Can we settle this once and for all?
Waving your arms on hook means:
A) Nobody is coming to get me (for the teammates who thought someone else was going for the unhook)
OR
B) The killer is facecamping me
Because I've been using it for A and have understood others using it for A but I know OG players use it for B

how about
C) i'm bored waiting on hook im gonna wave my arms like i just don't care
But yeah it is a problem i find. Best solution if your constantly in this situation is to run kindred so everyone knows if the killer is camping and waht everyone else is doing at the time.

Wait, what?
I thought that by doing this, I had a chance to fly off the hook, like a bird... so I was lied to...🤔
6 -
I always do it when a killer is near and it’s unsafe to unhook.
4 -
For me its always meant B killer is facecamping.
I've been playing since game came to consoles & its always going to mean that.
Though everyone does whatever they want & since probably 99% of players never come here always will.
In my normal build I always run kindred so my team know anyway but I still mini wave my arms & to let them know, that or telling killer to suck it
2 -
I do it as a warning sign, whether the killer is face camping or if the area has been trapped.
Otherwise, I have been doing like 90% of the unhook action, canceling it before taking the chance, in an attempt to tell the team that there's nobody nearby to save me. Half the time they know that though, as they're all working on the same gen.🤡

I mean you alredy described the issiue. Without kindred waving arms can mean "please rescue me" or "he is camping me"
two completely diffrent meanings for the same animation, like. People still aint gonna know to rescue or genrush now.
3 -
Quick and rapid waving = Killer camps
Long and delayed waving = No one's coming.
That's usually how I see it.

I always thought hook dancing meant "come and get me cause no one else is".
4 -
Always use it for "killer is camping", I didn't even know it had another meaning.
2 -
Waving your arms rapidly means the killer is camping or still near me.
Grabbing the hook for a few seconds and letting go just before the bar is full means that it is save to unhook me.
4 -
Both, short strokes when the killer is near. Long strokes when my timer is going to end and nobody is on the way.
3 -
I show alternating times of quick arm raises on the hook and times of doing nothing so that everyone but me can see it as meaning either A or B.

It was originally B but it seems to have changed to A over time. Probably in part due to newer streamers, who I notice tend to use it to show impatience

For me it has always been B. A survivor that wiggles even though i´m clearly on the way to unhook = killer is camping.
A) simply makes no sense, as everyone sees that you are hooked. Why flap with the arms? We know you are hanging around.
Oh and while we´re at it. Please don´t attempt to unhook yourself if someone has almost reached you.

You'll never get consensus on this.
Some people think A makes sense, others think B makes sense.
If you really care about sending other survivors this message, run Kindred.

Kindred my friend, Kindred

I've always known it as "I'm getting camped" from 2016, but I am also aware that somewhere over the years it's become "Save me", which kinda makes it redundant.
It's why I tend to run Kindred in solo queue these days.

Quick waving = Killer is camping
Long waving = Please come and save me
5 -
Mindbreaker kills. So many never get saved because someone on a gen is not paying attention to the status icons.
4 -
Yeah...if you think that fixes the problem, you're funny, kindred helps like 1/10 times, everyone else will still ignore you even if they don't see killer aura
At this point I feel like I need to run open handed to show my teammates THE KILLER IS NOT NEAR ME
Gosh, irritating sometimes

I do it and ride as close as possible to kobe'ing so my teammates know I'm playing a dangerous game.
0 -
Same here, and i always kept it kike that when i was still playing.
Sure sometimes people send me a angry message why i didn't go for the save when they were waving rapidly.
Well then don't signal that you are being camped and i would have came for you 🤷🏼♂️

It has always been that the killer is facecamping you.
1 -
Kindred should 💯 be basekit. I don’t know why it isn’t
1 -
Absolutely A - impatient waving my arms like "HELLO! Nobody is gonna help me??"
1 -
I explained why in the original post: 'for the teammates who thought someone else was going for the unhook'.
0 -
I usually do the mexican wave when I want an unhook.
0 -
B/C : The killer is near.
0 -
No silly I means the Killer is giving yoga instructions and I'm trying to keep my gains
0 -
This still could backfire. The person that goes for the unhook could think that the killer is camping and go back to the gen.
0 -
I've stopped doing it. I've played since around Silent Hill release and knew it at "killer is camping", that's how it was explained to me then. However, I noticed that people that came in last year or so definitely picked it up the other way round.

Back in the days waving your arms on the hook always meant "Killer is close, do gens!".
That's how i can tell a player is a veteran or not. Best scenario is either A) or B) btw, just bring Kindred!
0 -
I know... hence the original post asking which the community thinks it means. I'm just explaining to you why someone might do A if 'everyone sees that you are hooked'.
0 -
Also c) one guy is already comming for me and you can stay on gens. Have seen it several times when i came for the hooked one (so it coulndt be a)) and no killer was there (so it couldn´t be b)).
Also seen it used for d) trapper (or hag) put a trap around me, be careful.
0 -
I usually use the arm waves for camping and killer not near just depends on how man arm waves I doing in quick session
Like if I do one or two means killer is near If I do 3+ it means get my ass
0 -
Oh ok!
As a community, we really need to have a consensus in this. As it could save a lot of time for everyone.
1 -
D only if the survivor is close to you that you need to start waving rapidly.
If they are to far away they might think the killer is back and staying at you or around your hook.
If they are close and you suddenly start waving rapidly then they can see the killer is nowhere to be found and know it's to warn about a nearby trap.

Yeah, I run Third Seal nowadays not just because of that but because Windows of Opportunity is the second most used perk in the game after Dead Hard. Blindness cancelling that and things like Kindred and Wiretap, etc, is kind of satisfying. 🙂 (I’m going back and forth on whether I run Fearmonger or Blood Echo currently to counter exhaustion perks. Usually I go with Fearmonger because it’s more reliably on but I’m giving Blood Echo another try simply because in theory its Exhaustion can last a lot longer if you can keep everybody Injured. I’m not sure I’ll stick with it though since its so conditional. 🤷♂️)
0 -
Yes, but how does the guy a little further away know that?
0 -
that how it should mean.
0 -
I mean if the person coming for you can see you and then you start rapidly waving, then they know it is about a trap.
If you do it without the person able to see you than you're giving a wrong signal and big chance that person stops and waits or they run back to a gen.
Obviously when 2 survivors are coming for the rescue than the same still apply and you do it when they can see you.
If you want every survivor to know what is happening than you should run kindred, then they also already know there is a trap near you.

Because it's there to equip. No more perks need to be basekit. BT as basekit was fine, although making it the full version was unneeded. UB becoming basekit is going to be interesting, especially with buff the actual perk is getting. But I'm not a fan of perks becoming basekit because of people that refuse to equip it. Kindred basekit is just way too much info in a game that already has too much info going around usually one way or another. Even I'd the killer isn't camping, it still gives info on which way they're going before going out of range. Game is balanced around minimal info. Anything aura reading should NOT be basekit.

I was taught that it meant camping, and that's how I used to use it, but over time I've started to use it to mean "I'm impatient." The thing is -- it works for "I'm impatient." If my teammates are ignoring me, they generally stop ignoring me when I flail.

C) is the right answer
0 -
I always see it as "Come get me".
0 -
"Come get me, nobody is coming towards me"
0 -
I've always done it the opposite where quick waves is hello someone needs to get me. And long waves almost doing the unhook attempt means killer is here and also has the added benefit of making lots of noise to hopefully annoy/distract the killer.
