Oh boy what a year what a year

2022 what a fantastic year it was right? Well the roots of dread (apart from haddie) and project W chapters were astonishing but the rest of the updates or chapters were straight up dumpster fire. What is your take on dbd 2022?

What's wrong with Haddie? Like perks or appearance?

Yeah I was hoping it's not that. Because there's plenty of characters I don't personally find good looking but that doesn't mean I think they are a failure as a character.

In the years since I started playing DbD in 2018, I think 2022 has been the worst of those years.

People like to look at characters they find attractive, it's why Felix, Kate, Vittorio, and Mikaela are so popular, although it's just a video game so I really don't care.

I dont think Hadie lack of sex appeal is such a big issue with her.

While it does affect her as good looking characters do sell more and BHVR is heading the sexy route (Vittorio having a half naked skin on day one is a clear indicator of things to come) I believe she had more issues than just being average looking, her background is really meh, stinks of Mary Sue and is just another "brave investigator seeking truth after some trauma" like Zarina or Elodie, the whole controversy about head cosmetics being identical and she was released close to an update (6.1) which wasnt exactly loved by Survivor mains, especially not the Solo crowd, I wouldnt be surprised subconsciously some people associate her with the update (plus many Survivors ditched the game reducing her potential users).

First impression is the most important one and hers was a disaster on many levels.

Her perks. She has by far the worst perks this year and I really regret buying her with iridescent shards because now I got her awful perks available for all my survivors.

    /eyeroll.

It couldn't be that she's been hyped up in the lore for ages, but has a really bland backstory?

It couldn't be that her perks are kind of terrible?

Most of the updates have been really solid.

Roots of Dread was not a very good chapter. Garbage map, lame and boring killer, dull survivor, and uninteresting, crappy perks from both sides.

Yes, I agree that the map is garbage but the killer is lame and boring? Yeah no.

Honestly Roots Of Dread wasn't that great. Bad perks for both sides, boring survivor with her only different mixable cosmetics being exclusives, horrible survivor sided map. The only thing saving it is The Dredge and their cosmetics (some of the best in the game imo).

Every other new chapter this year was great though (minus the dumpster fire that is Forged In Fog).

Dredge has probably been the best killer added in years.

Aside from Nightfall, Dredge is 100% lame and boring. He does nothing else interesting or unique, with a braindead antiloop power that’s boring to go against and honestly not even that good, and his teleport (when we just got a killer that teleports) is so slow that using his power is annoying.

    Shrug.

I'm not telling anyone how to think, just how I think.

I'm gonna keep it real with ya chief.

Her lore was disappointing. She released with awful perks. She isn't conventionally attractive. She had a cosmetic controversy. She was essentially abandoned for 6 months.

Like yeah, she's kinda ugly but so was OG Quentin. He was literally a goblin but people still loved him. Attractiveness doesn't necessarily equal popularity.

I'm not into Resident Evil and Wesker's face pisses me off (mildly affectionate), so I'm frankly much happier about Haddie ! Her perks are not that great, but I think she looks cool. Dredge I don't play, but it's a well-rounded killer that's strong in the right hands, and I can't see ######### during Nightfall, which is kind of fun.

I'm actually quite happy about 6.1., I hadn't played for long before, and the benefit of having basekit BT outweights by far any perk changes for me as my builds were generally unaffected (except for Ruin on Hag, as I used to run her base perks + survivor detection, but that wouldn't have held up anyway against better teams).

As I said, not a big fan of Project W, as I don't care for the characters, I'm not interested in Wesker's perks, and only survivor perks I was looking forward to were Reassurance (which no one brings as it got hard nerfed) and Better Than New (which was nerfed out of gen speed). Probably won't buy before a sale in the coming year.

Forged in Fog brings really good perks on both sides, so I'm happy with it. I'm not into medieval themes so the killer being used or not is not of importance to me. If anything, I think it's interesting that BHVR brings back difficult killers that take experience to use well. I generally like original killers more than licensed ones, so I'm looking forward to the next original chapter. I hope it's gonna be a cool creature.

Haddie has an...interesting aesthetic, but she's rare for sure.

I think a lot of people have settled into their 'favorite' survivor, with outfits etc. and it'll take either something very iconic or very different to make them switch. Vitty is big muscly shirtless dad, for instance while Haddie is...another female survivor.

Er... So just Dredge, and Project W?

To answer the question. If anything, I find that this year has been marked with a lot firsts, and with that a of indications of good things to come. More ambitious killers (admittedly with varying results), a revisited license, a manga/anime license, a meta overhaul the likes of which we've never seen before, accessibility changes, bots in custom games, the first time in well over 4 years that they've touched actual gen times...

David being revealed as the first LGTBQA+ survivor, forum updates, the newly announced action icons, more banging additions to the soundtrack, Light in the Fog...

Need I go on? Yes, they weren't all hits, and by golly we've still got a ways to go, but I am very much optimistic indeed.

oh and lest we forget, we have been blessed with the grace of the Rainbow Bird. which, in a weird way, has resulted in me becoming more excitable to actually interact with folks on here outside of the forums themselves. It's not quite relevant, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

    True !

I do have my favourite survivor with a cosmetic I like (biker Kate), but I often ran into other Kates, sometimes with the same outfit, and it was a bit bothersome for killers to evaluate who's who on the HUD. So I felt like switching it up a bit. For the past few weeks I've been playing as Haddie, and I'm quite fond of her now. =)

One thing's for sure, I'm not running into too many Haddies out there, so no accidental tunnel !

For me it's that 'spy' suit on Feng or basically anything on Cheryl. Or the metalhead outfit on Jeff (just wish he wasn't as noisy as a metalhead, I'd play him more).

It would take a pretty amazing new survivor to make me switch over...like Tokyo Ghoul or Higurashi amazing.
