Hook Camping now more Viable Than Ever

Me and my friend have been plagued by a Bubba(s?) all night tonight that hook camps--as expected of any Bubba player. And we know the drill, so we just go about doing gens as fast as we can while Bubba gazes into our eyes. But since the new update where it now takes longer to do gens, I noticed how much more viable it is to just hook camp. Like the entire time it took for me to go through 2 full phases, 1 gen just BARELY popped. I could see each of my teammates were on different gens.

And then I ALSO see that I LOST grade progress which I think is pretty unfair. I was found pretty quick in the game, like within the first 30s, and looped Bubba for a little bit before going down to his chainsaw and then he proceeded to just camp my hook from 2ft away. It feels pretty unfair that the killer gets an easy 3-4k simply by just camping a gen. And no one came to save me, so its not like we played INTO the camping--but it just worked out so easily for the Bubbas because the gens take so long to do now, and theres zero penalty to hook camp.

Now hear me out, while I'm not the biggest fan of hook camping, obviously its still a viable strategy if survivors wanna risk saving someone from a camping killer--its is what it is. But now that it takes even longer for gens to get done, now it feels just absolutely cheap, nearly 2 entire hook phases will go before one even gets done if you're soloing a gen without a toolbox.

Like unless you predict you're gonna get a camping Bubba, its not like we can all bring toolboxes to help move things along. Seems pretty lame that a Bubba can get an easy 3k, and meanwhile someone will lose grade progress because of an easy killer loopole.

I think it would be worth to test in a ptb hoe increasing hook times would work.

Even something like 10 seconds per hookstage would make a world of difference

Yeah it makes a huge difference, especially when certain perks can slow down gen progress already like thanatophobia, even 1 person being hooked, on top of how they extended gen time, a camping killer can basically just rank up without breaking much of a sweat even if the survivors gen rush.

To be fair I don’t generally face Bubba’s who camp. It seems like every other killer I face does to some degree, though. I recently faced a Demogorgon that face camped and two Plagues doing it as well. But of the Bubba matches I’ve had, no facecamping.

Its not so much about the Bubba--the main topic is face camping. I just mentioned who the killer was because thats who was doing it to me and its the killer i most frequently experience doing it. Regardless of killer, face camping I can now see becoming a real problem now that gen times have been increased. Unless your entire team squads up and starts doing gens together, you can get at max 1.5 gens done before the person on hook dies. Then the killer can just find the next survivor and repeat the cycle. I think I'm most bothered about the de-pip from being camped on hook. Even if I ran the killer for a solid 2 minutes, I'd of still de-piped because I wasnt able to get anything else in the game done.

Facecamping has always been viable (against solo queue, anyway). That hasn’t changed. There are several changes BHVR can make to curb it but they don’t/won’t because facecamping isn’t enough of a bother to the player/consumer base for the devs to roll out a real solution. Your best bet in dealing with it is joining a SWF. That seems to be what the devs encourage.

We still just need a band aid fix in Form of a distraction category for BP and emblem progress that gives the camped survivor enough to safety pip and something between 5-10k, just for the getting camped for 2 hook stages.

But on another note, just for understanding, HOW did your teammates not manage to pop 3 gens if they were all on separate ones?

According to you they all had a 30-60 second headstart before you even went on hook and then another 120 second before you died. Even with 90 second gen times this seems like a skill issue on side of your teammates or you left something out of them running around while you were on hook.

Otherwise it's illogical for them to sit all on different gens for your whole hook duration and not finishing them without something else interfering like missed skill checks or the killers perks.

It takes 80 seconds for a complete gen, solo, and I was able to run Bubba for a bit but not much--Im ass at looping, and he insta-downed me--so lets graciously say I bought my team 110 seconds. Idk what they were doing BEFORE I got on hook. So from the second I was on hook, I scanned around and saw 1 of them on a gen, 1 standing nearby I think considering coming to help me but since I ran Kindred they could see Bubba was camping.

Phase 1 takes 60s, and phase 2 also takes 60 seconds. And as I said, one gen BARELY popped before I died, so that stands about right since they'd of finished the gen just as I was finishing up my 2nd phase--maybe 10 seconds before my final death rattle. Ando for all I know they also could have popped another gen immediately after my death. But if you account for people running around the map just trying to FIND gens, that can also eat up time especially if its an indoor map, or just a massive one. We were on the Haddonfield map, and 2 gens were near my hook so when I scanned for my other survivors they were all pretty far across the map so maybe they had to take some time to find the gens in the first place? Not sure.

