Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Why are Killers so inconsistent with addons? (Ex. Myers having op addons and Phead having nothing)

What is the design philosophy around Killer addons? Seriously, the number of inconsistencies Killers have with their add-ons is insane. On one hand, you have Killers like Blight who have amazing add-ons, some of which could even be considered overpowered. Then on the other hand you have Killers like Pyramid Head who have almost nothing to work with at all. It makes no sense to me why a Killer like Myers should have such disgustingly overpowered add-ons like tombstone piece while other Killers only really have 1 or maybe 2 good addon combos.

The only thing that makes sense on why top killers have add-ons that are so strong is that they are intended to be able to compete with 4 man swf with 4 bnp.

There is no balancing measure or set-in-stone method of balancing for addons, hell I believe which is the case for literally anything in the game.

I don't even think they can't make things balanced, but I'd rather think they aren't even trying to make this game balanced with actual logics and analyzation of all the data/games.

They do change numbers of perks/addons/killer power here and there for the sake of adjusting usage/kill/escape rate and such but that's pretty much the balancing of DbD, you can see how bad they are at it by just looking at maps.

At least Phead has range addons. What does Freddy have?

He has... a paint brush. It is an addon! He also has... a box. It does... things? Don't forget about his rope! Its a hearing aid, I think? He also has a drawing? Or was it a painting? Doesn't he have like pills or something... did he steal them from the legion? IDK.

Tl;dr: He has crap for addons lmao.

Edit: Woah BHVR, is the censor not working?

    This post was well done.

In all seriouslyness (is this a word?): He has a Paint Brush and some Teleport-Cooldown-Addons (Masterpiece and Sketch). Everything else is so bad. I love to compare his addons to the Addons of The Dredge, because both killers are very similar. Hell, Dredges Addons are so cool. He has one addon which give survivors Mangled, Hemmorhage and Blindness at the same time. NICE. Freddy doesnt even has Mangled in his kit.

His purple(!) Addon lets them start in the Dark and after all Gens are done, Nightfall begins again. Freddys Paintbrush (Iridecent) is a weaker version of it.

I could continue, but thats not a Freddy-Thread. I wonder if I can see an Addon-Pass on Freddy someday?

I have a theory about how addons are developed.

Im pretty sure the devs write a bunch of add on ideas on a piece of paper. Some good, some bad, some useless and put them all in a big box. Then once every 3 months they get a new intern to drink a full bottle of tequila. Then said intern pulls but of paper out of the box and attempts to read them aloud. The ones he can pronounce correctly get added into the game.

It seems to be how the kit is designed and how much effort is put into the killers add-ons themselves, because I believe that the kit comes first followed by the add-ons. You have things like Blight which can actually have a wide range of add-ons that flow correctly with his kit. But also as Trollinmon said, the only reason I can think of for c33 and alch ring to exist is to allow him to combat the best players running the best things on the others side. It's also why I think nurse didn't receive a full rework. But honestly if you are going to have any killer be balanced with those ideas in mind, it should be blight. Nurse simply doesn't belong in the game and as much as players want to believe she has decent counter play, she really doesn't when compared to blight.

But the fact that something like Nemesis was added to the game with those add-ons is quite baffling. Jill's sandwich plus iri star is probably one of his best add-ons sets along with maybe double zombie movement speed? I used to think zombie aggro range for info was really good after marvins blood was nerfed before I dropped the killer. But none of those add-ons really impact him too much or change his power in any way.

Compare serotonin injector to vigos or Jill's sandwich to c21, even adrenaline vial to marvins blood. It's just laughable. People complain about blights add-ons but his add-ons change how he plays quite a bit, especially adrenaline vial. C33 and alch ring are op but minus those, every other killers add-ons should strive to match Blights in how diverse and meaningful they are.

We don't talk about c7, Monocle or placebo though.

I've gotten more value out of Fake Pallets than I ever have over 1 meter of Pyramidhead range.

Imagine we could have both like Clown together with an Addon-Pass.

I have made this same suggestion. I don't feel like either power set is strong enough to justify the entire kit. Give him both and improve all the pallet add ons.
