Do you have a feeling content creators have also ruined the game community?

I say also because I personally think one of the major reasons DBD is still relevant is because of its content creators, the biggest example we have is OTZ, who is such a great representative for the community and similar streamers like him are really doing a great job at presenting this game honestly in a much better light that it deserves, I actually admire people who can play this game for so many hours and on top of that create content for it and have motivation.

However, if you take a look at youtube what you normally see is also this:

looped baby killer for 5 gens and then he dcs

professional bully squad gets 785 head on stuns in one match

toxic swf fails and rages in end game chat

they brought me to ________ and still got wrecked

camping Bubba gets karma

try hard Nurse gets 0k

I faced 25k hours team and they play like this?

whiny survivor main rages on stream

and then all the escape and kill streaks which include 4 man comp squad swf against baby killers and nurse / blight with the best addons and perks.

I have a feeling that over the years this type of sensationalism has led to such a divide and the infamous us vs them mentality and the end result is everyone always saying how DBD has the most toxic community they have ever been a part of but since most of the content for the game is one side trashing the other and people cheering in the comments is anyone surprised?

Obviously, this leads to people who are not streamers/content creators having this same mentality and it just goes on and on

The reason I think the content impacts the game/community so much is because unlike most online games DBD is so unique and games feel a lot more personal than for example someone pumping you in the face with a shotgun in Fortnite and ending your game right there

What gets you clicks on Social media isnt the most healthy content, its much like Junkfood actually.

It tastes good, you get that, they deserved it taste in your mouth. But really if you take a look at how the game is played.

There are definitely some good and bad things that come from content creation. Some videos that have been posted on social media have given the developers some very good feedback on what’s broken/imbalanced.

I hate what DbD content creation has become, and I've pretty much completely disengaged from it. It's all the same over the top click-baity title with usually average gameplay on whatever side. And I hate how the lack of any meaningful ranking system means the community more or less decides what constitutes good play. It pains me to no end to see someone as skilled as Knightlight at 200 viewers when there are relative bots with over 2k viewers whose word is taken as the gospel.

I do think it plays a part.

Content creators just have a lot of influence on their viewers and their opinions, whether they realize it or not.

I wouldn't even say Otz is that much of a perfect representation of the community (or is he?). For all his wholesome vibes, the guy has a quite the double standards at times. Anything he can't handle with 0 perks and addons equipped is disgusting. Anytime he faces a tunneler as survivor, it's "such a shame to play [killer] and camp & tunnel" yet when he's playing killer, that's... exactly what he's doing ?

But yeah, too much of DbD content creation right now is focused on toxicity because unfortunately that's what makes the most views I guess. That and all the fearmongering around "toxic ttv is so toxic ! clic to know why !"... And all the coy "OMG this build makes me feel so bad for the other side lol, please don't use it <3"

I've kind of drifted away from watching DbD content creators at the moment, except for lore retelling.

Don’t bother arguing with them on twitter you’ll just get spammed with k pop gif replies because they think that’s an argument

I only watch Otzdarva, OhTofu and Stalky Boi anymore, occasionally I'll look is Samination has anything, but I don't watch religiously. Other content folks I watched in the past have just been off-putting, clickbaity or just annoying AF. The genral/mainstream media of DBD is pretty awful aside from fan art or the occasional parody video. People wanting clip bait plays or wanting to be in a montage, can be a little detrimental to the health of the game.

    Yah...

Most of what I see doesn't lend itself to a game you want to own up to playing in public. Twitch is especially creepy.

On youtube you can at least find players that talk about the mechanics of the games and how to do specific things.

That one dude though, that makes a living off of blowing up the worst drama exchanges. That guy...

So, yah, thats all negative publicity. As if the game doesn't give itself enough, it has its own racism/sexism/everyism announcers(I think there are two that specialize in this)

I still like some content creators (Mainly OTZ, Scott and Tofu) but the majority of them I find insufferable. Just highly edited compilations of looping new killers for 5 gens

Generally if a content creator never posts games they win and games they lose I don’t trust their content to be good

It may be a coincidence, but most of the main killer content creators on yt/twitch have a purely toxic and borderline bannable chat, always looking for salt for the sheer sake of showing their frustration towards other players. Of course the streamers are no different.