TL:DR Idk why it took my team so long to do gens. My friend was on her own gen, and she didnt finish it before I died. Couldn't tell ya why it took her longer than 2min.

But I play soloque mostly, and on the rare occasion I have 1 friend I play with. Overall I always knew camping was a viable stradegy, mainly hoping on the survivors altruism, but now it seems even MORE powerful because if the survivors aren't super coordinated, as most soloques aren't, all you ahve to do is just find one, down them, camp, and repeat. If youre the unlucky first person like I was, you're punished for not being a looping god and depip from being facecamped.

I never said face camping wasnt viable, its a great strategy if you want to use players altruism against them. While I dont think its the most skillful strategy, its still a strategy. And it seems HIGHLY favored against killers that can insta-down so the risk is far to great for the reward. Now that gen times have increased, and hook phase being 2min or longer depending on perks, even if you gen rush you're hard pressed to punish a camping killer. Even if you all HARD gen-rush and manage to pop 3 gens while the first survivor dies, the killer will still at least get a 2k if not a 3k before all gens are complete and the user can pip up pretty easily with that, at least until gold ranks.

The only 2 excuses for not at least getting 2 man out vs. a hard camping killer are Nurse and / or playing solo.

Gens are a bit slower now without perks, yes. You need to split up on 3 different gens asap when the killer is clearly camping.

It was a Bubba for the times we experienced the camping instances. And it was just me and 1 friend, with 2 soloquers. Luckily I had Kindred so they could at least SEE I was being camped, so we didn't waste much time with save attempts. 1 tried for like a brief moment but Bubba scared her off. If everyone worked at MAX efficiency and all got 1 gen done while I went through both hook phases, the killer would at minimum still get a 2k--which is enough to pip in most ranks. So very low effort for relatively high reward.

Kindred, very good. Sometimes the team just need to recognize that there is no way to safe someone, esp. vs. a camping bubba. The only reason he does it is he learned THAT IT WORKS most of the time as many survs are very altruitstic. When i die like a martyr for the team, allowing them to finish the gens and get out, that's a win, at least a draw in my book.

I think my biggest gripe is that I was de-pipped for being face camped. It seems extremely unfair to a player to be punished for a tactic like facecamping. Like i wasn't bother about the face camping because I knew as a whole the team would "win" even if I didnt escape so I was doing my part and just making the hook phase last as long as I could make it go. But it sucks to be caught out early game and punished with a depip when all the killer did was literally just stare at me and they get a pip-up as a reward.

instead of going down as survivor at 5 generator, try going down at 2-3 generators. Like that, your teammate can finish gens and the killer will lose for camping 1 spot. You will die but your entire team will escape.

The depip problem is issue with old ranking system and current ranking system, its because dev balanced it off 1vs1vs1vs1vs1vs1 instead of team-based system. they're still punishing you for dying in upcoming system but that is its own thing. the emblem system was never updated to reflect team-results. you can largely ignore emblem system depip's towards facecamping. its not relevant but if you play a lot of games and you on average pip, you will eventually get to rank 1 because not every killer with facecamp depip you.

Okay? Not how you explained in your og post:

Like the entire time it took for me to go through 2 full phases, 1 gen just BARELY popped. I could see each of my teammates were on different gens.

Thats why i asked because you made it sound like they were on gens for your whole hook duration, which is then impossible for them to NOT finish their gens in those 2 minutes.

The solution is so simple. If a killer is within 24 meters of a hooked survivor, the timer is slowed, the farther away he is, the faster the timer goes.

This is a no brainer honestly. Gen times were increased, of course the hook phase duration needs to be increased as well. Camping was already complained about a lot before the 6.1.0 update, and then BHVR actually just buffed that strategy.

That in addition to removing hook grabs would already go a long way. Camping wouldn't be nerfed into the ground or anything, but it would at least be a nice start.

bro are you frfr XD "oh just DONT GET CAUGHT its SO SIMPLE just LOOP THE KILLER for 2-3 gens and THEN GO DOWN" okay ill try that next time. ty. i didnt think to just NOT GET CAUGHT. my bad.
