Stop calling DBD a “party game”
I’ve played party games. They get old fast. The amount of strategy in this game is very high, much more than other competitive games that are not dubbed party games. A skilled Killer will crush new Survivors almost every time. A group of skilled Survivors will crush a new Killer almost every time. This consistency is not seen in party games.
The competitive nature of this game makes it stressful and enjoyable. I enjoy the occasional meme or farming game, but I would not be playing if this was standard.

I disagree. The ammount of strategy is (most of the time) nonexistent.
All most people do in this game is chase down the most braindead easy tactic available. I don't know at which point "Most Effective Tactic Available" got confused for "Most Lazy Tactic Available" but here we are 🤷♂️

I'm calling it a party game whether you like it or not. It only became competitive to this level because you all as a community manifested it to be as such.

True but if it was a proper party game then newbies would stand a chance even against veterans.

Very few people who are new to any game suddenly just do well at the game. People who are new to Mario Party and don't know how the board rules or minigames work lose to people who do pretty much every time. Doesn't make it any less or more competitive. The applies to dbd.

I don't know. It might not be strictly a party game, but it's not a competitive game either, being asymetric.
I think a lot of people mean it less as "DbD is a party game" and more like "Dbd is at its most enjoyable as a party game"
Which might not be true for you but seems to be for others. Taking this game lightly instead of very seriously seems to make many people more chill about things than the opposite.

Yes, the killer will never be part of the "party" outside of kill your friends and both sides goal are hard counteracting each other. Most party games are a "race" to a similar goal.
And can we stop associating competitive with eSports at the same time.

I laughed when the Mario Party comparisons were more common a few years back. Ever seen a kid bruise their root of the thumb bloody for spinning that N64 analog stick?

And you don't need to be skilled Survivors to crush a new Killer.
Where the entire mini game was a quick time event. Don't get me started on brutal Bumper Ball matches.

Saying the game is a party game is just a cope. The game is a competitive game. Go to the dictionary. It is the definition. A competition does not have to be balanced/fair/whatever criteria others put on it. If two or more people are versing each other for a prize/win only one can achieve (be they a team or individual) is a competition.

Note that fairness, balance, etc isn't mentioned.
Also how does one play DBD at a party? LAN set up? Does this game even support that?

It is only competitive in the aspect of it being competition against other(s). The balance and mechanics are non-competitive. Any game with the disparity of capability from a tricked up add-on Blight to add-onless Myers can never be competitive in a reasonable way. It is a party game in the same vein as Mario Party, Halo, and Smash Brothers. The game isn't balanced for proper competition, but is a fun way to pass time with friends. Funnily enough the most balanced game of those was Halo, but MLG destroyed all semblance of balance and fun when they touched it.

I know you're not telling me that the strategy involved in dbd is on par with games like Overwatch and Fortnite, please.

Yeah, a lot of people are really invested in the idea the DBD is a skill fest, but it's not.
Even at its highest level (perhaps moreso, even), DBD is not 4D, galaxy brain chess.
And perhaps most importantly, the overwhelming majority of the player base (whom all players face at least sometimes because SBMM doesn't really SBMM), are hella casual.

You'd be surprised at some of the stuff that happens in DbDLeague and whatnot. Not really possible in regular matches because matchmaking is a consistent disaster and the ladder stops abruptly at a certain point, but the strategy is there at the highest levels.
