Am I the only survivor who prefers Solo Queue?

I really enjoy solo queue games. I find it peaceful and zen. I regularly meet phenomenal survivors who are often better than my SWF teamates. However, when I play SWF, I invariably have a friend, who is not necessarily even as knowledgeable about the game as I am, who basically tries to micromanage and dictate my every move during the game like they are the coach of me. I have even had friends tell me what perks I am allowed to use. In SWF I also get friends who erroneously think they are higher MMR than me. Another thing I enjoy about solo queue is not always being peer pressured to do voice communications, which I often find annoying. Yet I constantly hear people complain about solo queue, whereas I find it joyous. Does anybody else find solo play preferable to SWF?

    Eh...it depends.

The sad thing about this game is that the amount of fun you're going to have in a match depends entirely on the amount of fun your opponents want you to have.

For example, yesterday I did a 'killer' day.

I had a match where I wanted to do some fun meme stuff with Wesker and a 'massive terror radius' build. However, I ran smack into a 3man SWF with 2 brand new parts, PTS, Potential Energy and a Badham offering. I got trounced and barely got to try the build out because gens were flying.

I also had a match where I...think it was an old archive, and I needed to kill everyone with a specific perk equipped. So I ran my nastiest Hag build and sent them to RPD. Turns out that I was against a duo who wanted to mess around with Head On and I destroyed them.

    Today I was playing survivor.

Had a Huntress who slug camped on her first down, which was miserable. So I switched to my stronger survivor build and ran a chunky medkit, only to get put up against an extremely chill Wesker.

Funny thing is, playing killer is always solo-q basically. I think killers and swf have a lot of control over how much fun the opponent has. But so does a solo q survivor who suicides on hook. I do get a lot of ironic experiences where I run into plague whenever I have my best healing build with a decked out purple medkit. But I guess that would happen whether I am in solo or swf. I get some pretty aggressive killers when I play swf as well. I usually use the law of averages when it comes to miserable matches. And just write off the bad ones as inevitable.

I do not hate SWF however. I really enjoy the opportunity so I can catch up with some of my dbd friends. But overall, I find solo q more peaceful and enjoyable.

I pretty much only play solo queue but I used to play SWF fairly often back in my early days.

I prefer the randomness of solo queue and I don't like having to wait for others to queue up, nor do I like to feel obligated to team mates as if I mess up I feel bad for letting down friends. I also feel SWF can be easy mode which takes a lot of the randomness out of DBD, being organised is effective but just doesn't feel as fun for some reason

Nope. I do not ever play solo q. I play killer till my SWF is on.

Is this like a sick joke? "Joyous?" To each their own, at least some people are having fun.

Don't think I'd ever describe my solo matches as joyous or zen, but I definitely prefer it over SWF. SWF makes the game too easy and kinda kills the tension. I also don't like being in comms on DBD. Find it very distracting. I think the only way I'd ever play SWF again would be without comms. It'd be nice playing with people that are reliable and I'd have a feel for their playstyle, but there would still be some mystery and tension in the match. I love when I'm on the edge of my seat in the game and constant comms takes that away.

I usually prefer SoloQ as I think it is the most authentic DbD experience for survivor. Also if I die early I can queue back up immediately.

However thanks to Eruption I just don't want to play survivor at all anymore.

I think the problem is less SWF and more that your friends are jerks telling you what you can and can't do.

Solo would be a respite for me as well if my (most regular) duo partner was the same.

As it stands, we don't even always know what perks the other is bringing because we're too busy chatting about other stuff. We're just... playing casual together. And if I want to bring exotic perks he's always "alright, good luck!" and not "you should take this instead".

I'm not big on PvP games, I usually really dislike them, I'm more of a solo games person. These are usually my relief from doing lots of social things(tm).

Yet DbD is a game that really makes me feel lonely if I play on my own. Including killer. I usually play killer while on call with friends who are playing killer on their end as well, or are on completely other games. When I play killer alone, I'll be more likely to just throw and become friendly mid game.

I've tried SoloQ a bit, but it feels that way to me. I'd rather play with a friend or two.

I respect that some people prefer SoloQ though ! Just not my thing. =)

    Definitely not me.

For a start I would not play with any friends who try to micro manage me or dictate how I can play the game. Any friends who tried that would be put in their place quickly.

I play with friends whom all respect our own right to play how we like and we're all decent players. In solo queue I am lucky to find one team mate who will do gens and not last less than ten seconds in chases with the killer.

SoloQ does have its upside. - It all depends on the expectations and goals you have. There is something zen and... liberating about SoloQ. It's just way easier to not give a f* (and frankly: quite neccessary to not get frustrated to a point where it's no fun anymore).

