "Bless You" is almost a year old, the other 2 came out after the grind reduction. Are devs making new challenges so demanding on purpose so they encourage older players (who are now unlocking every perk more easily through the new grind) to keep playing until they unlock them all?

Perhaps the developer did not create the achievement with the expectation that it could be obtained right now.

It seems to me that they want you to keep playing and before you know it, you will have acquired it.

I think that would be a good incentive for people to play DbD for a long time.

I myself will play to unlock achievements, but I think it might not be healthy to be too adamant about it.

Love to have the garbage Outbreak Breakout achievement be on the worst map in the game that they somehow made even worse with the updates. Definitely don't want to kill myself IRL every time my solo queue teammates leave me to die on the hook while they escape on that map. /s