There are *some* content creators (even mid/big ones) that really overall spread negativeness, even if they somewhat seem wholesome or sugarcoat themselves

The fact that they have tons of views though shows that it works. That content is what the community wants

I completely forgot about this and it's actually the thing I hate the most - it's these ''expose'' channels who are like PLEASE DO NOT SEND HATE GUYS and then posts a clip of a streamer acting like the biggest bigot while camping/tunneling or flashlight clicking, yeah do not send hate sure, you want those people to ''better'' themselves and not have your army of followers harras them and create even more drama, honestly the WORST kind of DBD content creators by far, ######### them

Yeah no one is perfect but at least his content is based on the actual game - just look at the amount of tutorials, add ons, perks, killer power explanation videos he has and all of those videos are like hours long, honestly the advice you can give to someone when starting this game would be like go watch Otz content first to teach you stuff the game won't. I mean I get he gets paid for that but imagine having to play DBD for hours and then produce 5-hour long video for it, like I get overwhelmed after 3 bad matches in a row and I want to uninstall the game after that and yet there are people like him who actually want to help people get better at the game even though the game can be so mentally exhausting (this is what I think separates DBD from other online games - it just feels so bad to lose/have bad matches). And then compare to the rest of the DBD content where people literally act like the biggest losers by taunting people for not being good or losing to them in a party unbalanced game

I actually feel that content creators are way over-rated. I used to think they were Godlike when I had like 30 hours in the game, until I found out that I was able to do the same 360's, hook saves, flashlight blinds, locker stuns, deadhards, and moonwalking as they do. They are just people who play video games like the rest of us. I don't even feel content creators are better at dbd than many random survivors encounter. It is just the celebrity effect.

I honestly hate the "exposing toxic ttv" or "this streamer is racist" videos smaller creators make,, like is your own content that boring that you constantly need to rely on others bad behavior to make a video? Virtue signaling people get on my nerves and their viewers give me total npc vibes

There is one content creator who who provides a tremendous treasure trove of educational value and encyclopedic knowledge about different perks as well as information about killers and survivors. But other than that, most content creators are literally no different than the rest of us. They are just a cross section of the types of people in the community as a whole.

    Nah

Some of these "titles" that you mentioned are games that happen once every a couple of months

Like, why bother so much about it in the first place?

Most of the vids are not even their own content, some are but most aren't,, and while I do think any ism should be reported and punished accordingly, it's boring content, and dragging someone on yt for content like this screams virtue signaling and to be honest when i wanna watch a video about a game i wanna watch game play, not someone spending 15 mins analyzing one word and how it's terrible to say and blah blah and then close the video "please send no hate to x person"

Yes, to answer your initially question. I'll go one step further and say even your well received content creators like Otz can influence the community negatively especially when it comes to opinions about the state of the game. I don't blame Otz for it but too many people take his and his peers words as GOSPEL, regardless of the actual effects on the game of what they suggest. I've seen what happens when devs just look at the "top content creators" and say "oh they say x is broken? better fix it" only for it to unilaterally make the game worse. Overwatch cough

Otz is generally a really good guy and probably at the upper end of content creators for dbd in terms of being unbiased. He definitely has his double standards though. The big thing for me is every time he talks about blight he generally doesn't know what he is talking about, which really disappoints me as he is the biggest source of info in this games community.

I used to watch Tru3 but then I realized that he makes mistakes but doesn't admit that he does

OTZ... after watching some of those 3+ hour best build for every Killer videos I've learned that what he says sometimes makes sense but on the other hand doesn't think of all playstyles that the Killers have... The last one that I watched had a repeat of perks which I find boring

I do watch Choy every now and again... I also kinda wished that he would make another Regression video but with the other Gen regression perks

I just post all of my matches after every stream... But then again I've taken all of the videos off of Public for me not being able to make any more videos and not being able to do what I wanted to