However, after having run into the bazillionst 3-gen-forcing killer I do prefer my swf with comms just to stick it to the next killer player who tries it. We got plenty practise the past couple months, 3gens ain't got nothing on us anymore if we come prepared. S* it b* --- is what I think. And yes, I am smug in egc ^^

One very straining thing about swf (even if a killer has no way to know cause different platform / we're all on different platforms and thus not in any friends lists) is though that issues like tunneling or general frustration seems to add up. - If you play by yourself and don't happen to be the one tunneled chances are you won't care too much, aside from a side note "ah, i guess tunneling it is... so... M1 for me... i guess...." and after it you move on. But if you have a teamie who somehow manages to get tunneled super often for no reason whatsoever they get annoyed (understandably) --- and after a while everyone else gets just as annoyed and the goal shifts from "escaping" to "protect the president" so that they are at least not out first for the third time in a row. Same for fumbled two-man-unhooks or general meta-game choices. It's often a one-for-all-and-all-for-one kinda thing - and if done correctly everyone could have been out, or at least everyone but one or sth like that --- but if it's fumbled everyone dies and swf tend to be way more upset about it and more often than not they turn to the blame game.

Once I do want to pip in Iri grades tho.... I stick to swf, at least if I have 3 or 4 pips. Cause in SoloQ it's pretty much guarantee that at the end i have less pips than when I started ^^

No I play solo survivor a lot and it's honestly just fine. I don't die significantly more often than I do when I play with friends, and in either case I don't die often enough that it ruins my experience. Probably about a 40-45% escape rate for both, which is fine.

If anything I survive more solo because I'm a cautious survivor and I'm playing for myself. When I play with friends I'm more likely to make the altruism play and trade myself to death.

I'd say a significant majority of my solo escapes (well more than 25% which is what would be expected) result in me being the final survivor, either looking for the hatch or trying to open the exit between killer patrols.

Sure I get games where my team mates are potatoes or I get camped out from the start, but they're not a large proportion of my games and they don't outnumber the good ones.

I like solo queue, actually. It's DbD on hard mode, and you have no obligation to care about anyone other than yourself.

The masochist in me absolutely loves it.

i prefer Solo, the feeling of random understanding what I want or I know what to do in certain case without anyone telling me.

Example of a Vitto used Prove thyself and Potential energy. I followed him to do Gen with PT on while he used PE on first Gen. Then we did the 2nd Gen in middle of the map, tanking a hit for him to not losing stack..

Playing in swf is fun in the part of having communicating and tight coordination, but not fun if tunneled out early and wait 20min for the game to end.

I dont think this is a matter of SoloQ being better, I think this is entirely about being around people who are toxic and controlling of you. SoloQ in this instance seems like a way of escaping that.

I think it might be best if you tell them how you feel about the situation, and if things still continue or even get worse, I would cut ties from them.

But this an outsider point of view, so I could just be improperly interrupting the information you have given.

I play almost strictly solo queue as doing swf feels like too much of an unfair advantage and like I'm cheating.

I like solo because it's how the game was intended to be played. No friends, no comms, just 4 strangers trying to survive. Too bad it's miserable to play right now lol

I can't imagine how annoying your friends have to be to make solo q a joyous experience

I would suggest learning to set your boundaries. Saying no to things you don't want or like is cool

I enjoy solo but there’s some games that make you question why you play at all. I find killer less stressful in general tbh assuming I’m just doing archives challenges and no explicitly trying to win

    Solo all the way.

Whenever i play with other people we end up getting tilted cuz we don't win but the thing is that's the 40% average escape rate... then people usually start asking the people in the swf what they could possibly be doing wrong and yeah it just becomes really tense.

So yeah i do prefer solo q for that reason but i don't really like solo q survivor that much either. I've had team mates who get me killed because i don't heal them or something. DCs and hook suicides are often too.

    I just prefer killer.

I do prefer Solo I've played with people in the past who just take DBD way to serious as Survivor and just start raging at killer players for how they play or how the random teammates are doing.

With Solo I can at least enjoy myself and relax on Suvrivor I might question a thing or 2 from either the killer or my teammates but, I'm not gonna shame them for doing it cause not everyone is as experienced as me or any other good or average player. Also if the killer decideds to camp and tunnel or do whatever else they need to do to try to win then by all means I don't control how they play if they wanna do that they can I won't judge you.

You're def not alone. Playing with skilled friends can be way to easy. You don't really want to reach that point of MMR where you only verse Nurses and Blights. That's why i keep playing solo, mainly for variety as my MMR just goes back and forth. The way i see it is that escapes should be rare and something special you can be proud of (and i don't mean hatch) as the killer NEEDS to be the powerrole, not the survs.

I played mostly solo since 2017. And the main problem are still survs DCing or killing themselves early on the hook.

Bots should fix that, because you can't fix rage quitting for any reasons.
