Guys, even if you don't like Skull Merchant chapter, buy it to support BHVR.
And I say this as someone who owns every single Chapter DLC, every survivor, every killer in the game.
At least BHVR is trying to make the game better. There are other games out there, with their devs that simply let their game die and they don't care, no updates, etc. BHVR actually does care about Dead By Daylight.
I'm not saying don't complain.
Complain your hearts out. But at least support them, so they have the money to fix stuff and make the game better

I "bought" it already with Shards
But it's on BHVR to convince people to buy their stuff. It's not on the consumer to blindly throw money at a company and hope they do good with it.
If BHVR can't convince people of that, it's on BHVR. You can't blame your customers when you release a bad product for not buying your bad product.

the point is BHVR has a track record of always trying to fix things. They care. So why starve them of money, the very funds they need to keep working? BHVR's track record of always trying to improve speaks for itself.

Who does Holly support 😍
0 -
If not buying this DLC is enough to sink the company, BHVR was in FAR more trouble than anything anyone here could do to fix it
Holly supports The Artist because Holly loves birbs and The Artist creates Birbs for her
Edit: Wait, that's Olive. Eh, close enough!

So I guess you didn't like the chapter because you bought it with Shards, a fake game currency that does nothing to support BHVR as a business.
If they really wanted to convince people to buy their stuff, they'd remove Iri shards from the game completely and rebalance Auric Cell prices accordingly.

Yes
If I had to pay real money to get this last chapter, I wouldn't have. But I have so many damn shards that it means literally nothing to me to spend them. I feel like I somehow have a higher opinion on The Skull Merchant than many others and I still wouldn't pay real money for her, or at least not full price.
12 -
or just go all out, and go Free to Play and expand the microtransaction store. All the new player influx, some of those players will fall in love with DBD and start buying the old chapters to catch up

I'm not gonna buy a ######### low effort poorly designed chapter.

I don't even want it for free

"I know its bad, but give them money because it could be worse" isn't the amazing take you think it is.
There's so many bad updates us as cosumers should be willing to turn a blind eye to. What has BHVR done to the game to secure our trust in it? We're no business' sugar daddy.
There's a myriad things wrong with the game, and their "We don't want to be reactionary" stance means we have to spend months before any concern gets addressed.
Timed cosmetics. Forcing the retreat of previously permanent cosmetics. Leaving certain survivors to rot with no cosmetics whatsoever while they release "Fen Ming's Mother's Jill Cosplay Alt Costume II - Green Variant 7". Camping and slugging being strategies where all players can do is just stand still and slowly die. Maps so poorly designed you can camp both gates from the center. The hatch and luck being dead mechanics for a long time now. Whatever in the world that stupid Hillbilly update is going to be. The ENTIRETY of Skull Merchant. And the list goes on.
You're free to determine where your bad update tolerance is, and to define what a bad update is to you, but BHVR isn't exactly known for their outstanding updates and you cannot convince others to pay them because "Well, I'm sure they'll do well next time!".
As we are right now, I'd be more willing to put 15 bucks on a certain popular MOBA rather than on this game, because they're not doing any good updates, but they're not doing bad updates either. Because they're doing pretty much nothing. So you can imagine how little I want to put money on this game.

Consoom product and get exicted for next product.

And this is kinda where BHVR have shot themselves in the foot with shards. There is no shard sink apart from literally their income streams.
Can't use Shards to buy specific Items/Addons whenever you want, can't use 'em to buy Perks outside of the Shrine which has a low refresh rate and limited sink power for veterans, can't use 'em to buy Charms that are effectively discontinued each time a rift is finished. Can only really use them to buy cosmetics and characters.
And so people have huge stashes of them. And when given the choice to buy something with money or with shards, why not use shards? Even if you really like the thing they released, well, why not use that free currency? (This is under the assumption that you'd never pay with real currency even if the released content was stuff you enjoyed, so long as you had shards to spare).

I have like....130,000 Shards
I could stop playing right now and buy originals for the rest of DBD's life
5 -
Vote with your wallet. Why do you want me to spend money to support a bad product, simply because something else 'may' be better? I say may, because it's subjective from person to person.
10 -
I'm not giving BHVR my money for content I do not want nor do I think is well made
Plus with their recent business practices, I want to avoid giving them as much money as possible (FOMO cosmetics for example)
12 -
No
7 -
They definitely have enough money. I will support them when they earn me.
7 -
Dude, they are a company delivering a service. If people don't like the service, they have the right to complain and not buy it.
Bhvr is not some small indie company and they can deliver better products like they have done. But if they continue to release two flop chapters in a row, make updates with sub par changes and continuously ignoring community feed back. When you make content that feels detached from your playerbase consistently for the last 4 months, they need to get called out
Money in the end is the only way to force them to do better
21 -
It shouldn't be my responsibility to hand over money when a dlc larger than normal fails to grab me.
5 -
I think they make a lot of their money off cosmetics, anyway. New chapters are released to keep the gameplay "fresh."
Either way, people shouldn't buy stuff they don't like just to support a company. That only encourages the company to continue doing that thing the customers don't like. If BHVR fixes the chapter and the customers like it, they should but it then, but not before.
Vocal complaints mean very little. You vote with your wallet.
5 -
They're a company not a charity, I think I need my money more than they do but thanks.
14 -
I would rather do literally anything else.
12 -
This content has been removed.
-
No. They added time-limited micro-transactions and this is where I drew the line. "I'm voting with my wallet" just happens to be a synonym of "Starve them of money".
3 -
Buying subpar products for the sake of support is a problem that only feeds itself.
Trying is one thing but it being followed with consistent flops is another
4 -
I liked the chapter and I still think that's a weird take.
Why would you support them by buying a chapter you don't like, when you can buy cosmetics for characters you do like instead?
That seems...rather self-evident?
6 -
Buy things that you like so they make more stuff that you like.
If you buy things you don't like they are going to keep making more stuff like that.
BHVR definitely aren't starved for money either, you see people with paid cosmetics everywhere.
12 -
I'm gonna buy it with shard too and this is the 1st shard purchase.
0 -
Have you seen the bugs in every chapter releases? I'm not paying for a character that I don't like at all.
5 -
Why would I pay for something I don't like?
If you think BHVR needs more support, how about you buy the chapter for me?
12 -
BHVR frequently makes awful decisions and is still pushing on with the severely anti-consumer FOMO skins. Why would I give them more money?
8 -
Honestly shards still support the company to an extent so… not entirely true.
to get shards you have to grind. By grinding you add to the server population. By adding to the server population you ensure there is 1 player out of 5 for a match. That means you’re directly affecting and influencing matchmaking - a key component to an online game.

