All winter cosmetics are leaving, really bhvr?

Announcing that you are going to make cosmetics available for non-cash purchase after one month and then making cosmetics only available for a month IS A SCAM TACTIC. Retroactively removing existing items for the sake of doing this is even more so. BHVR, you are above this sort of thing, do not emulate companies like Ubisoft or Epic Games.
7 -
*the company, not the developers as in the employees themselves
0 -
U can buy krampus with iri shards
0 -
seasonal items has been a thing for as long as people had both markets and holidays.
Least entitled dbd players lol
1 -
That doesn't make it good?
4 -
It's a non issue and doesn't matter. If you don't want it all you have to do is not buy it. If you want it buy it. People are saying borderline tinfoil hat level stuff about this. It's a holiday item being sold in said holiday, it's cute that's all.
3 -
Clearly you need to catch up on previous threads, because you couldn't be more naรฏve than that.
3 -
what am i missing? It's people saying utterly insane stuff like "you NEED to get it" and "It's a SCAM!!1" literally just don't buy it, you're not being tricked into it, there is no deception. It tells you EXACTLY how these seasonal items work. Having no self control and buying anything shiny you see isn't a "scam"
5 -
Utterly insane just because you donโt agree with it?
also no one (or at least not many at all) said that anyone needs to get it.
people are allowed to voice their opinion on this and the mods as well as BHVRs community team/Mandy are always stating they appreciate (constructive) criticism and feedback..
3 -
Yes it does. More money for them, more likely to get stranger things back. Isnt that what ppl wanted in the 1st place. Lol
2 -
No it is insane that people think bhvr is gonna to not act like a company who wants money. This isn't an opinion it's simple fact.
2 -
Ridiculous to make older cosmetics retroactively unavailable. by all means, do this with all cosmetics moving forward, but thereโs no reason to take away old cosmetics.
4 -
but thatโs not really the point of anyone really. There is still strategyโs for a company to get money without making previously all-year available stuff seasonally available.
Actually many of the people against these seasonal items stated outright they were okay with the auric cell exclusive cosmetics for example.
1 -
Wow, BHVR... This is a whole new level of BS, even for your standards.
5 -
It's been a while

Ah, hello my friend.
It was about time I made an appearance.
0 -
I figured one of us would eventually make our way out of the woodwork in response to the events happening with the cosmetics, it was just a matter of who. I myself considered speaking but decided to hold my piece
0 -
It appears you were right, my friend.
Well, I hope a ghost of the past like myself is still welcome around here :)
1 -
I think we about to find out
0 -
i wont have enough iri shards before he leaves in january.
3 -
The funniest part is, after all the outrage, and after all the tears, you folks will STILL throw money at BHVR and feed their marketing strategy, because apparently, something HORRIBLE will happen if you don't collect the entire set - you'll MISS OUT!!!

I don't think you get why ppl are mad xD.
That the new cosmetics are seasonal is a bummer but understandable. HOWEVER old already released cosmetics are being pulled out as well. With 0 confirmation if they will be auric cells only. Not to mention that they previously stated that ALL ORIGINAL cosmetics become purchasable with shards BUT NOW NOT ALL OF THEM bc seasonal cosmetics are somehow extempt from that.
Do you see the scummy behavior or still are blind?
They always say something but twist it two posts later. It feels like right hand has no idea what the left one does.... And it's very very sad. Everytime you think they listens to community they pull stuns like this.
5 -
It's been SIX. YEARS.
If you've been here a while and haven't gotten the old seasonal outfits, clearly they are not a priority.
If you're new to the game, you'll likely understand the concept of seasonal items being available for a limited time.
0 -
Well, I must say this is really disapointing (With all respect to you, Mandy. I'm not one to shoot the messenger and I think you do a good job mantaining contact with the community).
I hope we can get at least a confirmation any time soon, because the fact that the ways to purchase them are not confirmed to remain the same leaves open a possibility for them to end up being changed to Auric Cells only.
I loved to see the apparent initiative to make all the non-licensed cosmetics purchasable via Iridescent Shards and yeah, I've noticed some cosmetics in the store actually became shard-priced. I really liked that and wasn't complaining about the limited time skins until now just because of it. But making older content limited time too is too much, and the possibility they actually lose their shard price goes against what was promised.
Again, I hope we get a confirmation of the opposite soon. Let's see if we actually get what was promised.
3 -
Hahahaha, wow. You're naรฏve.
1 -
Pretty sure Netflix pulled the Stranger Things license because they wanted to try their own gaming service, so that was not a "money" issue
Amd BTW, it wouldn't surprise me if we get ST back in the future given how poorly the Netflix gaming services went
1 -
I really don't understand why people get mad about this but ok
0 -
You're very welcome, <3. It took me a little bit to find but also wasn't too hard to find also lol. I agree that yes business do need to make money in some way or another even though us the consumers don't agree. I also agree about not giving them money for a while also. I don't spend a lot on outfits anyway since they be quite expensive sometimes.
I would just spend on what is on sale and what I like for some of my favorite characters to wear. I mention this in another post and I was thinking about getting that trapper Krampus skin with the shards I got. Yeah it will take most of the shards I saved up but I figure that way I get it before it goes away for the year and I get it for somewhat free. But at the end of the day I shouldn't and also others have to buy a outfit right away. I just hope Bhvr changes their minds and gives us back the option of buying anything we want at a later date.

