How does killer MMR work?
Specifically is it different for each of your killers? I've noticed on killers I haven't used or levelled much I'm coming up against extremely low level survivors some of whom are obviously very new to the game based on how they play. (No chase skills, missing loads of skill checks on gens etc)
Whereas on my regulars I see a lot more experienced survivors and bully squads.

"bully squads"

Anyone with anything useful to say?

Yes it's different for each killer, but only to an extent.
From what I understand, all your killers are kept within a certain range. Lets say 200 arbitrary units. So your highest level killer might be 1600, then your lowest killers will be 1400.
Depending on where exactly you land, that may or may not make a significant difference to your matchmaking. But if you're roughly in the middle, you'll probably find that your top killers are able to match with higher level players but not the lowest levels, while your bottom killers are the opposite.

The devs have commented that killers actually do have truly independent ratings, the only thing that changes is when you first play a new killer your initial rating is based on the ratings of your other killers. They said it’s something like you normally start at 650 with a new character unless you have a killer with a 1600+ rating in which case your new killers start at 1200.

I can tell you that they have since made it so that if you have any killers above the MMR cap, all of your new killers will also be above the MMR cap. Each killer retains it's own MMR but if you are over the cap, then most likely all of your killers are also over the cap.

I bought a new account on PC a few weeks ago (I've played console for a few years) & naturally I had very easy games at the start due to being low MMR & having some experience already. I probably won about 20 games or so before actually facing decent teams. I was quite surprised when I started using Billy that I was matched with a full SWF all 25+ prestige, even though I had never actually used that killer before. He was basically running 1 tier 1 perk and it still matched me with that team.
I'm assuming I probably reached the MMR cap with 1 killer and as other have mentioned it then adjusted all my killer MMRs to be a few hundred points below that. I'm pretty sure it's not that difficult to reach the MMR cap & once you do you can effectively be a 1600 rated player and face players that are like 2500 because once you reach 1600 then you get placed with anyone from 1400 to whatever the maximum MMR is.

Given my experience, it doesn't.

How does it work?
Well, in theory you get assigned a number based on the values of your other killers when you first start playing, and every time you kill 3 or 4 survivors, that number goes up and every time 3 or 4 survivors escape, that number goes down. Every killer you own has a different value so you'll play against weaker teams when you aren't good with a given killer and stronger teams when it's the opposite?
Or do you mean how it works in actuality?
Because in actuality, killer MMR does do anything. The game just pairs any available killer with whatever survivor group has been waiting the longest. Doesn't matter if they're MLG 360 No-Scope Pro or if they've just downloaded the game for the first time. It's just "fill the lobby to reduce the wait."
Your numbers don't matter as killer.

mmr?

No, I think you're misremembering it, it was if you're over the soft cap of 1600 then your other killers aren't at 1600, they're at something like 1200.

I can tell you from experience, that I played just 1 game as several killers was immediately put against a full squad of people with over 2000 hours. It may have once worked like you are describing but now if you have any killers over the MMR cap, every new killer will start at the high MMR cap. I experience this on Pyramidhead, the dredge, sadako, hag... etc. I remember they used to put you at the lower cap so that you could learn those killers, but I guess they didn't like that very much. Every new killer I play now, I am thrown into the deep end. I end up losing several games just learning the killer before I start getting a single kill.

This is the information we have been given from people who can see MMR. I bought a killer during the 50% shard sale and after playing them fewer than 15 games I was back in ultra sweat mode.
The problem with MMR is that it's not fair to have people way over 1600 MMR (say in the 2200 range) playing against people who are 1601 MMR.
Essentially it feels like the devs don't care about balance. The system works for low/middle tier players and everyone suffers at high MMR.

Being against a full squad of high MMR players means very little since that often happens because the algorithm has nobody to pair them against and they end up going against whoever is available. And like I said, if your MMR is 1600+ then you’re treated as 1200+ which is in the above average bracket.

Like I said before, the devs said if you are already over 1600+ on a killer then you’ll be a 1200 by default on other new killers. And you initial games on new killers go up or down much more quickly than later games so if you won a bunch of games right away at 1200 then you could easily go up a lot higher to that 1600 range again.
Also when we’ve estimated the percentage of players over 1600+ it’s something like 7% assuming a normal distribution using some figures the devs mentioned about the average rating and how many were over the old cap. So if you’re over that cap you’re well above average.

It means a killer I have never played before was above to 1600 MMR cap. They have hinted that they changed the way your killers new MMR is generated in the past few live streams. Killer still have their own MMR but it get hiked up for people they consider "good".

It doesnt work and even if it does, its fair ti say survivor pool for your worst killer is the same as survivor pool for your best killer.
You re welcome

It is different. Generally, when a new Killer is introduced it takes about 10 to 20 games to get a group that can give me a challenge. Part of it is that it is a new Killer but I can tell the Survivors I'm facing are less experienced.
If you want to confirm pick a Killer you can farm with and farm for awhile by only two hooking. You'll eventually get potatoes that you'll have to work to keep all of them alive. As a warning, once you do hit that point you'll have to kill a bunch of them to get a halfway interesting game again and you'll probably feel like you're kicking puppies while you're doing it.