I spent 500 cells from the rift pass on SM and I have never wanted a refund more in my life
I will support BHVR when they release stuff that isn't bland to look at and completely worthless from a gameplay standpoint
I said this once and I will say it again, You want to play a actually effective and fun version of Skull Merchant? Boot up Apex Legends and play Crypto, not only do you get a actually effective and fun drone-based character, but you also get a character with an actual personality beyond "I'm super smart and evil and apparently know how to build drones out of skulls despite it literally never being brought up in my backstory save for a single throwaway line"
3 -
I will buy what I like. I just so happened to buy merchant because I like her
I still haven’t bought Ghostface because I genuinely don’t care for him and his perks. I’m also missing like 4 survivors since I got all their perks in the shrine and don’t like their looks
I support BHVR through cosmetics though since I main Haddie i don’t give them much money

Money is the language of business. People should spend their money on whatever they like, but ultimately less sales for a product would be an indicator for that company that something is wrong. Normally, then, they will be more quick to act on those consumer-beneficial changes. However, this probably does not apply to DBD much when it currently does not have a competitor, and if some will not spend money on the chapter, they will probably spend money on other things within the game such as cosmetics and the rift.
1 -
I'm not going to spend actual money on something that's not worth it. Plus with the now constant FOMO cosmetics, the direction the game is going in, and constant bad decision making, I refuse to give them any more money.
1 -
Buying something you don't like to support a company is one of the worst things you could do. I love this game, and I always want it to succeed, but everything we buy as consumers is a vote for what a company will work on and sell next. If I don't like something, why would I buy it and ensure more votes for a similar product?

KITTY! 😻😻😻

This! When SM dropped, there was no saying how things would develop, but the stuff was called their worst chapter yet and for good reason. I think they got some heavy flak and threw in their elbow grease and it surprised a lot of people, me included, especially the mid-chapter. Well, now its too late and I wont be buying this chapter with money, having spend 21k shards on the characters, but maybe BHVR should be a bit more transparent and tone down the breakneck speed. 3 Chapters plus one health chapter per year would be much, much better for the game then what he got right now.
0 -
If you buy it, they won't fix it.
Simple as that.
3 -
And the game would be dead before daylight. They released many vhapters in a mediocre state , ghostface on launch twins still laughably, trickster, then knight in a ok but bad ok state, and now the merchant, aka the scam artist

You just described the concept of a whale; with the distinction that in DBD you can't spend the mortage of your house or a equivalent of new car for the acquisition of digital anime waifu.

No thanks
1 -
No. I buy games and their content when it is fun to play and the content provided for it interest me. I'm not going to buy anything in hopes that something good will come out of it. Impress me. Then I will give you my money.
3 -
Buy a chapter so they have money?? Sure, because BHVR is lacking any of that, right?
If you don't like something, don't buy it. That way they get the jist and will be more likely to fix it. Your ideology is anything but logical or correct. Like they say, if you wanna hurt them, do it where it hurts most, in this case, not buying the chapter.
2 -
lmao, if they knew what good killer design was SM would never release with like that.

Regarding the OG chapters I have two personal experiences to share:
1) when the Portrait of a Murder chapter dropped, I didn't knew how you could buy the new characters via shards and bought the chapter. Nothing wrong with that, but I was rather bummed to learn that the only exclusive contend was a red shirt re-color for Jona that I did wear maybe once and there wasn't anything in it for the Artist, which felt really lackluster to me as a killer main.
2) when the Roots of Dread chapter dropped, I had learned my lesson, and finding nothing of interest in it for Dredge, I bought both characters just with shards and called it a day. In hindsight I loved Dredge and would have happily shown my appreciation for it by forking over the money, but not after already having spend the shards.
So, at least the Tools of Torment chapter finally HAS some cosmetic for the killer, which is a stepup, but the chapter itself felt really lackluster, so I didnt bought it.
For the future, I would love to see at least some middle tier cosmetic for both sides and maybe throw in an exclusive charm to sweeten the deal. Just the new characters and a boring, unenthusiastic re-color of the basic outfit really doesn't cut it.

Buy cosmetics they LIKE v. buy a chapter they DONT like. Not really the same thing.
I’ll buy cosmetics all day, I’m not buying this chapter…not even with shards.
0 -
All the Feng cosmetics that they sold already have paid for everything that BHVR needs to fix its game.
2 -
In the last year they've opened a second BHVR office in Toronto and acquired Sock Monkey Studios in the UK. They're expanding because they aren't hurting for money. I'll stick with not buying the chapter.
