The Skull Merchant is good Killer, thank you devs <3

After so many years since Hag came out, we finaly have another set up / control Killer. Since 90% of people on all social media talking negative about her, I will go different direction.

First, I thought she is weak and boring to play since I watched so many content creators talking bad about her and the little I played in the PTB didn't helped either. I wasn't even sure if I want to buy her with shards but in the end I did yesterday.

I have to say I think I wouldn't enjoy such playstyle, patroling and controling / camping area (gens). But with this killer I do. I don't like much Hag and they both have similar playstyle, but Skull Merchant is regular Killer and not slow and short (doesn't rely on the drones to chase someone, unlike Hag where you NEED the set up traps before hand). I think she is quite unique Killer, you observe and protect / hunt down your area. She is quite fun.

Honestly I've been liking her too, she ought to be a tad stronger but in terms of initial impressions it nice to have another set up killer. Demo had a bit of set up which was nice but it was by no means the focus of the kit so someone like this is a nice change of pace and unlike hag she can just do M1 which is nice. Thankfully I seem to not be one of these "top mmr hell" killers so I'm able to enjoy her without having a panic over her being too weak, personally been using corrupt, enduring, spirit fury and leverage to make here work as you don't really need infomation perks.

The buffs didn't fix her main problem, not having any power when a survivor is injured.

I've been loving her so far. She feels like hag but you can actually M1 chase people without throwing the match

She also has the area denial aspect i loved about clown

I played her for the archivments, which took me three matches and after this three matches I was so god dam borred of playing her, that I will never ever touch her again. She is the most weak and borring Killer, which was created in a long time.

    -rep for this Killer :D

Ngl I get more enjoyment playing twins than her. So satisfying getting a down with them.

I think she is ok, not my thing. And since i don't like Hag or trapper, i shouldn't be surprised. And honestly, compared to those two, she really is not that bad to fight, even if i know defending 3 gens is going to be her playstyle and will get annoying at some point.

I am glad some people seem to be enjoying her, seen also a lot of people enjoy her more now after the PTB.

I am not a fan and i don't think she is going to be very popular either. But the ghost hunt that she is getting is kinda annoying at this point. I also don't enjoy her, no need to be this dramatic and hunt people that enjoy her or ridicule them. Hating Skull Merchant doesn't make you cool or special.

Yes, I know Its probably not fun for most Survivors and she has longer games on avarage but I still like her. After so many years we finaly have a new area set up control Killer. Yes, you can argue that Knight can do this as well but his power is more oriented towards chasing the Survivors with his AI. Her power is pure control / info.

Nobody likes to play against a 3 gen killer and this is what she is. This is why knight was and probably still is heavily disliked.

I havent played her but i do have her, but i'm not interested of playing her since i hate camping an area and dragging a game that was supposed to end 20 minutes ago. Yesterday i noticed thats all she's good for. Her chase is horrible and most of the times she gave up and went back to her 3 gen...fun

The only reason I like her is because her power offers so much information. Besides doctor she’s the only other killer that doesn’t truly need any aura detection. You can run all kinds of fun meme builds.

Im going to be honest with you.

Probably you and other people enjoy SM wich is perfectly fine.

Point is, first thing i thought when saw this post was that an alter account of a dev created a post to try SM looks better to the public.

But glad you like it, for real.

I guess SM players are going to share lunch table at school with knight players. We can trade snacks if you want xD.

If her drones weren't so ridiculously restricted, maybe we'd see other playstyles. Unless you place drones near gens, they'll just go into search mode and you have to fight against your own power to keep the drones active, with a long cd every time you activate them.

I think drones placed outside of range of a generator should never go in search mode by themselves, and allow drones to be placed with a little overlap. Wouldn't affect her 3 gen, but would make the power far more fun to use.

Yeah been loving her so far and I really appreciate the little bit of polish she got for release to the little additions in sound design to them adjusting her mori to have more interesting camera angles. Plus she is far better than she was on PTB, decoupling the drone placement from the cooldown makes them feel soooo much better to play.

It's so nice to have a killer that is so good at keeping gens locked down that I can run a full chase build and still felt like I could keep gens from flying. Playing on Springwood didn't feel like a chore for once and I actually enjoyed playing on that map for the first time in forever. Red Forest is still tough but it is for every killer that doesn't go zoom so that's to be expected, I'm actually curious what my first game on cowshed is going to be like.

I agree. I played her a lot last night and really enjoyed my time.

Of course it is too early to tell, but at least so far to me she also seems stronger than many people seem to think. Her 3 genning might still be a problem but that is arguably more an issue of the game itself.

I really like both knight and clown... but I absolutely don't like this killer at all. Everything about her is just so boring. The lore is shallow and consists of a jumble of random themes and tropes that don't gel together at all, her animations are stiff and laughable (especially the walk animation, who greenlighted this?) and her power just is not fun or interesting to go against. As the killer, it feels like your power takes so long to do anything with it: with clown, you have agency on where you throw bottles and they take effect immediately and while knight's power is delayed a bit in its use, you still get to establish a patrol route for your guards or tell them to break something. Here, you wait for a while for survivors to get marked on their own terms and maybe you get a down out of it.

I hate playing with or against Hag, but even then, her power still is more involving for both parties.

Played a game not long ago against her but the killer was unsure of how to play her, and decided to just practice using the drones and see how she worked. She just let us do our thing while she played around. Was a bit bummed not to get an actual game, but she let me hack her drones and test how it all worked from a survivor perspective.

I've played with her some in bot games and like her all right. Tracking is something I consider a consistent weakness of mine as a Killer so a tracking based kit works well for me.

I don't follow the logic here. The bulk of her kit (claw traps, drone search and track) operates the same whether the Survivor is injured or not. The only thing changed by a Survivor being injured is being Locked on to and Exposed, since they're one-shottable either way. Even then, however, the Killer Instinct detection that tells you a survivor is Exposed still triggers so literally the only difference becomes whether or not you're one-shotting a healthy survivor or an injured one.

She's not an area denial killer, though. The drones do exactly nothing unless you are nearby. If you take a chase and someone becomes exposed across the map, how does this benefit you at all? The only real utility her power has is to force survivors to leave loops, which isn't a unique thing.

To say her power is weak is an incredible understatement.

She may as well not have a power.

  • Sonzaishinai
    Sonzaishinai Member Posts: 7,976

People just need to give it time and learn to play her. Too soon to say anything.

Can tell already that people who compare her to knight don't know what they are talking about. Putting your drones at loops to force survivors out is a very poor use of a drone.

3 genning seems obvious but i'm starting to think slugging is where her real power is. Being able to keep tabs on a slug while chasing another survivor and being notified when another survivor is coming to get them seems pretty good so far.

And unless the slug moves the lockon is pretty much guarantied on the resquer.

Still need to play more to try stuff but there is more to this killer then meets the eye i think.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is the next m1 killer the entire community thinks is garbage but still is going to end up in the top half of kill count stats later.

Wonder who the streamer is going to be who gets 200 wins in a row with her first

Either they stay and recover or they move and waste time not recovering.

Nothing disincentivizes a survivor going to pick a slug up more then to see they haven't recovered at all