This BHVR feels like a completely different one compared to the one 6+ years ago...
Or at least the decision makers feel like that.
7 -
I like how the only time I ever see the trusted tag around anymore it's when you've returned because of yet another cataclysmic decision.
2 -
From what i remember, you were a true highlight of these forums and hope you still are.
As for me showing up whenever BHVR does a thing...Well that's not true, i check here randomly from time to time.
What IS true is that so far my hopes of having a joyous return to the game have not raised at all.
Especially now that Boons are more and more a thing and Devour Hope won't keep up.
3 -
Why though.
2 -
Well, I haven't been banned yet so I can't be doing too badly
1 -
Yeah it totally makes sense to remove skins that have been there for years and make them exclusive for no reason even skins that don't really fit the holiday season
2 -
It's not an exuse, I wouldn't care if the new skins were the only ones limited but taking away skins that were in the store for YEARS is very scummy, I've never seen a game do this and it's just an awful tactic. Half of these aren't even Winter themed I MEAN REALLY PIJAMAS?! Do you were Pijamas only in winter? It's an awful abuse of FOMO. I was so happy with the game recently, bought so many skin but this, I'm done. I'm done financially supporting the game with all this going on, and I know A LOT of people that will do as well. I mean the top post of the week on Reddit is people being pissed at this. This whole system need to only be applied to new skins or better yet DELETED over all, and as long as it's not don't expect a penny from a lot of players
3 -
So you all basically lied when you said "all non-linceses cosmetics will be available with shards after 4 weaks of realse" buuu behavior, I don't say it often, even after the NFT stuff but this, it's the last straw for me
4 -
The whole thing also doesn't feel very holiday spirit-y.

If you have 10 minutes, watch this, it summarizes most of the points made in these topics.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPir_8lyhoM&t=560s&ab_channel=MintSkull
If you don't have 10 minutes, read this instead, it focuses on ONE particular problem of these tactics, but it's one of the most sensitive ones
"I've been seeing a surprising number of posts defending this kind of practice, while not really grasping what is actually happening with it. FOMO causes an irrational shift in prioritization by directly manipulating the availability of a purchase. This shift is something that your average person is able to maintain a rational perspective regarding, such as "i don't need it that much" or "I can wait for another chance later." The people itย isย designed to affect, are those with any form of impaired impulse control, or poor budgeting skills. There have been notorious GDC lectures outlining very specifically how to take advantage of these people and try to get as much money as possible out of them, with FOMO being one of the key methods. It is a known business practice that very specifically targets a vulnerable demographic.
Lets say you are faced with this situation, and have other more important obligations and are unable to make the purchase. A typical mind will think "oh well" and go without, but an affected person will start trying to readjust their budget to make it work, they may borrow money or even forgo financial obligations altogether as the need to commit to the purchase or lose out on it entirely outweighs their otherwise rational budgeting and prioritization. Its actually part of gambling addictions as well, as "the next bet can be the win that offsets all my losses" even after going into debt. It is a very real and well documented psychological effect.
The worst part is that, again, it has very minimal impact on most people. For many its not about losing the ability to purchase something like an ingame cosmetic, and they may not even see that as financially reasonable as it is. The problem is that it so very specifically preys on those who are vulnerable to the tactic, who are treated as whales (individuals who spend more than the average consumer, to make up for a lack of sales elsewhere) in the process.
Its an absolute shame how much this kind of practice is not only accepted, but even defended in the industry. There can literally be people bypassing anything from holiday gifts for loved ones to financial responsibilities such as paying their bills just to sell a few more ugly sweater model meshes and textures."

