Is anyone else sad over the Background Player changes
I had a whole build ready. Desperate measures, resilience, BT, and background player. It countered so many killers who camp and force hook swaps.
Now this exhaustion perk has little use and goes to smash hit/head on F - D tier. Flashlight saves is the only function because why would you want to waste a SB and be exhausted to a carrying killer. As for sabo plays, breakout is still superior but you need to force a hit. AKA sprint burst is wasted again.
Lastly as for the killer tunneling. Here's the thing the killers already tunnel a good amount of the games because there's only 2 perks that counter it now and neither are as strong as the original.
Anybody else annoyed that streamers ruin the perk because this change is easily because of how loud they voiced there opinion on the perk that they prob would've of barely used because DH exists.

Should've made it so if you got a safe unhook, then it would proc
It'd have rewarded you for successfully taking aggro from a teammate after unhooking.

It did promote tunnelling though, which was why it was changed

Okay but guess what even if I unhooked a survivor with BT/Guardian and that survivor had DS / OTR do you think a killer who intends on tunneling is going to stop because of that. No, killers are going to play for kills regardless of what a survivor has / runs and if the killer is heading back to the hook after an unhook. I guarantee it's not so he can hit the healthy survivor over the injured one.
They made a new fun exhaustion perk useless and it blows.

It was a throwing perk that screwed your teammates.
Now it's just a throw perk.

Yeah, it went from a perk I wanted to use to one I have no interest in.

Nah. I do think the reworked version is overall a little underwhelming, but the PTB version was absolutely horrific design.

yeah it kinda trash now. eh not mad at the change tho

Yeah it was a niche perk that could have been alright but got changed cuz all the people that don't understand game design chirped loud enough and now we got another trash perk instead.
Awesome.

was gonna run anti tunnel safe unhook build with it myself.
kinderd: to better approach saving hook survivors
back ground player: zoom zoom away Afterwards
Guardian: So they get the 7% haste while leaving no scratch marks
borrow time: So now they also get 10% speed and endurance effects longer.
For some reason the community just assume all survivors would immediately toss their teammates under the bus so they can zoom zoom away

I suggest playing more solo because this happens all the time already. It isn't hard to predict what happens because we can already watch it happen.

Yes low level survivors will.....but we shouldn't balance around them

The no-brain change was to make the perk give the person you unhooked the 6 seconds sprint burst.
Why didn't they do this? It would become the most powerful anti-tunnel perk in the game!
1 -
Agree to disagree I guess. In my experience most good teams will never throw anyway under the bus

Not really this perk will make many flashlight saves that I couldn't get before

A lot of killers won't usually tunnel but will if the unhooker is either no where to be seen or in this instance double sprint bursting off into the distance. I play the one killer in this game who could actually chose to not tunnel in this situation before the changes and not lose significant pressure.

Because they would....I have been unhooked before and my teammate literally stood Infront of me so the Killer only could hit me so I could "protect" them. This has happened more times I could count.
Survivors will throw others under the bus just because....unhooking Infront of the Killer comes to mind

I believe BHVR should have tested this perk more before they decided to rework it.
I understand the idea of not wanting players to leave the injured teammate to die after the unhook but it was greatly exaggerated. I would have liked to pair this perk with BT or Guardian so both of us could run.
But now is another very situational survivor perk that'll only work if you dedicate your entire build and gameplay to get some value out of it.

I understood the knee jerk reaction and concern but the original perk design but Like some people, I saw the potential to use it in a way besides abandoning the unhook. Sucks we never got a chance to use it but our own community of survivors don’t trust each other with this perk so, understandable I guess lol.
If I had to guess if someone would use a perk for good or evil, I guess I would also just trash it.
Feel like BHVR just called out for a ‘trust fall’ and before we even tried the majority of the people were like, Don’t Do It! These people are all scumbags! While we point at each other~

Whereas before, if you didn't dedicate your entire build to it, it was a sandbagging perk.
"Useless if you don't build around it" is better than "actively detrimental to your teammates if you don't build around it"

There's already a perk that gives the person you unhook a speed boost. They're not gonna just make a another perk that does a similar thing.
1 -
You only needed borrowed time, or guardian with it while you were playing normally.
Much better than the new version where you need to go full sabo or flashlight save.
Honestly, i think there will be more survs throwing trying to get value out of the new one than the original.

Tbh, it wasn’t really healthy for the game, it encouraged tunneling (which blood rush also suffers from). But also, it wouldn’t even counter forced hook trades because you wouldn’t have enough time to run anyways, and killer’s that would actually proxy with good reason without tunneling and not standing in front of hook would just get absolutely cucked because the survivor can just run in strategy involved.
I get running perks helps with the tunneling part but if a perk needs other perks in order for it to not ruin the experience for others it is a disaster of perk design.
this new version seems it’s gonna be way more popular anyway, you can get random speed boosts to get other gens faster, or get into better spots for flashlight saves or sabos (even sabotaging isn’t really viable but still).

No, it's ridiculous that it existed in the first place. Shows that BHVR really doesn't play their own game and if they do they play it with each other because they clearly have no inkling as to how bad tunneling has become. GJ on incentivizing it even more.

Yes thats a terrible band aid change that makes no sense. Simple fix is make the sprint burst go to the unhooked and make the exhaustion effect go to the unhooker, i think this perk under those conditions should be a activate perk by the unhooker so they can choose to use it in a stratigic manner. Thats an easy and useful change.

That would have been even worse.

I don't understand how this perk ever made it to the PTB in the state it was in. It didn't need to be tested in the PTB to understand it's incredibly unhealthy pro-tunnelling effect. It didn't even need to be alpha tested in house. The person designing it should have immediately realised and scribbled out their notes before they got anywhere close to showing anyone else, and the fact that they didn't is incredibly troubling for the future of perk design for DBD, it's just sheer incompetence and these people have no place working on DBD.
The fact that some players are defending this is insane.
This would be like designing a perk that decreases killers attack cooldown while within 32m of a hook and persists for 30s after unhooking, and arguing that most killers, out of the goodness of their heart, will choose to target the unhooking survivor instead of the unhooked survivor.
How about killers get a perk that reveals the aura of an unhooked survivor for 30s, just so killers know to avoid that survivor...
1 -
Indeed, killers would choose to always go after the unhooked survivor, just in case the rescuer has this perk, because it would mean any effort chasing them would end up wasted.
1 -
nah it promoted tunnelling

Please stop giving the devs ideas, they would 100% make those killer perks.
Also, agree with everything here. With how much tunneling is complained about I don't understand how someone could just look at the description of the perk and not see how it would just encourage tunneling.
