If you lag, you have a BIG advantage

For some reason, a lagging killer can hit a survivor from miles away and a lagging survivor can get the killer stuck in the pickup animation and in the hooking animation. Why is that a thing?

in the killer's screen that survivor is still near them, while on the survivor they are away and yes while it can give some advantage (lag switching which is cheating )

sometimes its more annoying than useful like hitting a survivor, hearing the scream and them not getting hit or downed

When i played killer, i occasionally ran into survivors that started lagging and getting a really bad ping as i wounded them, so they were teleporting all over, i left the chase and their ping went back to normal. Later in the same game, as i wounded them again, the same thing happended again.

It's kind of funny because the laggiest of the laggiest killers will hit you from the other side of the pallet and it won't be validated because they never got stunned by the pallet.

I always wonder what it looks like from the killers POV in these situations. All I can think is: this killer must think they're the best player in the world getting all these easy hits all the time.

Yeah hit validation is a huge lie for anyone who knows the basics of how a server client communication works

They can come up with all the excuses about latency they want, we all know they're making them up when it's pretty clear who's the player with the bad connection

When ever this happens I report them for cheating: lag switch and teleporting.

Because the server does not ask for confirmation request of the Survivor's game, if it did it would take too long to confirm a hit.

There's actually pros and cons for a lagging killer.

While they gain an advantage at choke points like narrow gaps, pallets and windows, in open areas survivor pathing can be erratic and even involve teleporting effects, making it difficult to track them in longer chases.

With no video evedence they dont do nothing about them reports.

Also, i dont wanna spend 15-20 mins just to report a cheater, its way to complicated.

if it was simpler and they provided us with the means to do what they require of us to report, i would.

When I lag I simply miss skillchecks.

Its weird because on paper, laggy players have a massive disadvantage in every way. The fact that all forms of validation are timestamped means they objectively have their inputs and interactions de-prioritized. The issue is that the visual desync is so strong that people are reacting to things that already happened, which is why the lag seems to hold the advantage. Im pretty sure they've done a few rollback re-sync methods to attempt to address it (like the occasional rubber banding) but its like the server itself and what any given player sees are all running +/- X seconds of each other. I feel like depth perception is the thing that suffers the most from it, so I've just made like a side mirror and gotten used to always assuming things are closer than they appear.

Well it depends. My internet is pretty good, but I sometimes have issues with my router at night. And from it, I have determined that DBD has this "sweet spot" when it comes to lag.

If you lag too much, the game becomes unplayable from rubberbanding and teleporting. But if you lag just enough, you can get hits you shouldnt be getting. Ive even seen people VPN and lag-switch intentionally to reach this sweet spot.

It's kind of dumb that DBD has server validation yet there are so little server-side checks for this kind of stuff, DBD is bare minimum when it comes to checks.

Gears of War is infamous for connectivity discrepancies and punishing players with low ping while simultaneously bailing out those with very high ping. If I have 60 ping but you have 200-1000 (Not uncommon to see, Gears is very popular in South America and matches people from all regions with no parameters to prevent them from queing while lagging) then I can literally shoot you point blank and it won't register however you can shoot at the air where I was previously standing and get falsely rewarded with the kill

Okay but I've never played Gears of War and therefore DBD is the only game I've ever played where having poor connection is an advantage

They're the only two mainstream games that allow that to happen