"The people it is designed to affect, are those with any form of impaired impulse control, or poor budgeting skills."
That honestly sounds like their own problem that they need to overcome themselves. This is a common business practice that existed since the start of mankind and it will never go away.
2 -
Ok, I'm on my way to sell fake pokemon cards to small children since they have poor budgeting skill and can't tell the difference between an original and a fake card.
That sounds like their own problem that they need to overcome themselves. I'm doing nothing wrong, am I?
2 -
Last time i checked and i know i am, this is an approved rated M video game. Now if you wanna do that to children thats on you. Thats more frowned upon and illegal. Youll be charged with counterfeit merchandise alongside predatory offenses to underage civilians. But you do you.
oh and i will save this as proof if you do it. Im about to snitch if u do. Yup! Try me.
1 -
Selling things to children is not illegal, last time I checked
Nor is selling clearly fake things, as long as I don't break copyright rules
But that of course was an example, I'd get my kneecaps smashed by some angry parent in that situation, and I wouldn't blame them.
Both actions take advantage of vulnerable people though, children on one hand, people with impulse control issues on the other, why should one be different than the other?
3 -
I'd say copyright infringement/violations and false advertisement fall under a different category than FOMO.
If the kid is making their own money, then they'll need to learn to budget it. If it's not their money, the parent(s) needs to teach the kid about responsible spending prior to letting the kid access their credit card.
And if we're talking about poor impulse control and "I want it now", I don't think it being seasonal or all-year-round will make a significant difference. New thing, me want now.
I'd actually be interested in seeing how delayed gratification from seeing an old cosmetic being unavailable until a future date would impact those same people who would have immediately purchased it otherwise.
Though there is something to be said about the presentation of the seasonal cosmetics. Emblazoning "LIMITED TIME ONLY, GET IT WHILE YOU CAN", is disgusting. Just mark it as seasonal. Let people learn what that means. Try to avoid words that promote a sense of urgency.
2 -
Also, let's address the elephant in the room:
They are prolly gonna mess up the coding of this nonsense, ending with people LOSING their already bought skins one way or the other.
4 -
Yeah, smart decision! I think it wouldn't be too far-fetched to think that they might do this to survivors/killers and other things as well in the future.
2 -
Don't take things that literally, it was an example, but as long as I don't break copyrights and I don't say that the cards are original, I'm not breaking the law. But as I said, it was an example to show how saying "Eh, it's your problem if you can't think straight or control yourself" is a dumb saying.
People who buy skins as soon as they hit the store are not impacted at all, that's totally true, the most impacted ones are those susceptible to exactly what you said: the "TIME LIMITED ONLY, BUY IT NOW BEFORE IT LEAVES!" part.
And no, saying "Seasonal" wouldn't solve that issue unfortunately.
And we haven't even touched on how they chose to categorize things as "Seasonal"
Idk about you, but a moose corpse doesn't seem "seasonal" to me
2 -
IMO so far as I'm aware the community has done a far greater job of generating FOMO than BHVR has done with a news article line that is easily missed.
The topic of what should or should not fit in with certain seasonal availabilities is certainly a topic to discuss. The moose was probably added because someone who canvased the store went "Oh it's a reindeer, that's Christmasy, right?". Totally understand issues with that. But I don't recall if there was any flavor text for that outfit that might suggest a seasonal association.
I do like the idea of seasonal rotations as it can make seasonal events seem more impactful.
However there is the question on if non-seasonal event based cosmetics should be seasonal releases (like the waterfront massacre sets), which I don't think should be seasonal unless they are tied with an in-game event.

a moose corpse doesn't seem "seasonal" to me
It's a reindeer.
The Meg cosmetic that's being taken away doesn't look Christmas-y or holiday related at all. A lot of those pajama sets don't look holiday-related, either. Even the newest set of cosmetics don't look Christmas-themed to me: they look more like prom dresses. Kate's is pink with flowers, for god's sake. It's just a gown. These things are deemed holiday in name only with some lore to justify it, but very few of the outfits being called seasonal involve someone dressed as a Christmas character.
Prom dresses and pajamas, what the hell, I wear pajamas all damn year.
6 -
You mean you don't wear pajamas only during December? What has this world come to ๐
/s

Pajamas made no sense to me until I saw the small Christmas Themes.
